Push fest just around the corner and I know so many (me to) that refuse to go to Myrtle beach anymore I was wondering what happened with the few that tried to bust away from the main stream pack and go to Charleston?
I have heard several different stories about Charleston hotels and motels turning bikers away. Not letting motorcycles in the parking structures and so on.
Anyone going to Charleston instead of Myrtle for bike week?

I live in Charleston, never heard of bikers turned away from hotels. City cops do like to write tickets for unnecessary revving, the loud pipe crowd gets those.
Anyone coming to town, lemme know!

The Charleston bike week was terminated. I used to have a link to a page with an explanation from the organizer. It didn't sound pretty whatever the real reasons were. The 'official' explanation was they couldn't get insurance for the main event at the fairgrounds.

I live in Lexington, South Carolina. My little girl goes to college at the College of Charleston so I am down there quite a bit. The whole city administration of the Town of Charleston is Biker Negative. Big Time.
To be fair this situation was brought upon those who ride by a select few, generally the HD crowd. I myself have wished there was a cop around several times when a group of 4 to 12 harleys with drag pipes would come by with pipes so loud they are setting off the car alarms.
Due to the loud pipes there is no more parking in any of the city parking garages, and the town is so crowded that is just about the only place you can park, there are a few open lots you can park in.....or use the city meters. As far as cost, they have that one figured out too, there is no advantage to parking in one of the lots or garages, they have the fees set up to match the meters.
A lot of the motels also have indoor parking garages.....same rules..........
I myself have never had a negative contact with an LEO, but I ride the Wing to Charleston and behave, even wave at the occasional LEO. It is pretty bad, some of the HD crowd still insist on running the streets with drag pipes, no helmets, etc, this is a college and tourist town....a lot of very intelligent people live and work there, and they just got sick of all the nonsense. I dont know why anyone would want to stay downtown anyway! Come 5 minutes away, motels in the suburbs dont discriminate, and drive in to see the sights. Drop me a line, I'll set you up with accommodations that are safe and within your budget.
Catch me at the right time, I'll take you one a 200 mile jaunt through the REAL Coastal Carolina, with islands, marshes, rivers, ocean, touristy stuff, historical sites, and the local knowledge of the food and watering holes{especially the cheap ones!}
Normally worth the value of a tank of fuel and a plate of grub, this can be had for FREE to SSGW forum members. Limited time offer, must take delivery from stock, no rainchecks, WAC.

ob1quixote,
When I finally get cleared to ride again, I will be dropping you a PM and see if your free time might match up with a planned trip to the east coast for my "sweet thing" and me.
Sounds like you know where to take us flat landers for a good time.

I will one day take you up on that offer!! I do like Charleston a lot. Always so busy with this or that to do.....so I would like to spend a day touring the place. Get out of town. I have been to the Aquarium, stuff like that, went for a boat ride out to some Fort out in the bay, been to the big flea market on King street, but nope never took the time to tour the other areas. A small group that I ride with did a perimeter tour of the state a couple weeks ago....I enjoyed that, and we stopped on 17 at a place and had alligator tail to eat, was pretty good!! So maybe one weekend in June, if it suits you, will suit me ,and yep I will buy lunch......your choice.....life is only lived once.....might as well enjoy it. Kit

Got the inside word on that fiasco! There was an excellent reason why insurance wasnt available. I hear that the year before, when Kid Rock came to play, there was a high chance of rain that evening. KR refused to put his equipment on stage to be ruined by rain.
Insurance was purchased to cover the equipment for that evening. When it didnt rain that evening, the premium payment check was stopped.
Small wonder they wouldnt write coverage the following year...

Only Two.......call it a meet and eat.. we are for sure going to eat . Seriously if anyone besides myself is interested it would be a great ride. The Carolina coast is quite nice, smell of the salt air, the marshes....maybe over the big new bridge, if you like the ocean and salt bays and rivers, boats and pretty girls, be a nice ride. If you want to come in early once a date is set......my house is open to you......feel at home, it is about a two hour ride down the big slab to Charleston ....less than that really, it is 112 miles to downtown......200 mile day ride........112 back........424 miles for the day, just a hop skip and jump. Okay lets try Saturday, June 21, 2008. The first day of summer. Plenty of time to see if that date fits into everyones schedule. Need a place to meet you at, and a time, how about 0800 that morning, pick a place to have breakfast, waffle house, huddle house......all those places have all the good things to eat that are not good for you
That would put us on the road at 0900. 200 miles at a leisurely pace, take about 6 hours including lunch, days are long.......plenty of time to head home before dark and deer varmits. Kit

Now I'm impressed!
How about International House of Pancakes?

Directions {assuming most will enter town from I-26}
I-26 take exit 212. At this exit, get all the way to the right lane, "To Savannah"
Run I-526 until it dead ends on Hwy 17 {Savannah Hwy}
Turn left on Savannah Hwy
Mosey on down about 2 miles, keeping your eyes open for a K-Mart on the right.
When you see the K-Mart, the IHOP is to the far right side of the stop light , just ahead, corner of Savannah Hwy and Markfield Dr, Chas SC 29407
Fuel on that corner as well, generally well priced and reliable.
Sorry, I am blissfully ignorant of GPS technology!
