Godspeed and enjoy your trip.   A few years back when I bought my white wing, I bought it in southern FL and rode it home to Virginia.   It was intersting getting used to a new-to-me bike on such a long journey.   But it was great!  I wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

Yes, it is a unique way to learn your new ride.

I was cornfused a lot more than I would like to admit, but it is a fact. that bike and me are NOT at home with each other yet.

In all honesty, I can still remember thinking to myself with the '94 1500 when I first got it. It was over 3 months of driving it to work and back home, every day, using it for all of my transportation exclusively....

Yes, 90 days minimum before it was totally 2nd nature to do whatever had to be done without even thinking about it.

so, with a two year absence from even straddling a bike, maybe I should feel good enough, that I got here at Mark's safe and sound, and no real problems.

Oh, a road gator hit me early this morning. I was in the left lane of 3 lanes on I-75. The gator was rumbling in the right lane and the center lane was clear.

Gator was about 200 feet in front and to the right. I was feeling just a bit lulled to sleepy mode and thinking I need to pull off, get fuel and take a long walk.

then I hear "Kapop!" rubber tire carcass just exploded to the left across all of the lanes. I dodged the first of them but one, looked to be 12 inches or so in size, hit the bike square on the front it felt like.

I forgot about it until Mark met me down at St. Joe and we got to talking about the trip. I mentioned the road gator and we started looking to see if any damage was done. Left side, no. but that was the off side.

Front end? No, nothing.

right front? no,

right fairing? uh, all of the Shark Gills are gone! :X

but you know what? The bike never wavered an inch, I just heard the thunk and we went on.

The Lord's Angels took care of me again, along with the Gremlin Bell that OnaWingandaPrayer tied to my bike's trunk yesterday. The bell is still there, unharmed, and me too.

Yes, they do work.

Shark Gills? They are replaceable.

:cheeky1:

The bottom line on the "good pegs and shifter" has not arrived yet.

I am so pleased with the floorboards while actually touring, it is obvious why they are liked so much.

It is the different pattern of using your feet in a hurry with that "no thought needed" action that is quite noticiable to me right now.

maybe that will be overcome with just a lot of use. I am in no hurry to change anything on the bike now. After it gets me back home, that decision will take a good long while before I can do anything.

I reckon, that's where he switched it off, before sneeking back to Diamond Lil's

:waving:Glad all is going well.  Did that gator have teeth?  Sounds like it was hungry.

Hope the weather holds for you, enjoy the ride.

hathaway bridge eh?

I tried to hit the OK button after we got home, but I was so tired from the ride back fighting the wind, I just didn't have the patience to wait until my phone rang with the Message that I was parked for the night. Stuck a leash on ole Spot and put him to bed.....

Keeping the bike upright on Hathaway Bridge wasn't difficult, but it sure keeps you on your toes. Traffic is running too slow to let the bike have its' head and keep itself upright, so a lot of hand holding going on.

Most of the trip back home today was like that, too slow for the White Knight to take the leash in its' teeth and "get going".

That's the thing about Spot, when it doesn't function properly, it gives people cause to worry.

Glad everything is good.

Yeah, I am going to have to pay more attention to my body clock and quit riding when I get tired.

Today, I noticed that I was wanting a nap while we were traveling on the highway and that is not a good thing. I made a point to follow Mark by at least 200 yards to allow me to "wake up" when traffic or stop lights got in the way.

I coasted up too close to him several times before getting shut down soon enough. lesson learned.

Also, I forgot to set Spot to Track when we left, it was turned ON, but not in Tracking Mode.

I now understand why this original version got so many bad reviews. It just simply is NOT intuitive as to what it is doing at any given time. The winky lights always look the same. You HAVE TO KNOW what command you issued to it LAST. That is the command set that it will faithfully follow for the rest of duration.

So, from now on. I will turn it OFF. Turn it back ON, and issue the command that I want it to do.

Had I done that each time today, it would have been in Tracking Mode when we left Mark's house, and you would have seen the entire route from here to Hardee's Restaurant, and then back to Mark's home.

Then, after stopped for the day, turn it OFF, ON and click OKAY. Wait until the solid LED goes away, wait for my cellphone to buzz me with the OK message, and then turn Spot OFF.

With that explicit procedure, it will work the rest of the trip for me without a miss. Live and Learn, eh???

The newer model Spot now has explicit buttons for each Message that you want. Much more intuitive.
