Now you've done gone and confused me.  Did we not have a Boston Tea Party here a number, and I mean a number of years ago?  Now I know I lead a sheltered life , but when did the fabulous "English Coffee" come into being? :?  I thought it was TEA.

It just depends on whether the "H" is sounded, a lot of English people will drop the "H" and pronounce it "otel" then it becomes "an otel"
The same as some Americans pronounce Herb without the "H" it then becomes "an erb" rather than "A herb"

If you pronounce Hotel with a distinct "H" then it is "A Hotel"

If your camping it becomes a moot point

If the noun starts with a vowel then it gets "an" in front ,But if it starts with a consonant then it get "A" in front .

An eighteen hundred wing

A fifteen hundred wing .

I think :baffled:

Here is the response I recieved as well as my email message to the Country Inn.

It would appear that all will be in order for us. Although her response is somewhat short, I'll willing to accept it at face value and am confident that we'll be looked after as requested.

Hi Regina:

We had talked way back in January and you told me it would be possible to rope off an area so that all the motorcycles would park in the same area (for security reasons).
We're figuring on 30 motorcycles so please take a look at your parking lot and let me know what area we would be in.
The only reference we have is the picture of your hotel on the internet so just tell us left or right and front or rear.

The other thing you mentioned was that the police could do patrols through the Country Inn parking lot on a regular basis at night. Has this part been arranged?

Thanks Regina
Greg

Greg:

We are taking care of the parking lot situation don't worry. As far a the police is concerned I have spoken with them and they said they will also drive through the parking lot at night.

Regina

Well put, Tricky...are you a linguist, as well as a humorist? (humourist?) :dude:

The forum diplomat should know this stuff....we can agree then, that we are ALL wrong, right? I mean, erm, yes? :cooldevil:  I like "an erb" much better, and well, to 'ell with the otel discussion thingy (ask the Viking, our forum Cockney expert!).... :clapper::waving:

That last bit is weird, occasional yank; the British don't say "thingy"....I am correct, am I not? or urnt I right? in Amurcn?  Tis so...tis not.... :cooldevil:

:waving:Hey Ya'All,  Wait till you meet some of us Southern Folks, I am sure we can teach you the proper way to speak, at least we can be a bad influence on you.

If you have not checked on your reservations that you may have made some time ago, it would be wise to make a quick call and check on them.  I called yesterday and the lady tole me....Who is Kit? Nope you do not have a reservation, so I made another one.  I had an instinct that as it had been some time it would be best to check on that.  Kit
