Deland holds a special place for me. One of my great aunts lived in the downtown area for many years. Another lived right on the beach in New Symrna also, so it was quite an adventure when we visited the area every Winter! We used to stay at a little campground off 17 most of the time... I didn't get the chance to drive through Deland on my last trip during Biketober 2011, but maybe this trip?

:needahug:  Hope you get to enjoy a little of the fun my friend!

Moved here back in August of 1977 from Gadsden, Alabama. DeLAND will always hold memories for me, unfortunately this is where I lost my sister, father and mother. Hope you can understand when I say that the day I leave this town for good, I am not looking back fondly on my last years here.

Gadsden is a nice area as well, and not too far from where I live. Been there many times back in the 70's...  Hope you get your project finished!

Happy trails...  :)

So how nuts does it get around the area for Bike Week?

I need to run down to FL to visit mom and pick up a few things at her house. Not sure if I want to go during Bike Week or not.
I never been to the big events, not sure if I want to go or not? I need the printers soon, so thinking should I go soon or wait and go during Bike week?

Don't plan on getting anywhere fast, especially on bike.

This'll be the first time in eight years that I've gone, so, yeah, it'll be a learning experience for me even.

I'm going...first timer but it's on my bucket list and I don't want to delay death too much, I can't afford the increase in taxes..

The weather will suck, that's a given. The fronts are spaced usually four or five days apart so swing your arms and jump in when the roads dry after the plows roar through.

The temps go up as one rides south...figure an average increase in temperature of five degree's for every hundred miles.

I can hardy wait to thaw out some...=)

Usually gets more crowded in the evening, and it also depends on the weather. Naturally the weekends are the most crowded. As far as how nuts it gets, I'm sure that you already know what to stay away from... ;-)

I'm having my new front tire put on this morning!  ;)

Chromo, what town is your Mom in?   That is going to make a big difference in the traffic.   But you really should allow a few extra days and go see what all the hype is about.   You gotta see it at least once.

Update on trip plans... Looking like I'll have company on the ride down at least. 45/70fan told me that he would ride here from Michigan, and then we can do the Georgia leg down there together! I figure on leaving Tennessee on Wednesday the 14th. I plan on getting to the Daytona area on Thursday afternoon. If you are going to be at Daytona during the second weekend of bike week lets try to set up a meet 'n greet... Perhaps somewhere on the strip that's easy to find like a fast food place during lunchtime on Saturday the 17th? Anyone have a suggestion?

Planning on making the trip to Daytona this year also...weather is the big factor for me as to whether I ride all the way or trailer to a friends in N. Carolina and ride from there.. The weather in NY can be iffy in March and I don't want a snow storm hampering the return ride home.

Last year we met at the Honda tent at the Daytona Speedway.

The eating places at lunch time around there will be packed.   If some want to go and eat I would suggest someplace out of town if you have more than a few people that want to go.

Set it up and I'll try to be there.

As much as we all detest trailers, that may be the logical thing to do! If you don't then you're bound to have a weather delay on one, or maybe both legs this time of year. Unless you've got the time to come and go at your own leisure...?

I'm planning to leave on Wednesday in order to get there by Thursday evening, and that's even a gamble for doing 700 miles...  Hope you have a great ride either way!

The speedway may work out good if it's not too busy at the time we meet up? I started another thread to help get it organized...

Hope to see you there!

Longboat Key, FL on the other side of the state so I would not worry about bike week way over there.
I'm wondering if I want top go to Daytona or not though.

Should I go soon, or wait for bike week? That's what I need to decide.
