(MOD'S...can you make this a sticky?)

I have been looking at the destination for SERRASJ 7.....St. Augustine, FL.

I would like to make date suggestions to be bounced off the rest of the group.

April 9-11, 2010 (Master's Golf Tourney weekend/Spring Break for us in Augusta)
April 23-25, 2010
May 7-9, 2010
May 21-23, 2010 (Weekend prior to Memorial Weekend)

I really like the idea of a 3 day weekend as it is gonna be a long one day ride to St. Augustine.  From Augusta, GA it is 6hrs via interstates and 8hrs backroads.  That doesn't leave much time to ride the area and "sightsee" the coast if it is a 2 day event.

I suggested the dates above as it is not too early in the spring where the temps are cold and not too late to where the temps are really hot in FL.

I also scoped out some hotels online and it seems the best rates (less than $100/night) are the ones located next to I-95.  Might even get better rates with a group booking.

Those on of us in the East/Southside group can have an alternate meetup spot (other than the Dublin, GA rest area)  to meet the West/Northside group.  The McD's in Jesup, GA is an ideal spot (older members have been there before:cool:) at the intersection of hwys 341 and 301.  Of course...this too can be debated.:cheeky1:

So let's look at our calendars....debate the dates/meetup site.....save up for the trip and be prepared for a good time!!:action:

I gotta have a pet friendly hotel.
There are a few around but have not settled on one yet.

Don't feel too bad about the distance...

I hope to be there myself, not sure if Amy will get back on anytime soon. She may follow me down in the car though, just have to wait and see!!

Since I am free from that daily grind of a job, I can cut loose most anytime, but Amy has school so a three day weekend would have to include a day where she won't be working that Monday.

Days Inn St Augustine West looks pretty good to me.
Low rates, Pet Friendly, Smoking and Non rooms and IHOP in the lobby.

I don't even need a group rate at $51 / nite.

that rate sounds good to me.  will probably be a two day event for me, unless i ride down late on friday.  i will be heading down the interstate from savannah to florida to be able to sight see most of the day on saturday.  as usual,  plans will probably change between now and then.

may 7-9 works for me

May 7-9 sounds good to me also. There is a real nice KOA there just a couple of blocks from the ocean. I've stayed there before. I'll start saving for it next month if I can. That will make a good shake down trip for the new camper.

We will probably start a day earlier than everyone in Georgia since the distance is more for us. Maybe drive down to Wayne's and spend the night there and ride down with him the next day. What say you Wayne? Sound like a plan?

Yea, I know it's early to set it in stone. Just trying to cover some options as early as possible. Still plenty of time to make adjustments.

Don't know how far it is to you from there but I might be able to swing over your way on the trip back.  Maybe say hi to a few board brothers along the way?

Will have to see what goes by then.

Count us in!!!

But the Copilot says... "No more MFING Interstate!!!" LMAO

A1A including the Ferry Ride in Fernandina is pretty cool for a $3 fare!

We stayed at a place called the Alhambra Inn in St. Augustine a few times. Two blocks from all the tourist traps on A1A and it was like $60/night in peak season. Its an old Motel with fresh paint and was clean. Have to check to see if its pet friendly though.

There is route from Jesup to Brunswick that I like to take that adds a few minutes to the 40 mile trip straight down 341 that will get us off of the 4 lane for a bit down some county roads through the woods... and will take us across the Sidney Lanier Bridge(Hwy US 17) in Brunswick down to Florida. Its a little better riding than straight down 301 IMHO.

We can figure it out when we get closer.  There's a lot of future between here and then.
