Not trying to hi-jack the thread but when I go swimming I am like a shark. If I quit swimming I sink like a rock. So if I went scuba diving would I need ballons to help out?

:)  You wear a buoyancy compensator (BC) anyway.  It is a vest that the tank mounts too, and has an inflatable bladder.  It connects to your air supply/regulator with a hose.  The idea is to stay neutrally buoyant when under water, so you can easily go up or down and so your are not being forced either way.  You are adjusting your buoyancy while you are under water to stay neutral.   Some of the gear you wear is also positively buoyant, such as the wetsuit/drysuit, so you are compensating for that as well as your own buoyancy with the weights.

I bought my first Goldwing back in 1978 and I googled for the Steve Sauders site, but unfortunately he was only about 3 years old back then:cheeky1::cheeky1:, so I had to wait until about 4 years ago when I had just changed from an 1100 to a 1500 and I wanted some information on it. I did a google search (again:)) and this time, Steve's site was up and running and I got a warm welcome and a quick response to my questions.

Since then I have popped in here once in a while and made the odd post but mostly I am quite quiet.:):)

I consider myself very lucky to have met so many of the members, lots in the UK, many in Ireland, including the Big Man himself and his family and of course we had our most memorable Meet & Greet experience in the US last year, which will be hard to surpass.

It is great to be part of a friendly International forum that is second to none. I do not visit any other Goldwing sites, since none could compare to the flavour of this one and in fact I am only a member of one other web based forum, the RBLR which I became involved in as a result of being introduced to it by Geordiemuppet.

Believe it or not, about the only other thing I come on the computer for is to peruse ebay, email friends from on here and elsewhere and to sometimes look at links provided by members.

The past years have been great and I look forward to many more and making even more internet virtual and real time friends.

:waving::waving:

I was introduced to this site when I attended the Scottish motorcycle show and had been speaking to papajoe and another on a goldwing stand and they suggested I try over here for any questions I had about Goldwings. They said it was a friendly place and the guys on here would help out if they could.

I must admit I've never been on a site quite like it. The help and advice is second to none. I suppose trying to fix things blindly is pointless when you have so many guys here with a wealth of experience under their belts, the advice given has saved many hours of searching manuals or just breaking something because I didn't know better.

Well done guys and keep it up.

Gordie

I found it either referenced on the GL1800 or the New Riders Ralley Forum.

I joined within days of buying my one and only wing.  Found the forum through internet searches, and without a doubt, have learned and enjoyed it.  It's benefited me as a rider and in my learning doin' my own wrenching.

This being my first winter as a reborn rider......it's been tough.  I understand a bit more about those who fight addictions.  I really DO.  I check this forum several times, each and every day.....it has to replace my riding time.  You know when you have a love in your life.....something that's all yours.....you just want to live it constantly.  I've made my winter much more bearable by learning more about my wing, starting my own maintenance and following through, making improvements and fixing small problems.  Starting now to work on restoring some badly faded paint on certain parts, which adjoin nice, shiny parts.....apparently replacements from the PO.  It's fun, and I'm dyin' to put all the plastic back on and get on it!

Thank you to all those who've helped me in my threads, and those who've written as I've lurked, learning silently in the background.  You are all great, and like a family, while all don't get along just EVERY day, it all comes together in the long run.

Come on, Spring!!

LOL.......well thanks, but I'd hate to sic Wexy on anybody!  He looks pretty tough to me!

No, was talking about minor skirmishes here and there, only a couple in six months I've seen, and I know all will be right with the world in no time.  Great people here, and occasionally a difference of opinion, or way of stating one's opinion.

If this were a 1%'ers site, anything but fun-lovin', comfort-diggin' Goldwingers, heck, I imagine we'd have all-out war now and then......but then, maybe Wexy keeps all that in check!

If so, he makes a great Sergeant-At-Arms!  :arguing::arguing:

Like my friend Redwing, I was a member on the short-lived forum that Steve ran before he bought this one. I think that one ran from late 03 up to the time the hosters went belly-up and Steve hastily moved here in summer 04 and sent us all heads-up emails. This one is a daily dose of good cheer for many of the old timers like me.

Bought my first 'wing in 2005, and while replacing the brake pads I ingeniusly screwed up the calipers. I searched the web for help and found this site that not only had a manual, but had several threads on how to un-screw myself.

Fixed the bike, came back here a lot to lurk. I finally bit the bullet and joined in 2008. I still lurk a lot, but occasionally something prompts me to post. Hoping to make it to NASSAR 2 this year, but September is a bad time for accountants in the military to be gone from work!

While reserching my first Goldwing I came accross this site and have been fairly addicted ever since, even during my time without a bike !. There's tonnes of advice , lively banter and from time to time you get to meet some of the members. I am a member of a couple of other bike sites but find I spend most of my time here.

It was like this:
I saw a 1976 GL 1000 LTD in mint shape for sale, didn't know much about GW's so I punched in Gold Wing on my 'puter and Lo and Behold, need info on goldwing appeared, hit the link and here I am.
Bought the bike for a grand and fell in love with it! I now also own an '81 Aspencade in A-1 condition which I also bought for a grand.
Now it's Gold Wings Forever for me!

Hi there midwing.

We meet again........different forum:).........same topic;)

I found this forum 2yrs ago when my new vessel was fitted with OLEX 3D seabed mapping system, driven by two separate PCs......a "must have" for Dept. Marine surveys/Wrecks/Reefs/Contours etc.

During my computer course, I spent many a happy lunch hour browsing this and the GWOCI forums, remembering the "good ol' days" when all the GoldWing Clubs & Associations were just starting.

After 25yrs "at sea" and being "out of the saddle"....IT'S NICE TO BE BACK "TOPSIDE" semi-retired, with my old sea legs thrown over a motorcycle that I know comes with REAL friendship at no extra cost.

                                    -----------------------------------------------------

If you want a trip out on my other "Wing", visit :-  http://www.seahunter.ie

with room for 12 pillion passengers. :D

                                    ..................................................................

Regards ........Skipper

Skipper,

Took a look at your website. Very nice boat, and a good job on that video you have there too.

Hats off to Steve!!

This is also the way I found this site but found several others. But this is the only site that view daily.  Lee

Best website for me!!!:D

DITTO!

I've noticed everyone posted that they are addicted to this site just like I am.  I've tried squinting one eye to see if there is subliminal messages flashing across the screen:cheeky1:

There aren't many Cincinnatians on this site but see them on the roads.  I'm going to have to print some Steve Saunders business cards and stick them on Wings around here.  I'm getting tired of riding with the noisy bunch.  Prefer to ride alone or with the wifey.

THANKS for all the info I've learned here.

Hogans Wing- I love your Avitar!  When I get off my bike after a long ride, I too love to lie down on the ground (or find a good tree?) and scratch my back?! :cheeky1:

I talked my friend Marco (Axlewik, on this site), into considering a GL1000 or GL1100 as an inexpensive "project" bike, which would give him huge value and be a long-distance tourer (as well as last forever).  HE found this site, in the fall of 2004.

I notice that my good mate, Silverfox, didn't join until April 2005....I joined up in September 2005.  I expressed a desire to learn more about European/UK biking, with a strong desire to ride there....and by God, Pete sent me a PM (which he has no doubt regretted, ever since! lol)

I/we bought a "motorbike" in the UK, in January 2006, and he rode it "home" without any gloves, as I recall!  In March of that year, I visited briefly, and we colllectively terrorized the locals down in Brighton (he had "fish and chips", and I learned what "mushy peas"are; I'm quite addicted now, so long as "salt vinegar" is available, as a dressing!), and discerned the fairly long list of bits that were in need of "fixing"!  He did (or arranged it, through his "best in Britain" mechanic mate, and we (He and Helen the Viking, on their 1500, and I on the Pan) toured the continent, in the summer of 2006....

Thus are Golden Friendships formed, on THIS site, at least! :cheeky1: :waving:

I found this site just a couple of weeks ago via word of mouth, it is the most interesting, funny and informative Ive seen, and over the years Ive seen some bo***ks written YAWN! if you get my drift? I drifted in and out of the Goldwing world because of that! However most of those boring old farts have returned to mother Earth, I like especially the world wide appeal. I think I will be around this site till the day comes when I too return to mother Earth. Long live Steve Saunders x
