Saturday, May 10, D-Rod and I joined some new friends in Canada to make some plans to travel south in September to Calhoun. We rode over the Peace Bridge and had a beautiful ride along the Niagara river with a great view of the Falls. It brought back wonderful memories of 25 years earlier, at the top of the Skylon Tower, on Christmas Eve when D-Rod got down on one knee with the Falls behind him and proposed to me.
We went to the home of Goldwings 4 Ever and his lovely wife. Goldwings 4 Ever and Goldwinger were in the driveway doing a little bike maintenance when we pulled up. We immediately felt welcomed and at home. We sat and talked and joked along with them and their friends Paul and Laurie. We were soon joined by Tricky, Smuff & wgj46 and Nobbie with his wife. A BBQ and delicious desserts filled our stomachs as we discussed options for traveling - I learned what slabbing is. Different ideas were tossed around and I'm sure will continue until we can all decide on the best way for all of us to get to Georgia. Although nothing was definitely decided, I think everyone agreed that if there is any type of intercom between us, D-Rod will NOT be allowed a microphone. Those jokes all the way from Hamburg to Calhoun will certainly make the trip a really, really long one.
This was the first time we actually met anyone from the forum and it's true that the people here are terrific. We had a wonderful time with our new family. My only regret is in not having a camera with me to share pictures of our afternoon together.
Goldwings 4 Ever & Mrs. - Thank you for having us in you home.
Goldwinger - Thank you for the highway floorboards.

I too look forward to seeing all of our forum friends down at Calhoun this summer.
On the original note, this weekend has been a fantastic occasion for me and my family. Mardonna and I hooked up the travel trailer to my pickup and we made a leisurely trip from Mesa, AZ to Oceanside, CA. Once the RV trailer had been safely sconced up on its' parking pad, we called our son PJ over in San Marcos which is "only" 15 minutes away assuming 'no traffic' on the CA78 freeway
We had a lovely, but late, evening meal and planned the weekend. Saturday we took in tours of San Diego and one of the Aqua-Terra guided tours. That one was terrific, we lucked out and got the best guide of the bunch. I took a movie shot of the tour and that turned out great. Even the seals out on the wharfs were funny comics in all their great actions and fin slapping.
We are staying through next Friday at "Paradise By The Sea", a wonderful RV resort here in Oceanside. I heartily recommend it for all visitors to the area.
John and Mardonna

It was indeed nice to see some new faces and some familiar ones at the BBQ. Patty,,you know, if you had pushed D-rod over the falls that day instead of saying yes, you would be getting out of jail about now and could still have made it to Calhoun. And the ride would have been much quieter.

That's true, but I did enjoy myself over the last 25 years and I got 4 terrific kids out of the deal.
See you in September.

Yes a good afternoon with bikers of like mind, all that was short was an ice cream run we should get plenty of them in September.

Button Lady,
The weather sure was on our side on Saturday. Tricky, Snuff and myself stopped at the private airfield located in south Niagara Falls to check out the private collection of the Russell Group's Spitfire, Hurricane, ME109, and Harvard (T6). Then Tricky and his GPS got us to Gold Wing 4 Ever's place and later in the direction of home.
I'm so glad to have met you and D-Rod along with the southern Ontario members of this great site. From our jokes and laugh's at the BBQ hosted by Gold Wing 4 Ever and wife, this trip to Calhoun is going to be a treat and I'm sure there are going to be a lot more jokes and laughs before this trip is over. Tricky and I have been discussing possible routes to Calhoun. I have order some info and maps from a few states off the internet and will pick-up some maps and info from the CAA/AAA this week. When this info arrives Tricky and I wil meet, put together some thoughts and forward to the group.
"I learned what slabbing is." I missed this discussion and what this expression means

Slabbing is riding the highway as opposed to back roads.

It's probably a good thing for D-Rod that Button Lady didn't learn what "stabbing" was
It was definitely an enjoyable meeting. It was nice to see a few new faces and a few old ones (not meaning age....maybe). I'll be letting Wayne and Rick make the route since we'll be trailering our bikes down. If we do go off the "slab", my wife or I may ride part of the way.

And here's me thinking that the only time a wing was on a trailer was to go for new tires or something like that.

Great Picture, My My, what a Motley Crew:
"Motley Crew" From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A motley crew is a cliché for a roughly-organized assembly of characters. Typical examples of motley crews are pirates, Western posses, rag-tag mercenary bands or freedom fighters. They may align with, be (as a group), or include either the protagonist or the antagonist of the story.
