There is a Turnpike Rest Area 5 miles North of Emporia. It has gas, a store & a McDonalds like Mattfield-Green & the one by Wichita.
However, it's the last stop until Meriden, which is about 64 miles.

Yes the rest stop I had in mind was just north of Emporia mile marker 132 I believe - KTA's map is really hard to read and the website doesn't say much - I had to find it on wiki

OK, I'm calling the ball here.................... After Popeye's comments about the area (which I don't know the area at all) Let's cancel the KANWINGS1 ride for tomorrow.
Being Sunday is Mother's Day and next Saturday I have a Wedding to work at, I would propose to our group Sunday, May 18, 2008. Same times, same route, and same meeting setups for the official KANWINGS1 ride. This will hopefully better weather and the benefit would be that freonrick hopefully be released from the doctor to ride, whondjr, bill's girl and hopefully other's that I pm'ed around the state can ride then as well. What do you guys and gals think about this???
I am still looking at the weather and would be willing to ride to Emporia and meet people who want to ride for breakfast. We could do the same place we meet last time say 9:30??
Please call me on my cell phone if you want to go on this unofficial KANWINGS1 ride as I will not be online tonight as I will be working at my Karoake show.
Ty, cloud9, Patch..............want to do breakfast???? CALL ME!!!

Boy the breakfast and visit was good but I'm glad Patch and I got back home before the wind storm started. We didn't get any rain (here in Andover) but that would have been a lot of fun trying to keep them wings on the road! (NOT!)

I would like to offer my house as the meeting place for the northern and southern riders before the actual trip. Instead of meeting in Meriden I thought we could all meet at my house (Valley Falls). Before any of you accuse me of just wanting to sleep in on Sunday, I thought I'd make up some burgers, brats and dogs. We can have lunch before we head out on the ride.
I live about 15 minutes north of Meriden so we could leave the meeting time the same (11:30) eat and take off on the ride from there.
We have a gas station in town so fuel won't be a problem.
What does everyone think?
Ty

Here is the updated information as last weekend.......well let's just say the weather wasn't the good for this ride!!
Here it is.........KANWINGS 1 (Inaugural and 1st Official Ride )
This is your official invitation to come and ride with us. If you can't make the southern meeting point or want to join up on the way, The Southern riders will be coming from Wichita area up the Kansas Turnpike (I-35 North) so join in along the way or you can meet us in Valley Falls, KS at 11:30 am Sunday, May 18th Your choice!!
The map please.....drum roll...........(Thank you johnmac!)
Attached Image (viewed 26 times):

We will have riders from the North and South meeting up for this run.
We will be meeting at Tybme's house for pulled pork and hamburgers (see additional map for directions) in Valley Falls, KS at 11:30 am.

The Southern Riders will meet at Presto Gas Station located at the intersection of Andover Road/Kellogg (US 54) in Andover, KS at 8:00 am. The Southern Riders will travel approx. 150 miles NE on the Kansas Turnpike to the Log Cabin Gas Station in Meriden to meet up with Popeye and then on to Tybme's humble abode for some great times and a wonderful ride.
I'm not big into rules and formality just having good, clean, safe fun but I want to have some guidelines with as many wings that said they are coming and a lot of us haven't rode together before so the goal is to be a fun, safe but uneventful ride..........
Once we are all together in Valley Falls, KS................
johnmac, I would like for you to lead this ride because this is really in your neck of the woods, you know the area, and planned the route. (CB equipped as well)
For safety reasons, we need to have all the bikes together but ride in a staggered pattern and give each other a bike length or two for the unexpected. We don't want some wings trading paint, but also not strung out for miles and miles. We also don't want Barney and his one bullet chasing us either so please try to maintain speed limits if at all possible. My opinion here is not to do this ride the fastest.......take time to enjoy the scenery and smell the roses!!
As George Bush has said.."Leave no child (bike) behind" therefore Popeye, I would like for you to bring up the rear of the pack. You also have knowledge of the area and you are also CB equipped for communication with johnmac.
The rest of us (especially me) will ride in the middle because we do not know the area and it would be like the blind leading the blind but I understand that this will be a bee-uti-full ride!!
I recommend everyone top off before the ride begins.....especially the Southern Riders but you are big boys and girls......you can handle your own fuel management!! I believe you've done that before!!! I understand from Ty that there is a perfect gas station in Valley Falls for fuel.
Flyone will be leading the Southern Riders from Andover to Meriden, then Popeye will lead to Tybme's.
OK, with all that said.....the organizer's hat just came off. I can't wait for this weekend.
This official message has been brought to you by Joe's Crab Shack...........
Remember, "Diamonds are forever, but women never forget crabs!"
Dont' forget to bring your cameras!! I will also post a new thread to announce the ride for anybody else who happens to miss the offical message on the Kansas ride thread with all of our smack talking!
See everyone Sunday!!!!
