How much interest is there in planning a weekend get together for this summer?  This would be in Michigan but not restricted to Michigan Goldwing riders.

Geez, I hope there are still wingers in Michigan! My stepson just had to sell his 450 thousand dollar house for 125 grand. It is sad to see this happen to such a once powerhouse of a state! Wish we were going up there, we'd look you up! jimsjinx

When and where, John?    :waving:

I would be interested if I can manage the time away from looking after my parents and it doesn't conflict with my other planned rides/events(NASSIR III etc.).

Would this be out on/near 'The Thumb'??

Cheers, Ken

PS;    ......        ......        you might get more 'action' if this were posted in the "Events" section.

Im out of west branch Mi , id be interested if it is up this way . Not interested in leaving the state . The UP is a great place to ride . My wing hates the grates on the Mighty Mac but im hoping a new front tire cures that .

I'm open to suggestions as to where and when, I know that over the 4th of July weekend there are some awesome fireworks in Bay City but it really doesn't matter to me. Give me some suggestions and we'll work on a date and place. I tend to like the idea of something on the east side of the state, especially if I'm going to be making arrangements. There is a really nice park with all the conviences for camping just north of Pt. Sanilac which is about 25 miles north of Pt. Huron/Sarnia.

There is also a nice KOA near Oscoda, State park campground in Harrisville, the potential is limitless.

My 1500 with the Dunlop Elite 3s don't take notice of those 'cheese grater' bridge deckings, but my  old GL1000 was a nightmare on 'em. Might have something to do with the narrower, ribbed pattern, front tires. :baffled:

Have crossed the "Mighty Mac" several times on bikes. If you just let it squirm and don't fight it, you will have no trouble. I find it rather entertaining.

I have a V star with Dunlop tires and it rides the grates fine . I thought the wing was going down . I near crapped my pants and im no rookie on a bike .

Riding the East side , US 23 is a pain do to traffic , cut over to M 65 going N and up the E side and you have a very nice ride , good road and senic too .

Hale i see your from action , yep were only 35 miles apart or so . I own Harold's towing over here . Im easy to find .

don't have the elite 3 on my wing , just the dunee;s , i had a 66 hd electricgluide when i was rideing across the old zillwakie everyday ,and it was bad with them tire , never been across the mac with a bike , my neightbor said the last time he was across it on his hd dresser the wind was blowing hard that day and he said he had 1 heck of a ride across the mac that day , wind was trying to blow him off the bridge and they had the paved part shut down for repairs

June of 1972, I crossed the Mackinaw Bridge (southbound) on my way home from Michigan Tech in Houghton on my way home to the northern suburbs of Detroit, on get this...

Yamaha 175 Enduro!

Talk about a hoot of a ride! :action::action:

I would like to go back and do it on my wing, but I think that hit and run deer that knocked CJ and Red off their wing is still at large!

I wouldn't feel safe until I see it mounted in the lodge!!

I think they got him last fall he is headed for a lodge wall for sure,  lodge of knee deep BS.

From what I hear, a motorcycle bounced off him, semi hit him and bounced off, somebody said they shot him with a 50 BMG and it bounced off so I'm wondering if it took a 155mm to finally nail him. :cheeky1::action:

Well, I'm not technically IN Michigan (pun intended), but I'd be happy to show up, since it's only 4 miles from my front door. I've got famly in Standish and I could combine a bike trip and visit. Just let me know when. Might even be willing to meet up with any folks travelling to NASSIR, oh, somewhere around Toledo.

Just keep me in the loop.

You'd be welcome regardless of the imaginary line seperating us. If you have relatives in Standish, I hate to ask if they are in the state facility:whip::cheeky1: but I think the state shut it down for lack of $$.

I'm going to set Harrisville State Park as the meet point probably on Friday June 18. If everyone interested would email me I'll establish a folder and keep each person informed as things develop. My email is in the profile and put in subject line:GW Mi. meet and greet, otherwise I tend to delete and block. I personally intend to camp but there are two questionable motels and one decent one in the immediate area with Oscoda only 18 miles away with several nice motels. As we get closer I'll post information on making reservations at the state campground there is also a very nice KOA in Oscoda.

FWIT: there are a few charter boats available for salmon/lake trout/ and steel head fishing. The Big Mac (Mackinaw bridge) is a couple of hours away but it's a beautiful ride along the lake shore (US23) to Mackinaw City.

I know Duty Boots is planning on coming over so I'll suggest to him that a ride around the thumb from Pt. Huron to Bay City on M-25 where he can pick up US23 north. It can  be done on Friday as it will be a full day's ride along Lake Huron and the Saginaw Bay shoreline. Anyone else wanting to take several days can follow the same route to Harrisville on up to Mackinaw City then take the western shoreline trip back south, I must say this is one beautiful ride and I'd plan several days to make the entire trip.

Note date change, seems too many are tied up in July so lets shoot for June meet.

Unfortunately John, those dates won't work for me.  :sadguy:

As it stands right now, Winger77 and I plan on hooking up the weekend prior to NASSIR 3.

After NASSIR 3(July 16), CJ&Red, Winger 77 and I have a plan to head on over to ride the Cabot Trail in NS.. then head on up to ride the Gaspe Peninsula, before catching a ferry over to the North Shore of the St Lawrence River, exploring there and the Saguenay River/Fjord region, before heading back SW, through the rest of the Province and popping out in Ontario. Looks to be a 7400km ride.
