Despite the US having a population of more than 300,000,000 people, there are stretches of highway that are very desolate, where you sure wouldn't want to break down.

To help chase the winter blues away, I thought I'd start a thread of pictures of lonely stretches of highways, that you have ridden. State the highway and where it is located. To start it off, I'll post a few that I have ridden  ....

SR 44 in SD, just south of Badlands NP

SR 89, Monitor Pass, CA

SE Utah sure is a desolate area. Here are a few from that area ....

....  bridge over the Colorado River on SR 95 in the Glen Canyon NRA of UT

SR 95 UT, nearing Ducket Crossing

and SR 95 UT again, looking across Comb Wash, between Natural Bridges National Monument and Blanding

Let's see some of your "Lonely Stretches"    :grinner:

Hmm ..... wonder where that stretch of blacktop leads to ......

I call foul!!!

No fair. It's winter time and people in the frozen tundra can't get out and ride like us in the warm climate can, but I truly enjoy the pictures. Makes me want to get out and ride to those places.

Hey Dusty, Monitor Pass sticks in my memory, went over it with my BMW relation a couple years ago during heavy wind, rain, sleet and just about everything that wasn't pleasant. There's a small store on the West side that was a Godsend, we could stop and warm up and dry out.

BTW - I nominate Highway 50 as a lonesome road:

 http://www.byways.org/explore/byways/2033/

Route 50 runs from California to Maryland across the US. Unlike Route 66 it still does.

Hey that Reality check looks like Utah. First gas check was 56 miles, and then the 2nd was 111 miles, and then the next stop had a big AAA tow truck shop right by the hotel.

You got that right CJ. I've showed my pics to folks, told them you really have to experience it first hand. I really don't think they get the jest of it. Oh well,,,,, I'll just keep doing it as much as possible, and bring home the pics to keep sharing.
