Spring Break is BIG BUSINESS in Big Bend.  If you do not make reservations months in advance, you're toast!  Camping in the national park is even worse... if you want a group campground in the Chisos Basin, 12 to 14 month advance reservation and a deposit are pretty much required.

If anyone still wants to ride along here are a few nice places around Alipne;

The Holland Hotel

The Maverick Inn

La Loma Inn

Or all the chain places as listed in the C of C webpage:

Lodging in Alpine

2fast,

That is just too cool. Hadn't seen that version...

Looking forward to seeing you and Debbie soon in Alpine.  Or maybe sooner if you can meet us in Del Rio on the way out.

As for your "Everywhere in Texas" video... the VRCC (Valkyrie Riders Cruiser Club, Texas Chapter) has been working on a similar video for years.

Last year, on the spring break ride, we had a good ride.  I would not trade that for anything! I rode the Valk, but I showed the attendees all the "usual" roads and routes.  This year, I say we stretch a bit.  I say we twist that throttle and ride!  I want to plan at least one day where we dive northward to the Guadalupe Mountains and loop back... by whatever route we see fit. (I have options in mind.)

This will be a big, long-mileage, day.

BUT... if we start early and stay on schedule, I might be able to "check off" Van Horn as a photo-op on the VRCC Texas sticky post.

It'll be a hard day... but a complete and total hoot... and a chance to add a destination to the VRCC Texas video and to rack up some west Texas smiles.

Let's ride!

Hmmmmmm,

Thinking since I will be in Dallas that week of maybe heading down to meet some of you in Del Rio on the 10th and then head back to Dallas on the 11th.

:sadguy:

I will not be able to continue on to Alpine, due to having to catch a flight out of Dallas back to work on the 12th..

Something for me to think about.. It is sounding more and more like a plausible plan.

That is nothing but a hop skip and a jump on the wing, it is not too bad.  The more I look at the route I am thinking of making a stop in Salado Texas on the 8th and 9th, since I have an old Army buddy who I have not seen since 91' that lives there.

And then head out of there on the 10th on down to Del Rio.

This is still all up in the air, but It may all come together.

Okay... today I turned and official corner!  for the first time since last October I am no longer working on my bikes.  From this point further it about preparing for the sring break ride.  As is my nature... I like to do the hard stuff first.  Like detailing the bikes...

Go here: Primping and Polishing...

Alrighty... I now have the head unit and the interface installed for the J&M Audio CB I traded a helmet and a pair of riding boots for...  it's going on the Valkyrie.   Gonna have to make a mounting bracket for the PTT switch... and purchase and install an antenna.

The thing was actually made for a BMW but I was able to make sense of the wiring diagram and found a place to fit that danged "boxey" interface the rest of it seems to be fitting pretty nicely.

Randy, you listening?  Bring you SWR matter and help me tune this antenna and the one on the wing.  Any suggestions on what brand to buy?  I am looking at Firestick Firefly's.

Yes firestick or Francis will do a good job they make better but for a bike they will do well. I will be taking on the task of ordering us some dead steer for the BBQ. Will need a head count so everybody now is the time to sound off about who will be showing up to the Shin dig order will be in end of next week.

Vegans and those who feel cows are a sacred animal will be on there own and will need to bring there own fruits nuts and rabbit food.:ssshh:

I have a stainless whip designed for an ATV that came highly reviewed online.  It is adjustable and was affordable.  I have a copper grounding strap that came with the J&M Audio unit for grounding that bad boy to help with the grounding plane.

I eat red meat!  Mark me down for 2 (Greg eats red meat too.) Vegetarian is the Indian word for "bad hunter!"

Have a gallery started for the CB install on the Valkyrie.  The first image is here:

http://www.culleynet.com/zen/1998-valkyrie-tourer/odds-ends/DSC08778_X790W.jpg.php

Don't be judging me!  I know the dragon is filthy... but I have plans to remedy that soon.

The ant. you Have should work well T as long as we can get the SWR's low enough on it. Radio on a bike is going to be limited anyway to start with just by the nature of what your working with. Haven't even installed mine yet and I even have the whole sub wireing already in my bike. Just starting on getting ready to go doubt there will be much cleaning going on till I leave 4 miles of dirt road puts a nix on all the shiney stuff you do before we leave. Need to get my new speedo cable in, oil change, right hand controls complete new set checkout trl. By the way where is the two tone cream on that Valk jack?

LSHIDMTAMSFO!

Waiting for you to give me Foose style concept drawings and a price bid on adding two tone colour matched panels on that lift, dude!

FedEx says the antenna is delivered... I'll be picking it up at the remote PO box tomorrow.  Only 21 dollars... but I have to buy/fabricate the base.  Say it with me now... it's my CB antenna mantra... "ground that sucker, ground that sucker, ground that sucker!"  One of the reasons I picked this antenna is that every poster said it was easy to tune... with most of them getting 1.1 to 1.3 on the SWR.

(I have been reading and learning!)

Once the CB is finished I'll start gathering the tools and herding things toward the bikes.  I am a compulsive list maker.  Then I'll start getting serious about detailing the bikes.  I want to be packed and good to go by the time Greg gets here.  I'll need to spend some time with him before we leave.  I suspect he'll catch his wind that second day.

As for that four mile dirt road.  I find wiping the bike down at night... even after a dirt road ride, which I have done more than once, helps brighten the spirits of both me and my old girl.

I am stoked!
