I'd love it Cloud9, but my yard is waiting, downed limbs, tall grass, fix lawn tractor, clean gutters, burn pile, etc., etc.
Real estate agent told us this house was "Maintenance Free" & "More than an acre was a good thing."
No choice but to be responsible...........at least for this weekend.

Dang it!!! I am going to have to be responsible too ! Now, I think I'm going to stomp off and have my fit!!!
I've got my calendar giving me "honey do" list that I can't complete in a month!
and I am going to miss meeting Mighty Max AGAIN!!!!!! I think Michael's and my moon's are not lined up right.
But please take pictures so that Tybme doesn't think I'm setting this up to rub it in!! so he and I can see what we missed!
One final thought............(Yes, Mrs. Flyone says that I can't handle more than three of them per day )
I am doing the planning for the Official KANWINGS ride next Saturday so keep looking on this thread for information and please post any ideas that you may have.
I am thinking of starting the ride here in Wichita, head toward KC, Topeka, and finally heading back south towards Wichita. If you have any ideas to add, Please call me or PM me here because all the unofficial KANWINGS have been really fun and I want to keep this going and be the best yet!!!

You might want to check out this site for some roads you could incorporate into the route.

We've done most of these rides, many on poker runs & the site is geared more for the 2 hour Harley rider. Kind of hard to paste 'em together.
Before planning a group ride, someone should go out & check it for construction, potholes, sand, detours, etc. Especially, if its only going to be a 6-8 hour day, like most day rides.
After touring 12k miles if KS roads, we've found few routes that differ from the the rest & marked-up a map of the good & interesting rides.
There aren't that many, but I've found some I can't get enough of & avoiding traffic is no small matter. We need some 'detailed' routes, that someone has actually travelled in the last 60 days. No surprises & weird detours.

I talked to Dennis (cloud9) this evening and he said he was going to do some scouting this weekend as I believe that Patch, Mighty Max, cloud9 and whoever else wants to go are riding this weekend. Maybe they can come back with some better ideas. I will be doing some research tomorrow and with everyone's feedback is certainly welcome.
I will be working on this through the weekend.
We have had several great rides over the past months and I'm just trying to see if we can top it and make this ride something to remember.
Just to make sure everyone (Including me ) The first official (of many) KANWINGS ride will be Saturday, May 10, 2008!!

I know this may be a long ride for some of you, but North East Kansas along the Missouri river is a nice ride. I will be riding K7 to White Cloud, Ks this Saturday.
For those of you with iron butts, North on K7 to White Cloud, Ks. Then to Rulo, Neb. Over the bridge into Missouri. South on 159 past Squaw Creek Wildlife Refuse and south on 59 thru St. Joseph, south on 59 to south 45 thru Weston and Parkville. Then over the bridge back into Kansas at the North edge of Kansas City. Along the river is fun.

That has to be one of the nicest rides in the area. Great Memorial Park in Atchinson on the river just west of the Earhart bridge. The lookout at Weston State Park [before Mem Day & after Labor Day] is a great stop & view.
We stop at the reservation's gas station by White Cloud for a break, sometimes. Also, an option for those who want/need less bike time, is I-229 to super truckstop, then to Weston Lookout & to Earhart bridge for a quick shot to Wichita area [at least a good option for some who rode a ways].
Even though I've done this ride many times, It's confusing [but easy]in NE corner of KS. Going a few mile into NE & then are 2 signs that say "Welcome to KS"...then is the bridge to MO at Rulo. Too funny...KS, NE, MO all touching & only a few miles to hit 3 states.
I'd like to go your route johnmac [I will for a fact, soon], but I'd be willing to go the shorter/faster return route, after the Scenic Byway #7 & Rulo, for those who had to ride a ways to get to the river, bluffs & trees.
We sometimes meet folks in Beaumont [Sat bikers buffet], 150 miles, but then they want to 'start ridin' after we get there. So, I understand that most don't want an 'endurance ride'.
Also, any group should have a lot of short breaks, [restroom, drink, stretch a cramp, fix a wedgy, bug splat, scratch somethin', etc.] since more folks = more reasons. They offer comfort & a chance to visit each other [especially those without CBs who missed all the talkin' & jokin'].
johnmac's route is not a one-time ride. Anyone who tours it, will be back before long. If the group doesn't do it...put it on your 'must-do' list...& don't forget your camera on this one.

Once the route is finalized, I will be posting a new thread called KANWINGS 1 with all the details. I'll let everyone know when it is completed.
Can't wait to see everyone this weekend!!!!

So what I'm hearing is that everyone wants to do John's suggestion??? (Cause that is what KANWINGS is all about!) We Kan Wing it!!!!
I'm good with it, could we can get all the "Southern" riders together and ride up and find a place to meet up with the "Northern" riders? Maybe the northern riders would like to travel south a little just to get more ride time in???
I guess I have to say..................... (being I started this whole thing for whatever that's worth ) that I would like to see this be a longer ride versus some of the shorter ones that we have taken. Don't get me wrong I don't care because I just love to ride but this is KANWINGS 1 and let's make it one to remember!!!!
What does everybody think????
Where do the Northern riders want to get together at?
I figure the Southern riders will want to get together in Wichita to head North.
Where does everyone want to come together at?
Does anybody know on this route a good place to eat would be?

Of coarse NE Kansas sounds good to me! Just remember, it will be a lot of miles for some of you. Just don't sound like yer braggin' when you tell your friends your "little ride" took you through 3 states!
If you like the idea, I can put together a route, with some stops. Try to figure the mileage, ect.

I am out for this weekend, I sliced the muscle in my left forearm. This muscle I use for the clutch. Hopefully it will be good enough for the 10th ride.

John's route is probably the best I've seen in Kansas, so far .
Wichita will want to come up the turnpike to exit 182 & follow easy signs to K-4 East to Atchison. Once on the pike, this can be done with no actual turns, just curves.
One little thing: On May 10, South will meet North at ___place_____ at ___time_____ a.m.
For the benefit of the Wichita folks, I'd suggest a stop in Meridan, KS at Maxx Mart at K4 & 62nd...[left side] log cabin gas station with rest rooms, snack food, coffee, misc. about 8 miles N of US-24. Large lot, but no meals. This would eliminate any confusion. There is also a 'rest area' 5 miles past Emporia on the pike, [coffee drop?]. Then its an hour to Meridan.
Us Northers can PM each other for various places to meet.
John has map & Flyone can coordinate time for S. to leave & meet N., and where.
Derby to Meridan is about 140 miles.

For clarification - Maxx Mart sells chicken strips, corn dogs, onion rings, potato wedges etc. They have a fryer on site and make it through out the day. There is a couple tables to sit at inside. The ONLY problem I would mention is they are the most expensive gas from Topeka to Atchison.
Be careful in the lot - it is large but riddled with deep pot holes and broken asphalt.
It is a good meeting place.
