I and Royce are willing to host a proposed Isle of Man Meet and Greet in 2009.

Before we put a lot and time and effort into the first stage of arrangements, it would interesting to see how much support the event would generate, the date is open for discussion, but would have to avoid critical events of various clubs both on and off the Island.  TT and the Manx Grand Prix are the Islands main events.

The main problem I can see for us is the ferry crossings ..There are not daily,I have checked several dates from Dublin to Isle of Man and return ,and while we can get there on a Fri ,we cannot get back to handy ,So it would be important for us to have dates ASAP ,so we could then check out the ferry ,Most of us can get off work for the Friday and return on the MOn or Tue ,but it would be very difficult for most of us to take anymore days than that ,the Welsh meet n greet falls on our Aug bank holiday weekend which is great ,but I was looking at the ferry times for the Isle of Man for the same weekend and we would not be able to get home until the following Thurs or Fri ,,Ciaran

The ferry crossings are always a problem for short trips from Dublin, I will have a look at the ferry sailing dates again, We are  open to suggestions for dates from every one, I will speak to the Steam packet as well to see if additional ferries will running at bank holidays etc

:D:leprechaun::leprechaun: This website will give you sailings for this year, it's pretty much the same each year. give you an idea of what goes and from where. There seem to be more from Belfast than Dublin:coollep::coollep: For those from UK sailingds go from Liverpool or Heysham

http://www.steam-packet.com

:waving::waving:I've just spoken to one of the local football clubs. They are prepared to let us use the area alongside their pitch for those who want to camp. They'll open the club house for showers toilets etc. it's only about a mile from Douglas town centre. As soon as we can get a suitable date. I'm not in GWOGB so don't know any dates of meetings etc.

http://www.gov.im will give you the website for accommadation. So you can look before you decide.:cooldj::cooldj:

talking about trikes and sidecars, i had a bit off an argument over phone to stena line,  or should i say a difference of opinion,  bikes with sidecars and trikes are the same price, yet a bike and small trailer is dearer and cover just about the about the same area, in theory i should be charged for a bike and sidecar if i take the trailer off and sit it at the side of the bike, therefore taking up the same space, they wasnt for having it, after a few if and buts i asked him if he was call dick turpin and did he wear a black mask,  he put the phone down,    so i'll think i'll do as geordiemuppet says, just book the bike and dont mention the trailer and worry about it when i get to the ferry terminal after the meet and greet in wales,   the wife and i are going to ireland for two weeks

tan y gaer- you ARE wicked! :cheeky1: :cheeky1: :cheeky1:  Any port in a storm, eh? :dude:I'd love to see Blackpool, and all the "twinkley lights".  Papajoe- shut those damned things off!  You're drowning out the competition! :clapper: :clapper:

Redneck- you may wish to have a discourse (that's a more polite term for a chin wag) with Silverfox and the Viking, and/or Shrek and Christine.  I believe at least one of the two couples were "dinged" (hit up? ripped-off? sorry- yank-speak perhaps?) either coming or going from Ireland, last year, with trailers.

Despite the ugly reality, Redneck, your logic makes perfect sense to me.  Too bad I'm not on the board of directors of Stena Line, eh? ;)

Colin (Shrek) and Christine are inveterate travellers....I hope to live so long as to make the crossings (and cover the miles) they have!  They would be a terrific resource, on ferry crossings with trailer.....:waving:  But....I...know....nothing...., silly yanks! :cooldevil:  Just trying to pull my (incredible) weight :weightlifter:and be helpful! :toast:

Dunno bout that! When I last travelled by bike to the IOM I used Sealink as they were the only drive on drive off ferry. Steam Packet, craned bikes on in three's. I was not avin any of that, no sir EE. Dunno if its changed now though.

I am open to coming over once I know the dates.

By the way I had a good court case last Thursday. I took Direct Line Insurance tocourt for not making payment for their cager that hit us last year and won. I wanted £10,000 and they offered £8,000 which I refused as i had documented evidence of cost of items. The Judge awarded us £13,000. What a result?

Had a practice run on the Steam cost a packet site.... What is the crack with trailers? It says I picked a vehicle that can't have a trailer booked with it and after the fiasco with Irish Ferries where I got stitched up last year I don't want that again!!!:X

Do they accept trailers on bikes and if so, do we have to phone up for a rate or are they definately free?

I could not do a booking into 2009 so I did a June date and it seems it is around £118 for a return crossing, is that about the going rate?
