They're over by Alamosa in the San Louis valley.

I've been there and hiked around but all of my pics are 35mm.

I usually like to combine a little hiking while out touring.  :cooler:

Garabaldi Lake, high up in the mountains, just south of Whistler, BC   .....

When Dave and I were checking out Zion NP, I took Dave on a little hike up the Canyon Overlook Trail, which is a short, sweet little trail. The Trail-head is just east of the eastern mouth of the Carmel Tunnel  ......

look close for  two hikers on the trail above and to the right of the Guard Hut  ......

a look back at the road, and where the trail winds along the side if the canyon(upper left)   ....

bringing you out on a little foot 'bridge'  .......

.... which drops off into a slot canyon, below    .....

What a 'POSER'    :D    .....

A little further along the trail is this gigantic root, anchoring this tree onto the precipice of the canyon. I gently remind Dave to be careful while he's checking it out  .....

.....  as a slip here would be   ....   serious!

After a bit, the trail starts to open up, as we get closer to Pine Canyon   .....

and the 'Overlook', where Dave took this picture of me. In the background, you can see the intersection of Pine Canyon(forground) with Zion Canyon. That is Hwy 9 you see switchbacking up towards the western mouth of the 1.1 mile long Carmel Tunnel.

This spot is in the next to the last pic that you posted Dusty.

This is me on the cliff just outside of Pine Canyon - Zion.

Great shot, Norton. :clapper:

That Sandstone provides great opertunities for scrambing, when it's not too hot, or raining, in which case it truely is  'Slick Rock'!

Here's a shot of a time I was doing a bit of scrambling on a white sandstone monolith, at Snow Canyon SP, just NW of St George UT. If you look very carefully, you will spot a couple of hikers, in the 'gully', to the left of the 'sand trap', located at the bottom of one side of the monolith.

Thanks, Norton.  :blushing:

Garibaldi is one of those 'Special Places' that I can never get enough of. I've meet backpackers up there, from all over the world.

I think it's easy to see why.

It requires a fair 'grunt' to get up to the lake, and another, shorter grunt, to get up to the Black Tusk area.

A shot of some of the glaciers at the far end of the lake, from my campsite  .....

you then hike up out from the lake area, towards the Black Tusk, with great scenes in front of you  .....

  ....  and behind you   ....

then the Tusk comes into clear view  ...

...  passing lots of wildflowers in the process   .....

like I said, it's a bit of a 'grunt'  ....

more 'grunting'  .....

   .....   and some 'scrambling'  .....

until you can sit a spell to rest  .....

and just 'look out' over the surreal landscape that abounds  ....

Whistler/Blackcomb to the north

I got some of mine uploaded, so here are a few of my favorites from our trip after Nassir II.

Iron Mountain between Ouray and Silverton CO.

One of my favorite pictures from the whole trip.  Taken in Colorado National Monument.  The people on the left give a good perspective of just how huge this place is.  The spire where the people are standing to the one on the right is several hundred yards.

Delicate Arch in Arches Natinal Park, just at sunset.  The colors in this place late in the day were incredible.  We left the area early the next morning and the colors were wonderful then too.

Someplace in the Grand Staircase Escalante area.  Dusty probably knows exactly where it is, I just remember a day of wonderful riding through unbelievable countryside.

The next one is a view from our campsite at the KOA between Bryce and Zion near Glendale UT.

This is a picture of Angel's landing from the bottom.

This last one is a zoomed in shot of angel's landing trail.  You can see a red spot and few white spots near the top.  Those are people hiking up to the top.

Hey Doug :waving:

That 1st one is at the view point, just north of the town of Escalante, overlooking the great area you ride through on SR 12  -  very scenic, indeed!  :cooler:

Angels Landing  - Great Trail, not for the faint of heart or those that suffer from vertigo        ....

you start off on the trail crossing the Virgin river and gradually make your way up, along the trail to what is known as Refrigerator Canyon, a very narrow 'cleft' that only sees direct sunlight for an hour a day and therefore remains much cooler that the surrounding area.

this is how it appears from the approach trail. It is the brken 'jumble of rocks' that you see, just to the right of centre in this shot  ....

looking back down to the approach trail  ....

some pretty amazing 'wind sculptures', carved out in the soft sandstone, by the wind in Refrigerator Canyon  ....

you then ascend out of Refrigerator Canyon on what is called 'Walter's Wriggles'  ....

to Scouts Lookout  ....

Then, you start on the 'trail' to Angels Landing from there. Pretty easy at 1st   .....

until you get to this spot, which is where a lot of people that have made it this far, turn around.    .....

(there are actually 4-5 groups of hikers in this shot. Can you spot them?)

once across the 'crux',  you continue climbing along the trail  ....

There isn't much room up there when you do get out to the end of the trail   .....

great views up canyon, towards Zion Narrows  .....

down canyon, out towards Springdale   .....

and of course the 1400' straight down  ....

Foodman,  ....  the last time I was up there(July 29/06) it took me 2hr, 20 minutes to hike the 13km/1850m elevation gain, with a full backpack on,  for a 5 day stay.

Oh ya, I think there are something like 28 switchbacks on the way up to the lake.  :cooldevil:

WOW!!!!!!!!!! It just keeps getting better every time I come back to this thread :clapper:. Everyone has contributed awesomely with there adventures. And like Norton has stated,,,,,,,, it's real cool to see folks have been to some of the same places we have been to. Something about being able to relate with one another I guess.

DougW,,,,,,, love the shot of Escalante,,,,, I have the same one,,,,,,, great experience for us easterners , huh ;).

Norton,,,,,,,, you really took to the limit on that road in Nevada,,,,,, cool :cooler:.

Marty,,,,,,,,, kudos for starting the thread.

Foodman,,,,,,,, I gotta see that coast line for myself.

Dusty,,,,,, dear ole Dusty,,,,,,,,, Poser ,,,,,,,,,eh ,,,,,,,,Hmmmmmmmm???

Not too shy here,,,,,,,

Mostly happy standing on a rock, me thinks,,,,,,,,, who does he think he is,,,,,King??:D

Mr. Tour Guide,,,,,,

All joking aside,,,,,,, he really does know how to find those great shots,,,,,,

Now honestly folks,,,,, do ya really think he enhances the landscape?????,,,,,(you betcha)

I didn't capture this as well as it should have been,,,,,, but beleive me,,, this was an area where you needed to tip toe around so as not to go of the edge,,,,,, and his toes are on the edge,,,,,,,

I know many of you have seen this before,,,,, but tell me it's not showing off for the camera ,,,,,,,,

I have one question for ya Dusty ole pal,,,,,,,, how come when we click on the link in your signature "What Has Dusty Been Up To",,,,, we don't see this one,,,,,,,eh

Now I hope you know,,,,(and I think you do) ,,, this is all in jest. I can't put in words what great time I had spending time with Ken. I just know it will be one of the most memorable times in my life.

Foodman  ...

If you make it up along BC's Crowsnest Highway this summer, between Hope and Princeton, you should stop off at the
Cascades Lookout in Manning Provincial Park and stretch your legs(and eyes) a bit, with excellent views of the Cascade Mountains   ...  or a little hike through some alpine meadows, which starts a little further up, past the Cascades Lookout view point(good gravel road) at Blackwall Peak(seen below where the com towers are)

There is also an excellent picnic/day use site, with an easy trail around the Lightning Lakes chain.   .....

Or, rent a canoe to explore this neat area.   ....

Did some one say Silverton? One of my favorite little mining towns.
