I have been using McAfee for about 2 years and I have had no problems with it. It does what it is supposed to do and I don't have to think about it. It's time to renew and I have heard that Avast and AVG are good and they are free so I was thinking of changing.
So any of you guys who deal with anti virus and have a suggestion of which is the best I would appreciate any comments.:?

I put AVG on all my customers computers that don't want to waste money on MCaFee or Norton's, both of which are bloated programs.

I have been using AVG Free since it came out and have the State Colleges on it with the Educational license.

I have seen since V7 that it is getting really slow to scan my drives and gives me troubles in my browser sometimes now.  Slow as in 8 hours to scan every night

I have tried AVAST Free and it does a good job without the slowing down so maybe AVG's time has come and gone.  Many IT guys like AVAST as well.

Never McAffee or Norton.  Ever.

I switched from bloated Symantec to Avast a couple of months ago. I've been impressed with Avast so far.

It looks like McAfee is out :bash2: my subscription expires tomorrow.
I think I will go with the masses and install AVG tonight :smiler:.
Thanks for the input. :action:

I had Norton for several years and never had any problems but the price got to around $60.00/year for 3 computers.  A friend recommended Avast and I let my Norton subscription lapse about a year ago.  Well satisfied with Avast so far and the price is right!  FREE.

I have used AVG for a couple of years now on all of our computers with no problem.
I just looked at the scan history and it has been scanning my laptop in 1 hour 15 minutes.

AVG free has been real good to us so far, had avast on one of our new laptops, worked well, but scared the crap out of our kid when it talked out loud on the computer at 2 am when it finished a scan!?! we then uninstalled it and went with AVG.

I've used AVG free edition since it came out and haven't had a problem with it or viri (virae?) (viruses?).... Ah, OED says it's viruses. Whatever it works good.

Mcafee is worse than the stuff it is supposed to prevent.

AVG was OK, but we have found that AVAST does what it is supposed to without causing the problems that the others do.

AVG on all my boxes, works, usually does not slow down the machine......

until lately, I've noticed it a tad bit. Like Rudy mentioned.

My daughter is using AVAST and is happy with it.

Try Microsoft's Essentials. It's free and ranked top 10.

I have seen convincing arguments that the Windows operating system is a Virus itself

Well after checking the web sites again I went with Avast, although it looks like either would be good.
The funny thing when I would click on a new page on a website the screen would come on and then it would move down about half an inch (very annoying). Since I removed McAfee it doesn't do that anymore.
