If you were looking at a 92 with 256k miles, what type of price would you have in your head if everything on the bike looked good? Is it closing in on a rebuild? I know some people say that a bike that is ridden is better than one that sits but 256k seems like alot. THank.s

Ask for maint. records . If it been that many miles it probably has/had an owner that cared for it . Would they let you do a compression test ? Though that does require taking a bit of plastic off I have 186K on my 94 . It runs fine , though it needs valve cover gaskets . It leave spots I would think price to be in the 2800-3200 range but that can very a lot across the country and by season .

Low to mid two-thousands.

Mine has almost 180 and purrs nicely. I agree, having one sit is much worse than one that has been ridden. Having said that, I would look closely at tires, brakes, oil etc., for condition and wear- the goal is to identify what will soon need attention. Is the plastic intact? Any evidence it has been wrecked? Then its important to see how it starts and idles and find out how tight the tranny is. Are there leaks on the forks or drips underneath? If it has that many miles and has been meticulously maintained, it could be a great bike; if it has been run into the ground, better to walk on by. You should be able to get a good buy on this bike, if it is worth having. Even if it's nice, expect to spend some money on it. Others will soon weigh in, but I'd hate to give more than $2,500 for a bike with that many miles, but condition is everything! Just remember what you paid for the advice...

A bike with that many miles had to have been very well cared for. I'd be curious as to why the owner is selling it. If I put 250k on a bike, I'd be riding it to its grave. If the reasons are good and you're happy with the bike, it's worth a gamble. I wouldn't pay more than $2K-2.5K for it. For that price, it's worth a shot.

Anyone holding $2,000 cash in their hands should be walking away with that bike. His customers will be few, as only 0.01% of the buying population are even going to take buying a bike like that seriously. As he just posted this, he's going to have to come to his senses a little, so I wouldn't bother contacting him until late this week.

It's been posted before. I contacted him about it by email several weeks ago and just received a reply today. He is the second owner. His friend was the first. If he took 2k I would have a hard time not buying it.

That is less than 13k a year so I wouldn't call that a lot of miles for the age. If it has been well maintained I wouldn't worry about the miles.

2k would be okay, considering the risks. A lot of them now with 250K and more, the engines will take the miles with regular oil changes. It's all the other stuff I would be worried about, like shocks, UJ, final drive, electrics.

I sold my '93 with 175,000 miles on it. It was running the same as it did when it was new, no oil burning, shifted well and was pretty decent looking. There's also a '93 owned by a fellow in the next town that is very close to 400,000 miles on it's odometer. It's showing some wear and tear but is running well and other than a few parts like a clutch I believe it's pretty much original. My '93 sold last summer for $4200. The facts are that most people shy away from a bike with over 100,000 miles on them. With 200k I wouldn't pay much more than $2500 if it was in good cosmetic condition and ran like new. If it needs new tires, brake pads, rotors and a lot of minor stuff like that I wouldn't give more than 1500-1800 for it.
