John and Mardonna - It saddens me to hear that news.

My mom was diagnosed as terminal (metastasized breast cancer from 25 years prior and kidney failure caused by the cancer) in November 2001 and told she had 12 to 24 months.  I moved home in January 2002 to care for her and get her to her dialysis treatments 3 times a week for the time that was left.  She passed away in April 2002 - peacefully, in her favorite chair, coddled in her favorite quilt where I found her when I woke up that morning.  I had tucked her in to bed 7 hours earlier.

I was glad I had not waited to come home for some months in anticipation of her 12 to 24 months.  Instead, I had the opportunity to care for the person who had cared so much for me through thick and thin.

No intention of hijacking this thread John - just trying to say folks should spend the time with those they love while they can.  If I had waited - I would have missed some very precious times with her.

My heart and prayers go out to you, your family, and your mom.  Love them all to pieces - always John and Mardonna.

Hi John, Dylan and myself will say a prayer for your Mom and family in a few minutes before he heads for bed. 90 is a good age, but we still don't want to let go of our parents no matter how old they are.

AZ, you have been given a wonderful gift. The opportunity to spend more time with your mom. I hope and pray that you take advantage of it. As like some of the others have written, I lost my Mother November 24, 2007 of liver disease caused by medication taken for 30 plus years of heart disease. (Lost my father in 1977) She fought for 3 years with it and I apologize to her (her picture when I talk to her EVERY day) for not spending every single minute I could have with her (she was bed ridden). Myself, my sister and my fiance provided the 24/7 care she needed. So many times she would tell me to go ahead and go ride or do something else and still 6 months later I feel so guilty that I didn't take more time to just sit with her and talk to her. As for HOSPICE, if its ever needed I guess for some its ok. We did not have a good experience with it. The night she was finally going to pass over we called the hospice nurse and were told that she didn't have enough gas to make more than one trip to the house (about 15 miles) and wanted to know if it would be ok to wait for a while before she came. Well as you can understand in that situation thats not what we wanted to hear. So with the whole family by her bedside, her favorite music playing in the background and tears all around. Saturday November 24, 2007 at 6:36 pm mom took her last breath and passed away.

Love you Mom.

God rest her soul.

Hey John, as you know my mom lives right down the road from you. She is 88 and slowing down also, but still doing pretty good all things considering. We are getting ready to fly her out here in three weeks for a couple of weeks visit again. Sure glad to hear that the first medical tests on your mom were wrong. Hold them close as long as you can and when it's time smile, hug and kiss and let them go, then savor all the good memories. Its all we can do because everything here is temporary. :)

Again, thanks to all of you who write to help me along in this.

Today, I got a call from a doctor's office I don't know saying that they had a report that mom had been in the hospital this week and they needed to follow up on that.  Could I bring her in for a check up?

Well, I'm not sure what it is about, but I am going to pick her up and take her to see what the deal is.  Gives us a bit more of that together time.

Cyote61, when you get in my area, do please give me a call and let's try to meet for a minute or two.  Okay?

Thanks all;
John

Treasure all the time you can. When my mom got sick I talked to her on the phone all the time but was planning to see her on thanksgiving. it was hard to get away from work and I thought she would last. She had been fighting cancer for several months and I thought 1 more would be there for me. The week before thanksgiving my brother called and told me I needed to come right away. I told my boss I had to go and jumped in my truck stopping only long enough to pick up my wife 6 hours from Pittsburgh to Queens New York. by the time I got there she could not even talk anymore she had turned in just 24 hours she saw me and smiled it broke my heart if only I had gone the week before. At least she knew I had come. I learned that day what was really important in my life. My prayers are with you and your family

Eric
