Cannot ride on the back comfortable that is. I have had the bike for a couple of months now, and she has not wanted to ride because the bike is to big.
I finally persuaded her to ( do it ) .
It was very difficult for her to climb on board, and when she did, she could not spread her legs open very wide becuase of the width of the stock seat..
Not sure if her legs were even on the passenger floorboards that well.
She is 5'3, not sure about her inseam. She did say she enjoyed our 3 mile trip around the neighborhood, but would not want a long trip.
Do any of your wives or girlfriends have a problem with sitting on the passenger end of the seat because of the width of the seat?
This is a genuine concern as it may affect her riding safely.
OK, guys you can go take a cold shower or whatever.
SORRY, THIS NEEDS MOVED TO GENERAL TOPIC, NOT TECH.
Thanks in advance.

Hmmmm...?? I don't quite know how to answer. I guess the best thing to say is my wife is 5'3, kinda chubby and she has no problem with the seat....

Maybe looser fitting jeans would help?

My wife is vertically challenged (5'2") and rides on the back very well. I can bet your wifes problem is she can't reach the floorboards correctly which make her feel that she can't spread her legs far enough.
The solution:
Cut to shape of the footboard a 2x6 and a 1x6. Attach the 2x6 to the footboards with wire ties (zip ties) and then screw the 1x6 on top of the 2x6. Buy her boots with thick soles. Works perfect. That is with the original seat. Bought an aftermarket (wider) seat and had to replace the 1x6 with a 2x6. Still works perfect.
I am also in the process of developing a bracket to replace the wood that will raise the footboards to the height needed using the original footboards.
See if that helps.
Also, my wife gets on first and sits in the drivers seat and then scoots back to the passenger seat. She said her legs were too short to get them up high enough to mount the bike the "traditional" way.

My wife is 5'2" she loves to ride our '85 LTD. Like Snorebaby said, my wife gets on first but she goes straight to the passenger seat. I suggest you let her sit on the bike (stationary on side stand). Take a look at her ability to reach the footboards and determine what it will take to get her feet comfortably positioned, without stretching her comfort zone. Once she is comfortable, she will relax and everyone will be HAPPY!

Snorebaby & Jim, thanks.
I did not really study the situation, but it did appear the seat was pretty wide for her.
I do think the floorboards may not be high enough for her to flat foot the boards.
She was wearing flip flops, which may have been part of the reason she could not get on good.
I have a backrest which would prevent her from starting from the front and sliding rearward. I thnk the Wing leader backrest postioned all the way back as well as the seat was part of the problem.
She is not really the type of person who would enjoy riding anyway so perhaps it is a non issue.
Thanks for the advice.

| My wife is 5'1 and her feet only hit the floor boards when she wears shoe's with heels. She can put her legs behind her head so opening her legs to sprattle behind me isnt an issue. I plan to buy adjustable floor boards so her feet can touch in her sandles or shoes.

| getting adjustable foot boards will make the passenger a bit more comfy for the ride. the only one that i thought would have a rough go at it was my 24 y.o. daughter as she is all of 4'10" and maybe 80 pounds wet. gee i got tools at work that are heavier than mouse(jessi's nickname).but she does rest both feet on the boards very well.

| My wife has trouble riding with stiff jeans on. She likes to wear these stretchy jeans when we ride. You might check them out. They look like normal jeans but stretch like crazy. Also good shoes or boots will help alot.

allanzdot; If your wife is 5'3' and complains about comfort....take her out for some little 100 mile warmups, so she can get used to riding.
Exercize &/or stretching helps many folks ride comfortably, too.
My wife was the same way years ago, but 5'11"....now she likes to go on 5 day jaunts, different states, etc.
Much like riding a horse, you just don't hop on the first time & expect to ride all day....comfortably.

| My wife (5'3") will attest that having feet firmaly on the pegs/boards makes all the difference. A seat will feel 'wide' if you feet don't reach...

| I had a 86 wing that my wife, all 5 foot 4 of her, loved to ride on, said she felt safe back there. I had a back rest also, sort of had her wedged in there. I now have a 2007 Wing and believe it or not she liked the 1200 better. She has a tough time getting on and off the 1800 and is not wedged in like the 1200. Of course we are a little older and heavier.

Nancy must only be 5'-1" at the most and is also on the heavy side. Her only problem in getting on and off. After she is on the bike, she loves it.
Getting on or off, I have to watch her to keep her from scuffin the tank with her shoes.
I think the more your wife rides the better if will get for her.

I just make sure the bike is in gear.......and on the sidestand. I help Sandy onto the bike first.....hook up her helmet cord.......all that stuff.......then get on myself and away we go.
When we stop she just waits till I take off my helmet and gloves and get off.....then I help her off.
Besides just being the best way.......it is more fun......together.. and I do like to spoil her.

My wife is 4' 11" her mom says that, if she were born on a farm they would say that she was small because she had been picked too soon.
On both of my Goldwings my wife sits flat footed with sneakers on. We go for 100- 200 mile rides every couple of days, she loves it.
Looking for a longer ride but have animals that need to be put away every night, other wise the night prediters will eat em up.
