I'm thinking of a summer vacation flying to Vegas and renting a bike.

1. Do any rental services have a bike pickup and dripoff at the airport?

2. If so what was your rental cost, type of bikes offered and experence?

3. Any road serviced offered and how much extra?

3. What U.S. cities have you done this at?

Dan

You might google "motorcycle rental" for the Vegas area.  We have several places that rent motorcycles in the Knoxville area, but would bet it is a local thing.  Mountain Motorsports here rents just about every bike imaginable and the Harley dealers have a busy rental fleet.

Dan,

Check out the Eagle Rider rental program here:

http://www.eaglerider.com/

I know folks who have used their program and were pleased with it. They do list Vegas as one of their rental locations.

In the rental world, most available are Harleys. In Vegas you might have a better selection of S-Ts or Goldwings. But normally it's just HD.

Rented from eaglerider near Dulles international outside of D.C. was an exceptional experience. About a thousand dollars put me on a pristine 1800 for a week. Insurance, any damage and towing if necessary were covered. No mileage charges, just bought my own fuel. Would I rent another 1800 from them? Nope......liked it so much I went ahead and bought one.

I would look on line at rentals in Las Vegas.  When the wife and I were there a couple of years ago, there were placed that rented HD's, Goldwings and even some places that rented custom bikes.

Rented a 2010 1800 last year from Eaglerider in Denver with 10k on the clock. I only rented it for 1 day and if I remember correctly, the total was about $200 with insurance and such. Fantastic experience, and certainly worth it.

Just plan on taking a Taxi to the rental place. Lot's of cabs in LV.

I would also suggest not doing it in the summer.  that part of the world is VERT hot in the summer.  100+ all the time.

I found a site that will ship my bike from here in Texas... to Oregon for about $200.

Far, far cheaper than a rental...

there are a few places listed. Eagle Rider Motorcycle Rentals · Website · (702) 876-8687
5182 Arville St · Las Vegas called me back this morning,212.84 24hrs,tax included, decreases the more days rented. gl 1800.
they can pick you up at car rentals by airport but not allowed to pick you up there. they say take shuttle to car rental and they will come get you.
still not been able to talk to others yet.

Does this shipping service have a web site? If so what is it?

Also in your case does the $200 include insurance for the bike during the move?

Thank you Dan

Bear in mind here folks, I was just "exploring online" to see how much it might cost for me to fly to Oregon or Washington State and rent a bike to ride the west coast down to San Diego.  To rent an 1800 for one week was over $1000.

I just about passed out... for the trip I have planned it would be cheaper for me to fly out there and BUY a bike!

As I already have a couple of round trips in the bag with Delta's FF program (and I am a cheap ba5tard!) I decided to look into shipping my own bike rather than renting.  I went to Google and typed in Motorcycle shipping.  I filled out the Javascrip submittal form with these guys:

http://www.freightcenter.com/motorcycle_shipping.aspx?_kk=motorcycle%20shipping&_kt=7afb1168-57dc-459f-9f5f-32282db784c1&gclid=CInv6_Lcgq4CFSleTAodAEFU6g

It was right around $200.00 give or take 25 dollars.

Then I went and looked at these guys:

http://motorcycleshippers.com/s_shippingprices.htm

(I especially liked these guys because they have a Valkyrie sitting on the crate.)  They include insurance up to $7000 value in the price of the shipping.

Let me REPEAT... I have NOT used either of these companies... but from the limited amount I have researched it appears it is going to be MUCH cheaper for me to ship my own bike west.  Then about a week later, hop on a plane, fly out there and ride it back.

just sayin!  It might be worth looking into...

I rent from Orlando harley occassionally. They bring the bike to the hotel for me. many of your questions are answered in the "terms" of the rental page in most shops. Goldwings usually run higher. And........ my personal insurance covers the bike as good as their meager offering. Even with their insurance you are still responsible for the first 1 to 3 thousand dollars. i never buy the rent company insurance. (car or motorcycle)You better visit with your agent first. I did at length with mine and concluded the dealers insurance is just money in their pocket.

This is oh so true.  A little advance planning will save you many, many clams.
