(I hope this is okay in the section; if not, the moderators can move it.... I just want a lot of people to see it......)
They're bringing home a war hero tomorrow. A 24 year-old Lieutenant, U.S. Army, who wore the blue cord of the infantry, and who died facing the enemy..... on Nov 10, 1944.
Lt. Ernest Edward Martin lay unknown in the Huertgen forest mud for nearly sixty four years, his rifle by his side, still facing the enemy...... sixty four years. His parents and immediate family have all expired. U.S. government officials discovered and identified his remains in 2006 with DNA evidence, and repatriated him here, at Ellensburg, Washington.
Being from Lewistown, Montana, the lieutenant never lived here, but his only living relatives do, a nephew and a niece, and his parents are buried here. He also graduated from the University of Washington, a Husky, so it's fitting that he comes home here; we are so honored to have him. The hearse will pull in to town tomorrow at 1500 hours, accompanied by a U.S. Army Honor Guard. Our local VFW Honor Guard, of which I am a member, will also be present. He will be buried with full military honors Saturday.
I will put an extra-special shine on my low quarters tonight, and make sure my cap, my shirt, my jacket, and my ribbons are all in order. And I will stand as straight and tall as I can for the young lieutenant....... Welcome home, Lt; you are relieved, sir, and well done, well done.

If I were within a decent days drive I would be right there with you to honor him. One of the most moving moments you might ever see is a military funeral done with full honors. I will never forget the ones I have been privledged to be at.

A fat Cousin Jack (gotta lay off them morning buscuits and gravy!) far left, his back to ya, and two WWII veterans to his right salute the return of the lieutenant.......
the old soldier with the cane, Glenn Mitchell, fought in the same battle that killed the lieutenant, different units, but the same battle.... Comrade Mitchell was a combat medic.
The guy next to him is retired W/O Tom Russell, who fought on Iwo Jima for nine days until he was sledged down by three Japanese rifle bullets. Pretty good for WWII vets, hey, upright and ventilating, anyway.......@
