after riding a motorcycle for the last 37 years I finnaly broke down and went and got my license. yeah you heard right I have never taken the test. when I first started riding they weren't required in SC. heard all kinds of horror stories .you cant pass it on a big bike you have zero tolerance people drop their bikes yadayadayada so I just get a permit every year. well I broke down and tried today .whats the worse that could happen? FAILURE but I sucked it up and went.

Passed it with no problem the hard part was paying for it $25!!!!

my first licence was $3 oh well there good until 2020

I know 3 guys that have been riding for about 30 years and haven't bothered with the license. In NY you have to pay more for every classification your qualified to drive, and they have no interest in paying it out to the state. They would rather deal with a driving out of class ticket.

Of course, I think the main thing is the fear of harrassment if they failed the test, and they're right.

I went thru the same thing here...the difference was, before they went to a separate license for MCs, you could ride 'em with the regular driver's license.

Then, there was a small time window where you could get the MC qualification "grandfathered" for the law change.  It is what I did.  I too, have never had to take a MC road test...just a written one when we moved to Colorado in 1981...

that was a great deal of the problem .

and  now I get to be on the harrassing side

some of us are riding up to ride the dragons tail

but one of us who has been riding for close to thirty years

doesnt even have his permit.

Time for some fun:lash:

I've had my MC license since '85-'86...I presume your area is like mine here in Sumter. There was no actual 'road test'. The local DMV has a 'painted course' and cones set up on the side driveway to the building, and an instructor observes you handling the bike through the course.

Now I just have the one license with Class: DM on the front. Won't expire til my birthday 2016....Then just pay the fee and get updated picture taken for the front of the new license and will be good for another 10 yrs  :action:.

And when you reach 65 years of age they're only good for 5 yrs.

That's cause they don't 'expect' you to be around much more after that...especially if you ride a MC  :action:
