As DougW said it’s only about three hours from the Finger Lakes by highway.

However there are a few catches. Us Canajuns have the best view of the falls and we welcome you but YOUR government will have to see a passport before they let you back into the USA.

Also there are a lot more things to see and do in the area if you have the time. Forts, flower gardens, museums, wineries etc

If crossing into Canada is too much of fuss and you really want to get up close and personal to the falls you can take a ride on the Maid of the Mist boats and get right into the wet stuff. There are two boats. One runs from the USA and the other from the Canadian side. Well worth it from either side. It is not a rough white-knuckle ride just an awesome view.

Finally got my password situation resolved thanks to the help form Wexy and Steve.

During the Wellsboro meet and greet I stayed 2 nights at a small hotel in Coudersport Pa. right on #6. The motel web site is http://www.laurelwoodinn.com. It is a small 22 room motel with a bar-restaurant. I spoke to the owner (who is a retired police officer form LA area) the other night, He has plenty of room behind the hotel for camping. Yhere are also plenty of State parks in the area. There a 3 or 4 other nice hotels in town, several local diners. Actually one is like the diner in Wellboro- a prebuilt aluminum built old style diner. He thought the American Legion just down the road would be interested in catering a chicken barbque.

The roads in the area are fantastic and not crowded at all. I have been in that area 4 times this summer and will certainly return next spring.

I will probably be driving down in November. I could stop and check out some details.

Just tossing out some ideas.

Here is a link to accomadtion in Coudersport Pa.  Hope it works, John

Wexy,

Maybe this should be in the Misc or general forums.  I know there are members in the area but they may not be following the NASSIR II threads.  More exposure might gain more response.

I was thinking at least as a sticky in the main event threads for the same reason. More folks will see it. After a couple of months as things firm up a bit then place it all in a sub section.

I have been to watkins glenn many times for the races.  Downtown watkins glenn has restaurants, walmart,  a camp ground at foot of lake and a camp ground in a state park. Has very nice waterfalls, wine tours, its the center of the lakes you could see them all very easy in a couple of days. Corning glass has tours of making neat glass things. Corning is 1/2 hour ride away. When we camp for the races we use the lake to bath in very clean.  (not as clean as skaneateles lake)  where I grew up.Doug says 3-31/2 hours to niagra falls I am thinking thats to long I am thinking 2--21/2   PA border is real close. That area is all hills and very nice riding .  I would check watkins glenn web site they have races almost every weekend I believe.  The track may allow you to camp there and use the facilities there on the smaller race weekends maybe give you a campground that isnt open for certain races. they own many acres I am sure its a possibility.   That place has my vote

Just to clarify things here for you all.. The meet n greet will be held on a tue/wed Thurs ,that way we are not getting in the way of any BIG weekends with EVENTS going on in the area ,

The general area of the Upstate New york has been chosen ,So we are not tied into the finger lakes area ,But when Bob 96aspencade comes back with the info ,we can decide for sure ,

We dont REALLy need anybody on the ground to organise it ,There is very little to organise ,just a hotel and camping and a place to shoot the breeze at night .

So lets no complicate it like last year ,

Keep it simple and it will work .

I am Not going to stickey a thread anywhere until we have back as much info as possible on the different areas ,The area that is picked is non negotilable.

However the dates will be done by POLL and it looks like sometime between 3rd week June and the 3 week in Aug .

I know a lot of you will say the place is full of tourists ,but so is everywhere . So lets just hang in there for a while until we get info on the the different areas , Ciaran

When are we gonna start a head count for next year? The earlier we get it going the better chance of getting locked in for some group discounts at the campgrounds and hotels. The bigger the count, the easier to get the discounts.

I just sent an email  of inquiry for information to Watkins Glen International race track. Let's see what they have to say about camping and use of the track for the rally. Never hurts to ask I always say.

Hmm...use of their TRACK? NOW I'm getting excited! Are we gonna have Goldwing races with "guys who get fat in winter" (yep, that'd be me!), to see who can drag the most peg or exhaust?

Yee Haw! :cheeky1: I'm off to Wally World to buy myself one of those video cameras! This is gonna be GREAT! :dude: :waving:

Dusty Boots threw in a guestimate but considering the number of Saunderites in the North East and eastern Canada the turnout could be far higher.

On the other hand the economy is still shaky and the weather fickle so accurate planning won't be possible until after the meet.:cheeky1:

However it might not be a bad idea to get a general consensus as to who is likely to make it. In my case the time is right, the place is right and barring disaster I'll be there. Inside, sleeping in a bed with a roof over my head enjoying a hot shower in the morning.

Is it too early for people to express intent, accepting that final decisions won't be made for a while? Should we be looking for a certain sized hotel or facility?

There are some time limits on editing posts so I don't know how the list would be maintained except with an new post.

Ah, but you forget, The AXE can edit a post anytime he chooses, no matter how ancient it gets :cheeky1:

So, when the time is right, he will sticky a thread and then that thread will not be postable. He will keep it up to date with all of the pertinent info.

Just like he did this last time. If we leave the general info thread open to posts, it just makes a mess out of the "who", "what", and "where", and "when" :)

When I was helping maintain the list for the April M&G in Texas this past year all I did was create a spreadsheet, take a snapshot of it as a jpeg and upload it to Photobucket. Everytime I made changes to the spreadsheet i just updated the photo. So when you checked the thread to see the latest list the first post of the spreadsheet was always the updated version, no need to edit the post or have it edited by a Mod after 99 hrs.

Whatever the head count is ,you can divide it by half , I have learned from a lot of past experiences organising rallys etc that only half of the people who put their name down ever turn up ,, So I will be taking no prisioners this year when it comes to signing up .. YOU MUST BE AS NEAR TO 100% SURE YOU ARE GOING . or else do not sign up .. simple as that ,

The hotel we stayed in in Montrose had people booking it from last SEPT and only to cancel a week or 2 BEFORE the event . This is not going to happen this year , Ciaran
