Gotta agree with broke on this. That's not to diminish the heroism of the officers though, as I'm sure he'd agree. Just like medal of honor recipients, they don't usually get them by doing something smart, just damned heroic. Let's hope the other drunk college students learned something here, lord knows the lesson was expensive enough.

The drunk was responsible for being out there! the officers are responsible for going there as well. As a lifeguard I was trained not to go unless backed up, floats ,rope ,spotters etc... Also was instructed in self defense to protect myself from becoming a victim of the victim. I used almost all my training guarding a Jolly Jeep Rally on a near by river. My EX and I baby sat drunks and their kids all day long. The assists needed for the area we were guarding was 23 and I almost lost one. We worked our butts off! (sadly mine grew back) I truly believe we are responsible for our own actions. If stupid does as stupid does do we join stupid? Please note I respect your opinion, I just view this different. Maybe not so different. Tragady is a part of life and I do feel for the loss of the officers. Just lost a very dear friend to cancer, (friday)and just heared my brother inlaw as well(Last night.). wish this wasn't so .. but it is what it is.
