In recognition of your service to our country, all Veterans and active duty military personnel are invited to eat free at Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar Restaurants this Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009.

As you may recall, Applebee's launched a pilot program last year on Veterans Day offering free entrees to military service personnel and Veterans. Because the response was so overwhelmingly positive, Applebee's is extending the invitation throughout the country this year.

We would appreciate your help in spreading the word.  Please help us share details across your various communication channels.

*                 All U.S. Veterans and active duty military with proof of current or former military service will eat free at all Applebee's nationwide on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009.

*                 Proof of service includes: U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and Earnings Statement, Veterans Organization Card, photograph in uniform or wearing uniform.

I think it's great that they are doing this.   I won't be going, because around here there are a million military people.  (OK, I exaggerate, but we have 6 different military bases within 20 miles)  Last year the line was out the door and around the building pretty much all day.

But I think it's fantastic that they do it.   It really does show appreciation.

Applebees is also hosting free meals on this day. Need military ID, Veteran organization ID, or photo of yourself in uniform.

I seen this a couple times last year.

But I always pass on things like this.  Don't know why.

I was a Marine and was in Vietnam and other places But it always embarrasses me to go for something like this.  I would slide in and pay for my own just to support the place but I always hate to take advantage of things like this.

But I do have a Vietnam Veteran and a Marines sticker on My truck and wear my sergeants stripe on one sleeve of my denim jacket so I am proud I was there.

I also have a handicap sticker but always park somewhere else to leave the spot for a real handicapped person as I can still walk.

It always irks the wife and she remarks "Then why do you have it?".

I always reply, "I might need it someday"

Just weirdness on my part I guess.

Ditto on not taking advantage of these offers. Same way I would never accept welfare. I just prefer paying my own way.

Mohawk, I also have a lifetime handicap placard for the dash.
Haven't used it since the early '90s, but it's there just in case.....

That's the way I feel.   It's there just in case.

I used it a few times when I had to be on Crutches and got Lazy.

But never at a hospital or doctors office where I would expect REAL Handicaped people to show up.

But there have been times I wish I would get the handicapped Plates for the wing so I could park at least within sight of the door.   Grin

We ate at Golden Corral in North Carolina 2 nights ago on our way down to Myrtle Beach. I saw the sign out front for the appreciation dinner for the great men and women in the Military. The sign stated.." No ID required"

Not only is it the variety of good food and the prices that make me come back time and time when in the States, it is this attitude of repect and recognigtion given the " freedom fighters " Cudo's to Golden Corral.

NOW GC PLEASE COME TO ONTARIO CANADA

All kidding aside, I too will pay my way...It's just me....I had a funny several months ago on a Harley setting in a handicapped spot at the Mall...I started to call it in to dispatch..... I get out of my patrol unit to call in  the licenses number, when I noticed ......It WAS a handicapped motorcycle licenses plate..........Totally legal.......I watched for the owner and sure enough he walked out using a walking cane !!!!...Asked how he got that tag, he told me that he was a Viet Nam Vet, and that he gotten 1/2 of a lung taken out and while he could ride, he couldn't walk very far...The cane??? He had twisted his ankle two days prior....I shook his hand Thanked him for his service, tore up the ticket I had started to write.....While I don't know all the procedures you have to go through to get a M/C handicap tag, I do know that it is possible to get one....
