A lot of us live by goals and milestones(not the millstones that are around some of our middles). So maybe what we need is each other to spur us on to some weight loss and better lifestyles. Look at Exavid, he got some immediate and good incentive, and now he has done it.
How can we set up something that would provide the proper incentive?? It is there right in front of our eyes but most people need the JOLT to act.
I am going to act---soon as I get home. What I need to do is eat smarter and LESS. I already do what should be plenty exercise.
This may be our chance people.

Don't forget a little bit of weightlifting, guys (and girls)!
I know I've bored you with this before, but some "iron" work will pay you great dividends on the bike! Trust me......
And Hawker and 2 Wings are right: we owe to ourselves, to our loved ones, and to our sport. Get fit and ride! That ain't no Harley you are on, designed to sit in front of a bar! You're a Winger! Act and look like one!

I am 6 ft even and weigh 195. I could stand to lose about 10 lbs. I heard that the best way besides exercise was to push away from the table still just a little hungry. And that is where all my extra is, The gut!...

Back when I worked on the farm I would stay around 150 and felt pretty good. Remember, I'm only 5'-0" tall.
Now after 4 years on the computer, I'm pushing 180 and can really feel it. When did it get so hard to put on a pair of socks??
Maybe we all can get really serious with this and end up getting alot of good out of it.
I've got a lot of longevity in both sides of my family so that's a benefit, but I sure would feel better at 155 or 160.

Thanks for the kickstart 2wings!

D-Rod is afraid to loose weight. A number of years ago I was 327 pounds and wearing a size 54 pants that were too tight on me. With advice and checkups from my doctor I lost 120 pounds in less than a year. Actually was able to wear size 32 pants. I even had my referral for a tummy tuck because of all the loose skin. With my weight loss my blood pressure came way down so the doctor had me stop taking the blood pressure pills. Sounds good so far but here is the problem.
The blood pressure pill was also an anti-anxiety pill. But that was a side effect so we never even thought about it. My body got used to having it because I took it for years. As I lost more than 1/3 of my body weight I was still taking the same pill. Well, with 1/3 of the body weight gone it is like a 50% increase in dosage. Then I stopped. Cold Turkey. I should have been weaned off them. Well, my metabolism was probably still in shock from the weight loss and then cold turkey on the anti-anxiety pill was quite an additional shock. At this time my wife hit menopause. And we had quite a bunch of intimate talks where a lot of hurtful information came out. It got so bad Patty took the kids and left me. That was for 16 weeks and 5 days. The very worst time of my life. A true living hell.
We did try seperate counseling but what put it all back together was not a marriage counselor. Most marriage counselors I have heard of DO NOT try to get the marriage back together. Some of my friends have had divorce suggusted from their first visit with a marriage counselor. What worked for us was Retrouvaille. A lifeline for troubled marriages. I hear they have an 85% success rate nationally and a 95% success rate locally. That is even if the couple is already seperated. We are now involved with helping other couples and if anyone is having trouble with their marriage I would really suggest giving Retrouvaille a try. They took Marriage Encounter couples and examined the couples that didn’t make it and based Retrouvaille on all they learned from there. With their help we are happily married now and if you check out my first post you will see that Patty actually bought us our Goldwing for our 24th Anniversary.
http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=25319&forum_id=10&highlight=24th+anniversary
April 9th will be our 25th Anniversary and we look forward to renewing our vows at that time.
Anyway, sorry for rambling but because all I went through I am really scared of loosing weight and that is my story and I am sticking to it!
I do wish all of you good luck and encouragement but go slow and be carefull. Me, I plan on being big and happy.

That's a good word of wisdom, but how much of the 327 lbs have you gained back?
120 lbs off your frame should have worked wonders for you joints especially your knees. Sorry, your doctor did not adjust your medication to compensate for the weight lost.
I am approaching my weight lost from the aspect of mind, body, and spirit. So it is not just the pounds that I am shedding but I will off load some mental junk and replenish the spiritual. I plan to do a lot of reading and riding alone. I think the mountains is a good place for me to reflect on life; with the tree beginning to bud and blossom it is a perfect metaphor for a "new beginning".
Well I got to get my exercise in; I am going to miss my five pieces of bacon, three eggs, a bowl of grits with buttered toast, and a diet coke. Can you believe it, a diet coke I have replaced all that with a vitamin shake and carrot juice. Lunch is rabbit food and herbal tea to start the detox. I am on my way

Well, last night was a test for me...as I wrote several posts back, I purchased an elliptical last week to help me get back in shape. I'm 240ish and ideal weight is 175ish...that's way too much! With a physical coming up in a few weeks, I wanted to be able to tell the Dr. I was on the road to recovery.
I did my first workout on Saturday and it was tough...couldn't even do the 20 minute preprogrammed workout...the next day I was able to complete the 20 minute one. Last night I put it off until 9pm...I had started looking at the trainer as an instrument of torture already!
I forced myself on it, slapped some headphones on with some of my favorite music and 20 minutes flew by! I started to actually enjoy it. I'm looking forward to tonight, getting back on the machine. I will keep the same routine for a week and then ratchet up the workout a notch or two, longer times and/or harder stepping.
We need to hold each other accountable on this...encourage one another even! It's a tough thing to do this...I've beat several habits; smoking (20 years clean except for an occasional cigar), too much drink (12 years clean) and "other" things but this weight loss thing is the hardest by far of all the things I've tried to clean out of my life...I guess it's because we need food and we don't know when to say "enough".
Gee, I'm starting to sound like I'm at a twelve step meeting again...Hi, my name is Tim and I eat too much and don't exercise nearly enough....

"One day at a time, brother! One day at a time!"
18 years for me! Had to quit drinking to quit smoking, and had to do both to keep Red! Good bargain, the best I ever made......
Naw, Timmus, not hard to understand.... we are addictive people, son, and always will be.... I drank too much, smoked too much, eat too much, ride too much, shoot too much, and play around on this board too much! There's nothing I don't do to excess!
"Can I have another cup of coffee, please..... What? Yeah, it's my 25th cup today...so what! That's not me shaking the coffee outa the cup! Uh-uh! Must be a minor earthquake goin' on, or something......"

The trick is to replace the bad addiction with a good one! Drinking is bad; riding is good! Smoking is bad; playing "run and tickle" with the wife around the house is good! Eating is bad; exercising till you drop is good! That's the ticket, replace bad with good.......
I don't know why the Good Lord made addictive people..... Lordly sense of humor, I guess.... watching us run around is probably more entertaining that the soaps!

last June I lost 25 pounds in one month.... all it took was 1: colon resection of 6 inches; 2: developing a small bowel obstruction which resulted in a second surgery and loss of 18 inches of small bowel; 3: two weeks in the hospital for the second surgey and an NG tube emtpying my stomach most of that time; and by the time I came home, not haven eaten at all for four weeks...
wouldn't recommed it

Do you hear the echo? That would be me.
I blame my job - Sittin' all day long, sometimes my legs ache from sitting. I try to get up and around, and right now I am in the process of making a lifestyle change - Dumping "projects". Sold my Cadillac, and my Corsica, the truck needs no work so it stays. (The bike stays, i don't care if i have to work on it...) Broken chainsaw - Gone!
Now, take half that time and put it into exercise... But first, I need rest... Relaxation... ZZZZzzzzzzzz...
Did you know that on Weight Watcher's you actually get "exercise points" for riding motorcycle? I was surprised, but it makes sense. It's hard to dispute that riding is a more physical thing than driving around in a car.
