I posted this on the GWRRA board because I was seeing a lot of for sale ads with "email for photos". Thought since I'd already taken the time to put it together and since the GWRRA board is "Members Only", Hoss Using PhotoBucket is very easy. If you can use this board or even figure out all the buttons on a new Gold Wing, you can do it. The first thing you need to do is create an account on PhotoBucket. I'm not going to document the steps to do that because it's very straight forward and if you were able to create an account on this board, you can create one on PhotoBucket. Once you've created your account and logged in, the first thing you'll need to do is upload your images. You should see a screen much like this: ![]() Simply left-click on the big blue box that says "Upload Images & Videos". When you do that, all you have to do is point it to the photos on your computer. Really no different than pointing to pictures you're going to attach to an email. After your photos finish uploading, click on the blue box at the bottom of the screen that says "Save and Share Now". On the screen that comes up, click on "Return to Album" at the bottom of the screen. You should now see a screen that looks much like this: ![]() Under each photo, you'll see 4 boxes with titles and an address or html code. For our purposes, we will only work with Direct Link and IMG Code. In the lower right corner of the photo above, you'll see I've added a couple of notations wth arrows to the fields we'll use. The difference in the two fields is that the IMG Code field actually places the image in your post. The Direct Link code places a link to the image that the reader will have to click on to view the image. The IMG Code is best used if you only want to show a few photos. More than that and users on a dial-up connection may find load times frustrating. The Direct Link is best used if you have several photos to show. These links will not slow load time for the user unless they actually click on them. O.K., now that you've got your pictures ready to use, let's place an image directly into a post. On your PhotoBucket window, left-click on the code box behind IMG Code. This will highlight the text as such: ![]() Now, right click on the highlighted text and a menu will pop up like so: ![]() The menu that pops up for you may be slightly different but somewhere on it there will be a selection for "Copy". Left-click on Copy. The text is now copied to your clipboard. Now, in another browser tab, open the bulletin board and start your new topic for your ad. Select the location you want to place your image such as below and right-click where you want the image to be placed: ![]() Left-click on paste and your thread edit will now look like this: ![]() Now, if you click on Preview you should see something like this only with your photo: ![]() The steps to use the Direct Link code will be the same as above except you will copy and then paste the code behind Direct Link. After you paste that into your BB thread, you should see something like this when you click preview: ![]() This creates a link in your post that the reader can simply click on to view the photo. In actual use, it would appear like this: http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii103/cvhoss/GoldWing/patrioticGW.jpg and the reader only needs to click on the link to view the photo. If you want to get semi-fancy, you can use the direct link in combination with the BB's BB code. In all of the examples below, you need to replace every left squiggly bracket, { with a left square bracket, [ and every right squiggly bracket, } with a right square bracket,]. After copying the "direct link" from PhotoBucket, return to your BB post and type: {url= directly after the equal sign, right-click and paste the "direct link" code and then place a right square bracket at the end so now it looks like: {url=http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii103/cvhoss/GoldWing/CountryClubGW.jpg} Now type in the text that you want to be the link to your photo. In this case we'll type: Right Side Photo Now type in the BB code url closing which is: {/url} Your complete line now looks like this: {url=http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii103/cvhoss/GoldWing/CountryClubGW.jpg}Right Side Photo{/url} If you go through the above line and replace all of the { with [ and all of the } with], your reader will see the following: Right Side Photo which now becomes the text link to your photo. If you've followed this far, you'll see that once you've uploaded your photos to your PhotoBucket account, placing the photo or a link to a photo into your BB thread is nothing more than a series of left-clicks and right-clicks. You don't need to know any complicated code. Very easy. This should make it easier for all parties concerned in a buy/sell situation. The potential buyer can see the item immediately and decide if they want to proceed further and the seller doesn't have to take the time sending out photos via email. If you have any questions, ask and I'll try and answer. Edited to add a little about resizing. If you use PhotoBucket, resizing is pretty easy too. First, if you look just under the "Upload images & videos" button in this photo: ![]() you'll see (in parenthesis) "more options". If you click on it, you get this screen: ![]() You can pick a size and any photos you upload will automatically be resized to that size. If you prefer or need to do it manually, if you look above each photo in your album, you'll see the word "edit". ![]() Clicking on "edit" will bring you to this screen: ![]() Your photo is the very tiny picture in the middle of the screen. You don't really need to see it but if you want to, click on the "Fullscreen" button and you'll see this: ![]() Above the photo, click on "Resize" and you get this screen: ![]() You'll see the controls I've indicated by the red arrow. You can either use the slider to resize or select a preset. If you want to use a preset, click on the double drop-down arrows on the right side of the "Preset Sizes" box and you get this menu drop down: ![]() Simply choose the size. Then, below your picture, click on "Save A Copy". I suggest this instead of replace until you make sure everything is as you want it. When you're done, if you no longer need the original, you can delete it. Anyway, after clicking on "Save A Copy", you will see this screen: ![]() In the box to the upper left side of your photo, click on "View Album" and you'll return to your album. If you've done everything correctly, the original would be this size: ![]() and the resized photo would be this size: ![]() Hope that helps. Hoss Last edited on Thu Mar 4th, 2010 08:30 pm by cvhoss |
