Thanks to everybody for the posts and emails.

Had a good weekend with Daddy, albeit brief.  Daddy had been in bed all week since his chemotherapy treatment.  He sat in his recliner and watched William play.  As always, he was happy to see us.  He napped off and on while we were there.

The third chemo treatment is this Tuesday.  The doctors will discuss with momma and him feeding tube options.  With a stomach stint in already place, it may be complicated.

His brothers and parents are going to be visiting this week.  I suspect my wife and I will be up there this weekend.

I told Daddy about me posting here, and he rattled off several of your screen names.  Said he hoped you were all doing well.

Please keep praying for us, and I'll keep updating you.
Will

Thanks for the updates on your Dad.

Nancy and I will keep praying for him and the entire family.

Always know that he is part of a very large family here and when you need us, even if it is just to vent, we are here.

My prayers are with you all (scvmike and family) as you go through this.

One suggestion you might look at. Go to http://www.livestrong.org and look at the stories and inspiration that you find there. Also, they have support information and an excellent treatment and inspiration package called a Survivor Notebook that is free, except for shipping.

If you want, send me a PM with your address and I'll send several for scvmike and the family, as it helps family members as well as survivors understand cancer, treatment and gives inspiration for everyone.

Several members of my family have had cancer and I've had a couple of scares; and the LiveStrong notebook has helped me to deal with my issues (several 'pre-cancerous' moles and a suspicious thyroid goiter) as well as my mother's breast cancer and my sister's skin cancer.

Again, my prayers are with you, and if there is anything I can do to help you or your family, let me know. I live in Franklin, TN; just south of Nashville, so I'm fairly close.

Regards,

Tom Martin

Good news (its all relative!):

Daddy came through the surgery.  His heart and breathing was strong enough that he did not have to go on a ventilator (the doctors thought he would need to).  Yesterday, he was sitting in a chair talking to us (or at least he answers us when we ask him a question).

Daddy is in pain from the surgery.  We anticipate he'll be in ICU for a few more days and probably in the hospital a total of 10 days.  He'll start to eat when his bowels "wake up" from the surgery.  Right now he is on a feeding tube and nutritional IVs.

I'm back in Mississippi, not much that I could do up there.  The family is taking turns visiting, my mother is there whenever they will let her visit.

The bottom line is this surgery should allow Daddy to eat, which hopefully will enable him to resume chemotherapy, and chemo buys us time.

Thanks for the prayers, more information to come when I know something.  Up there I have limited internet access (haven't found a coffee shop close to the hospital) so I don't post until I get home.

Will

Thanks for the livestrong tip, will look at that today.

Amen to that!

You tell your Dad that he's got a wing that's getting lonely so no more of this lounging around!  He's got to be better tomorrow and out riding the next day!  :D

Mindi and I will keep him in our thoughts and hearts and look forward to hearing from him soon.

Cheers!

Aquilius
