i have recently been privy to some video's of motorcycle cops and in each story they fail to use common sense or show an awful lot of skill, come on i mean what intelligent cop would pull up his bike behind a stolen vehicle that is trying to ram it's way out of a boxed in situation?  :baffled:

All I see, are the county cops riding bikes. It's fun to see them manuever through traffic and watch the reaction of the cagers, when they realize it's a cop. I especially find it interesting to see them parked along the interstate, leaning against the bike with a radar gun. No one suspects that.

Never really saw any questionable actions, so I may be biased a bit.

I really don't know either way. I guess they do perform a service and can do things that one's in cars can't.

What happens when it rains? Do they have a car sitting waiting for them to use?

I've know a few good officers and a few bad ones. We have a few motor officers in the next town over. Most now ride BMW's.

Regardless of a car or motorcycle, you see them sit a traffic light and watch redlight runners go by. Here in the country, they have two that ride in pickups. They follow each other around like two dogs in heat. Park one of the trucks and save gas!

Anymore it's seems they are overwhelmed trying to catch the serious criminals and look only for the spectacular arrests.

I worry more about some nut driving while talking on the phone and putting on makeup than I do about some explosive carrying terrorist, but they don't make the daily news.

In this area most of the motorcycle cops live in Cabot & work for the Little Rock PD.  They ride the bikes to work for special events & if the weather turns bad ride the bikes back to Cabot to their houses, park them & get in the cruiser that is sitting there & drive back to Little Rock.  That is roughly 35 miles one way.  Oh Well, I guess LR has a large budget to afford to give them a bike, a cruiser & a gas card.   If I lived in LR "d be raising a large stink!

I support all law enforcement except the ones that bother me. "Leave me alone, I'm innocent I tell ya." "He started shooting first, what did you expect me to do officer".

:cheeky1:

OK, on serious note, I see little value in cycle cops. A lot safer for officers in patrol cars. All they do is expose themselves to more hazards ridding motorcycles. Just my opinion.

We used to see them a lot in London (UK) when I was younger. If there is a need to put one or two or more officers on a scene in London, the bike cops will get there much faster than cops in cars, simply too much traffic. They also do a more effective job of speed trapping than a car can in that situation.

Outside of that cars make more sense IMHO.

They are just there to do their job.  That is create revenue for the city, county, and state.  Last time I got pulled over the officer asked me why he pulled me over.  I told him I was speeding and running late and I was trying to keep it under 65mph.  This was 45 switching to 55.  Baffled at my honesty he questioned me about it.  I told him you got me and I know you did, there is no question about that.  Why should I insult your intellegents and waste my time with a lie when I'm getting a ticket anyway?  So, I suppose you should probly just go ahead write my ticket and I'll have to drive sensibly, because I didn't get farther ahead this way.  I was surprised that he came back with writen warning and a thankyou for honesty.  Most of the time they are not there to harass you they are there to create income.

I know alot of scouts from three of our local cities, ride with some of them on the weekends on their personal rides. I have learned alot from them after not riding for some years. A few of them haven't got brains that God gave a Knat, but still some pretty good guys.  I road motor scout at one of the PD's I worked for. We had strict pursit polices and areas that we could work.

I drove up through Oregon last year in heavy rain all the way. Just before getting to Portland I came to a speed trap on the freeway that had about eight motor cops zipping around in the rain nabbing the fast ones. I wondered how they wrote tickets, the rain was coming down and spray was flying from all the cars along with a pretty strong wind.

I feel for the enforcers of the law. Really.

It used to be when we were kids, we could do things and it was almost a joke. No one ever considered using violence against a law enforcement officer.

Now days times have changed and they have to worry everytime they pull someone over they will be killed.

Heck, back in the old days the revenuers would come in and smash the stills with axes and maybe take the moonshiner away.

Now days they have to come in with full body armour, stun grenades and fully automatic weapons.

Here in Pasco Co the motor cops  do have a squad car assigned for bad weather days or bike in shop days ( hey they ride HD  lol )  . Yea that was a cheap shot , sorry .

I really dont think bike officers are any less inteligent then the sqaud car counterparts. They all seem to get up in the morning ....put on the badge....put on the sunglasses....put on the 9MM ....and with all that attached suddenly the Attitude is complete.  Sure enough though there are some very considerate officers in cars or on bikes . We just dont see them as often .  I would not want to do there job . There is always someone who feels they been done wrong by Leo. Me included ,when I am on the side of the road getting 10 questions. Heck If I caught , give me the ticket and let me on my merry way .

I drive a ton dually on my job , I try to be invisible . If I  drive with the flow of traffic I find that seems to work .

Hi all, over inFlorida for a couple of weeks, staying at the Southern Dunes on highway 27,Haynes City.

Have seen 5 goldwings,4 1200s &1 1500,no bike cops yet.Got on the wrong lane a few times but was able to turn back or find another way to the same destination. Not bad for my first time driveing on the right.

Looking at the bikers I have seen so far it makes me feel sick to see no helmet or protection, yes it is dam hot out here, but tarmac beeing brushed out of your bleeding wounds hurts much more.My son can proove this. Not trying to to go against anyones human rites here, its your choice folks.

Anyway am enjoying my holiday, been very wellcome everywhere. You guys are real nice to get on with thanks from us all.:waving:

Enjoy your visit in Florida RicG, and watch out for lightning. Florida has the highest incidence of lightning strikes on people in the world. It's god's way of telling golfers they shouldn't be doing that.:cooldevil:

Only the bad cops get noticed,  just as only the bad bikers get noticed.  There are lots of good cops for every bad one, but they are humans just like you and I and can make mistakes.  I can't imagine putting up with the crap that they have to everyday, especially for the pay that they get.  The attitudes some of you have is precisely why some of the cops develop attitudes.  Try riding along with them sometime and see what they encounter on a daily basis before judging them.  I have a brother that is an officer and I have ridden with him several times, and I have also hung out with him and his officer friends for years.  You guys should be ashamed for doing the same thing to the cops that others do to us as bikers.  End of rant.

John

I kinda like motorcycle cops.  I meet them occasionally.  I met two of them just last weekend, we had a safety fair and a safety awareness ride through Columbia.  They came and put on riding skills demonstrations and then helped escort us through town.
They are a lot like I am......or was when I was young.  They are generally just out of the military, young, full of life, know it is dangerous, but really do not care.
They have more fun than we do, when they escort us through town, stopping traffic, ripping up the side of the pack to do it again......and yep sometimes one of them messes up and ...........like I said they know it is a little dangerous......

I think they do provide a service.  Just like we did last weekend......they help escort us , parades, community functions, special funerals, it is a whole public image type of thing.

What could be better for the day we will all face one day when we wake up that final day dead? I can think of no better way to have a send off than for the Motorcycle Police to escort me to my pine box and for the Patriot Guard to salute me, and for those Scottish Bag Pipes to send me to the next life.

I think that is the service they provide.    Kit
