My mpg has not improved using the oil, but I am using up that two cycle oil that I had no plans for!!

If anyone in the Seattle area would like to try some...stop by for a few pints.

I'm amazed at the length of this thread!

I think the oil causes the gas to burn a little more slowly which would allow more power out of the power stroke. I'm surprised no one has offered that theory. (or I may have missed it.) In this case, while higher octane gas would have a similar effect it would only make a difference in a high compression engine, which these things are not.

If the gas burns more slowly and the engine generates more power then there is less heat loss. This may explain engines running cooler even though engine temp is governed by the thermostat so that is still a puzzle.

It is hard to imagine that .156% (1/640) mixture would provide as much lubrication and cooling properties as so many have suggested.

Having typed that, I'm going to give it a go.

Went on a 305 mile ride yesterday...had oil in the trike & 2 wheeler fuel.
Trike got 37 MPG and the 2 wheeler got 44 MPG running on state highways in Western Kentucky at 55-60 MPH 1 up on each GL.
Rode harder coming home.... 65-70 MPH 3000+ RPM...no oil in the fuel, and the trike got 27 MPH and the 2 wheeler got 39 MPG.

KC9KAS.... Wife and i just took the 88 on the ride that started from Huntingburg Eagles(ABATE Toys for Tikes Fund Run) yesterday and i added about 1 oz or so of oil in 6 gal. and got 45mpg. I think it would've gotten that good anyhow since whoever was leading the group went 30-55mph the whole time. Only gets that good if i drive pathetically slow. lol.. Would be nice to get that at 70mph.

Well, I been on the rode visiting people for about 2 weeks now.
Unfortunately I have not kept as good of records for my gas use as I had planned and the types of riding have been so varied I would hardly been able to compare 1 tank to another anyway.

Tanks without oil got from 31mpg to low to 35mpg high.
Tanks with oil got 35mpg low to 38mpg high.

No way to really compare though, some riding was mountains and slow, some was interstates and around 75mph with or without headwinds etc..
Some was in hard rain, some was nice cool/colder nights, day riding was mostly nice and cool/just right LOL

31mpg of course was a tank with head winds fighting me I remember.

I'll try to do a bit better records for more riding.
I got enjoying the ride and got sloppy on taking notes LOL
Sometimes I just reset the counter and forgot to write down the mileage and gas and cost etc..
I know I spent a lot more than $140 on gas in about 2K miles lol

Glad to hear you enjoyed you travels. Worring about logging mileage and what mileage your getting spoils some of the fun and adventures.

We just returned from a 1300 mile ride around OHIO and KENTUCKY.
I did not put the oil in every tank-full of fuel, but tried to get it in every-other tank of fuel.
We rode mostly 2 lane roads at 55-60 MPH. I was pulling the trailer with probably 200# of weight in it.
Although the riding was varied from day to day, and my records were for each fill-up and not written down, our average for the ride was 35 MPG for the trike and 40 MPG for the 2 wheeler.
As I have stated in the past, I feel the addition of the 2 cycle oil is a benefit to the mileage and the internal part of my engines.

OK, I love the car tire and at this time I would never plan to put an E3 back on again for the rear!
The E3 I took off was nice, kinda new looking, but made a lot of noise and I did not like the ride as much as I like the Taxi so far!

Here's the thing, I am tall BUT I have some minor joint problems. Can't find enough to smoke LOL
NO JUST JOKING, I do not smoke that stuff! LOL

I am tall, but even with an E3 I have some troubles getting my leg over the seat! Not that much different for me with a taller Taxi tire really.

As far as riding, I like the Austone Taxi much better than I have the E3 I took off.
There were many times the E3 kinda scared me, made e wonder, or just worried me, in turns or bad road repairs etc..

So Far the taxi has not scared me any.
There was some really bad roads here in SC I did not like, but I think the E3 would have been even worse than the Taxi!
This was roads where heavy log trucks pounded down ruts deep in road, center of lane raised and rounded near center.
So if you can imagine riding on top of a rounded ball and how ANY tire would want to ride off the top curve to a more level spot, well that's what I hit!
I don't think any tire would have done well on that, but the Taxi was not bad, probably average to good! That was the worse ride I had and I think the Taxi did better than the E3 would have, but don;t know for sure since I didnto ride with the E3 on that road.

I'm guessing the wind wasn't a factor, should we assume it was calm that day you rode or windy? If the wind was at your back...Well ...Congratulations in your success...

I never seem to have the wind at my back, it's always hitting me in the face.

Maybe I should ride backwards LOL

I watched the MPG riding up to see Bagmaster last Sunday, I got a bit over 40mpg using the oil in gas and riding mostly 55-60mph on the first tank. Lost the receipt for the second tank, hope to find it, and not filled up since I got back here.

I'll be heading back home soon, then will maybe be doing the Branson ride again for test runs.

I posted part of this earlier but I thought would finish it off for this year as the Wing in in the corner of the garage, tarped, up for the winter and waiting for spring.

97’ 1500 SE with 92,000 KM’s. I am a gentle rider and not hard on the throttle. Most of the time I
am between 80 and 100 KPH and all highway and secondary roads. I use the cruise control for about
50% of the time.

Mileage using straight gas 87 octane.

Aug 16 312 km 19.721 Litres = 6.32 Litres per 100 KM @ $1.209 = $23.84 or $0.07 per KM.
193 mi 5.12 US Gal = 37.6 MPG
193 mi 4.33 IM Gal = 44.5 MPG

Aug 27 323 km 20.179 Litres = 6.24 Litres per 100 KM @ $1.199 = $24.19 or $0.07 per KM.
200 mi 5.24 US Gal = 38.1 MPG
200 mi 4.43 IM Gal = 45.1 MPG

Mileage using 2 stroke marine grade mixed at 1oz per 4 to 5 US gallon of 87 octane.

Sept 3 362 km 21.867 Litres = 6.04 Litres per 100 KM @ $1.189 = $26.00 or $0.07 per KM.
225 mi 5.78 US Gal = 38.9 MPG
225 mi 4.81 IM Gal = 46.7 MPG

Sept 18 346 km 20.103 Litres = 5.81 Litres per 100 KM @ $1.169 = $23.50 or $0.06 per KM.
214 mi 5.31 US Gal = 40.3 MPG
214 mi 4.42 IM Gal = 48.4 MPG

Sept 23 350 km 20.708 Litres = 5.91 Litres per 100 KM @ $1.159 = $24.00 or $0.06 per KM.
217 mi 5.38 US Gal = 40.3 MPG
217 mi 4.55 IM Gal = 47.6 MPG

Sept 25 360 km 20.708 Litres = 5.75 Litres per 100 KM @ $1.159 = $24.00 or $0.06 per KM.
223 mi 5.38 US Gal = 41.4 MPG
223 mi 4.55 IM Gal = 49.0 MPG

Oct 2 352 km 20.063 Litres = 5.69 Litres per 100 KM @ $1.119 = $22.45 or $0.06 per KM.
218 mi 5.21 US Gal = 41.8 MPG
218 mi 4.41 IM Gal = 49.4 MPG

Oct 9 343 km 21.466 Litres = 6.25 Litres per 100 KM @ $1.139 = $24.45 or $0.06 per KM.
213 mi 5.67 US Gal = 37.5 MPG
213 mi 4.72 IM Gal = 45.1 MPG
Don’t know why my mileage slipped on this tank, getting colder and I warm it up a bit more.

Oct 22 335 km 19.666 Litres = 5.87 Litres per 100 KM @ $1.289 = $25.35 or $0.07 per KM.
207 mi 5.20 US Gal = 39.8 MPG
207 mi 4.32 IM Gal = 47.9 MPG

Nov 10 226 km 16.005 Litres = 7.08 Litres per 100 KM @ $1.109 = $17.75 or $0.07 per KM.
140 mi 4.23 US Gal = 33.0 MPG
140 mi 3.52 IM Gal = 39.7 MPG
Cold and windy on this tank I think was the reason for the mileage drop.

My conclusions: There is a slight increase in MPG and that is good. After a couple of tanks with the oil mixed in the engine
runs smoother at idle and riding speed. The bike starts better both cold and hot. I will continue to use Super TECH with TC-W3
and keep track of mileage and report back. I use a gas-stab bottle for the oil, it makes measuring the 1 oz a lot easier.

I have put the bike up for the winter as of Nov 11/11 but will continue using the 2stroke oil next year. I have been putting
it in my 2003 Tribute, 1991 GMC 1500 and the 1953 Ferguson TEA-20. No records kept on any of these vehicles but I don’t
believe the minute amount of oil will hurt anything. Most of us from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s can remember the “top oils”
put out by Bardahl, STP and others for just such a use.

In closing, I would like to thank Chromo for championing this thread and producing a very lively and productive interchange of
ideas from a lot of forum members.

Thanks, glad to see your post and logs.

I was riding the same big day trip "Branson" often when I was testing here with my 1500.
Same roads with little variables, 300 miles total, but 200 miles gas to gas which was at the same station both ways.
Since I changed the rear tire to the larger Taxi tire and took off on the trip for a month or so there was just too many variables to keep track and compare anything really.

I was riding back roads up mountains behind coal trucks at 20mph sometimes and for a long long ways, Interstate at 70mph a few times, and allot of just nice country back roads around 55-60mph.

Just the main stops at the towns I went to Google shows 2,984 miles for the trip. That of course does not count the extra riding I did nor the back roads I took adding more miles. Easy a 4K trip or more.

I used the oil at times, at times I did not. My 1500 always seemed to be happier when it had the oil. A happy bike is a fun bike LOL

I would try to check the mpg when I'd fill up. But I was not able to post anything and I did not keep good records for future use, just rode and enjoyed the trip.
It seemed I got better mileage on most tanks with oil than without, though like I said so many variables in riding and roads etc...

I do know though, I had never before gotten any better than the top 37.8mpg without the oil under any conditions in the past. Many times on trip I beat that! Rather the new larger back tire, Austone Taxi, helped or harmed my mileage I have no clue either. I just never rode the same roads and style or conditions since I put it on as I did before to really check it.

Now they may be switching over to cheap winter blend gas?
If they are, well my mileage will go down because of that and I'll have nothing to compare to from past and have to start over. Easy enough for the oil, run it or don't, but for the tire, well it's on there and I won't be switching back and forth LOL

My best (2 up at 75-80 mph 200 miles, 55 degrees) was 38.6 mpg.

Just a thought.:readit:

... etc ...I  kinda wanted to hit Branson today again but she don't want to yet.
Life would be easier if she would ride the wings with me, then we just end up where I happen to land at LOL
But either we both go in Jeep, or I go on bike and she goes in jeep :stumped:
Errr.. Maybe someday she will ride again like she used to!

Get her on a Trike some time.  My wife unit used to ride the bikes a lot with me, but not now .... but I pull the trike out of the basement and she's ready to go!  She explained it from her POV sitting on the back exposed with no control,  she just feels secure on the trike.   Have a talk with her if you haven't before .... might help?

I know I prefer to ride the trike with wife unit on back more so than the bike alone and her at home.   I love having her along that much.

The ideal mix is 1 OZ per gallon, this will give you a 128:1 mix ratio.  It will do NO harm what so ever, and I have tryed it. My wing runs smoother for sure. As for MPG I have not had the right weather to really put to the test in seeing if I get more MPG's to the tank.  But I am sure they might be a little improvement in the long run.  And even if it does not give me better MPG, the smoother ideal and keeping injectors clean and all that stuff...in my books it worth that few $ in the long run.

Now in my case I have been messing around with my wing some by doing this for a reason.  I have NEW wing...so YES its under warrenty for sure.  I have one injector that sticking or something.  When I start the bike it runs nice...but at a high ideal.  As it warms up and starts to drop, I have one cylinder...not sure which one...that starts to skip alot till the bike is a FULL engine temp.  Then it stops skipping.  It clearly skipping you can hear it and feel it..!

Now the gas station here all have 10% E in it....or so they say.  I would say MORE like 15%, maybe even higher as every time I fill up at my local HUSKY station here, I am almost stoned from the fumes of what seems like heavy amounts of alcohal...

So I tryed the 2 cycle oil in the tank at a 100:1 ratio and within just a few minutes as it worked it way through the lines...the engine smoothened out.  Power just the same can not say more...or less...the same.  But it sure runs quieter and smoother thats for sure..!

Now getting back to the warrenty stuff.  I will be taking the bike in...as soon as I can find someone that I can trust...and this is the KEY problem here...!   The last guy that I talked to about warrenty work for a possible injector thats going bad...wants to like rip the ECM out and do this...that...and some other thing....but is NOT addressing the key problem....a sticking injector or such.   I told him to just pull the injectors and test them to spray pattern...fuel out put and all that stuff.   But NO...he wants to rip the bike apart and mess with things that do not need to be messed with.

I say...start at the problem point...and sticking or defective injector...and if its not any of those...then work backwards from there till you find whats going on.

As a side note I am not flashing any fault codes....it could be as simple as O2 sen that not working right.....I do not know.  Now if he wants to test that...fine I have no problem with that.  But don't go digging in stuff way on the far end...start looking at which cylinder it is.   Fact is, if it would be like a O2 sens that not working...I am fairly sure I would be having many cylinders skipping...and not just one...!  And one ONLY!

By the way...pulled the plugs, all look the same.  This problem seems to be gone when the engine is running at 1,500 RPM's or higher....it's only at idea to about 900 RPMs that it there, as soon as get above that...its smooth.  However....the bike is getting worse MPG since this problem has shown up.  Or so it feel as if it worse, I am not getting the same range from a tank like I once use to.

Oh as a side note to all this. My best MPG has been 46.6 MPG. And I use a computer program for this so there is NO errors, and I fill the tank till it can hold no more...and then use the pump numbers in the program. So error factor is very low.

Anyways, as I said my best has been 46.6 MPG and my worse...is 36.1 MPG...! And I am NOT one of those that have twist gas to the point I leave my brains a mile behind me...OK. In fact I am very easy on the gas letting the bike pick up speed smoothly on it own. Now a days hitting the 46.6 MPG is just a dream....thats GONE..! The bike is NEW had it for only 9 months now and have put 24,000 Km's on it. First 15,000 some Km's...was great was up in the 40's for MPG. Now...mid 30's sometimes...I almost get to high 30's on the edge of hitting 40's...

I am pissed to say the least...!

Since my last post above, I read most all of the 50+ page thread:
http://www.ls1.com/forums/f48/been-testing-91206/

A month later and I have been using the TC-W3 oil in a "1 oz : 5 gal" ratio (as specified in that thread cited above) in my 1500 Trike, the 1200 Bike, and in two of my 4 wheelers, a 1995 Thunderbird 4.6 and a 2007 Ford FX4 PU with 5.4 3v.

The 1200 starts better, runs some smoother at low speeds it seems, but then it always has run smooth except when ridden after a long period of disuse.  The 1500 Trike idles smoother for sure for some reason,  I don't have enough miles to say about MPG changes.   The 1200 has always gotten 45-51 mpg,   but the Trike ... "not near as good" at 34-36, maybe 37 ... and 29-30 if you hit the interstate at 70 mph. If I see near 40 this Spring, I'll know it helped some as the Trike has never hit over 38.

Now, the T-Bird and the truck, those I have some miles on familiar roads and routes and comparisons and after a month's use, for some reason both have picked up a little mileage somewhere.  I have a ScanGaugeII that I use on them and a couple other cars and use the instant MPG, Avg MPG, and a couple other readiouts (It'll do 4 at once), and in the trips to Staunton and Waynesboro we take often, same roads, easy driving, I'm seeing a increase of 2 mpg or so on the T-Bird and about 1 mpg on the truck.

Not huge, easy to dismiss except I've been making same trips with same vehicles and the SGII since I purchased the SGII in Feb 2010.   I've had oportunity to compare the SGII to math derived MPG figures on road trips on both, the SGII is always within a tenth or two of the math when I have not stopped and allowed the SGII to sit idle long enough to reset between gas stops.  It reads to the tenth.

Is it worthwhile?  I don't know, each must decide.  I use a former "StaBil" dispenser.

Even if you dismiss any mileage improvements, it doesn't hurt and it provides some lubrication to the parts in the fuel system, like fuel pumps and etc.  That alone makes it worthwhile IMHO.

I will likely continue to use it and will start using it in the '92 T-Bird and '01 Merc as well, maybe the Forester too.

Probably going to use it in the summer heat in the mower as well, can't hurt.
