Well, most of you have heard about my riding to Nassir this year. I was only 110 miles from home, and in the mountains of West Virginia, on some twisty "S" turns, when I met up with some gravel. Down I went, with the bike sliding up the hill and into the guard rail on the other side of the road. That fall took out the crash bars, the right mirror, one vortex jacket, a pair of dungrees, and scuffed up the right saddle bags and some skin. I've looked forward to this trip for a year and was really looking forward to going to "Road to the Sun" in Northwestern Montana. It was closed on my way out but opened when I was coming home. I decided to take that road, and the scenery is still unbelieable. Long story short, I got lost, got short on gas and went about 100 miles out of my way before getting to where I wanted to be. Running behind and still enjoying the trip, decided to continue riding after dark. I was up on the mountain top, about 20 or so miles from White Sulfur Springs, Mont. I was only going about 40-50 mph, when bamb, I was looking thru the windshield and saw a brown spot cover it all. It happend fast and furious, I remember saying to myself, as I went down and started sliding across the asphault, "ah s***, not this again". I lost my helmet, ruin my riding coat and pants, tore the bike up pretty good this time, and was thinking, where did that come from. It was 12:30 am. After about 20 or so min., I got the bike back up and gained my composer, some late night bar guys help me look for my helmet (which we still couldn't or didn't ever find) but we did locate the critter that caused all the excitment. It looked like a deer!!!! Long story, short........I'm fine, the riding gear did it's job, except for some minor road rash and sore ribs on the other side this time. The bike will need some repair, but it did run from Mont. to Va., although I felt like I was riding side saddle on it. And can we take a moment of silients, for the deer. See ya next year!

Well Jim, ..... I know it's not the kind of memories you were looking for on your ride out and back to N4, but heck man .... what a tale to tell!!! Glad you are still in one piece and although the bike is a bit bent up, it has served you well. Now ..... time to take it easy and heal the both of you. Hope you are bothrecovered enough to make the run to Front Royal, at theend of Sept. Dusty

Glad to hear that you were not banged up too badly, those pesky deers can be bad news. I hazard to guess that this trip to N4 is one that will never be forgotten.

Luddy, I really enjoyed talking with you again at N4, but not so happy to read about your escapades on the way home The bike can be fixed, and so happy to hear that you will be meeting us again at more NASSIR events.

My, My, My! You need to find another source of excitement. I really enjoyed talking to you at NASSIR 4 and was going to tell you about a friend of mine here in Oregon that had an encounter with a deer in Idaho. He hit the deer on his Victory Vision and he and the bike went airborn, did a 360 and the bike came down on the tires. At that point rider and bike parted company and slid to opposite sides of the road. All the riders in the group picked up the bike, used better part of a roll of duct tape to hold the tupperware in place and the 75 y.o. rider did the almost 300 miles back home. It was about 14 thousand to repair and replace the damaged parts but they did not total it out. This deer did more damage but was cut in two by the bike. He took his trip to Alaska after the repairs were done about the same time I did, but our paths never crossed while up there. He was on a much more relaxed schedule than I was, I had to return back to work. The only reason I am telling you this is that it may make you feel better, knowing this wasn't you it happened to. Wow Luddy, sure glad to hear you're ok. Could have been much worse. Was nice to see you at NASSIR. Walked away from 2 wrecks on the same trip... you should go buy a lottery ticket.

Wow Jim, I just found this thread (only got home from NASSIR4 on Sunday) and I am so glad you are OK. Not that it's much consolation but at least there's one less forest rat out there. I think you've got to find a better way to thin the herd though! Stay safe my friend!
