Hi Simo,

It took me a little time to convert the bars to psi so those of us who aren't familiar with the metri system can relate to them so here they are:

9.7 bar - 140psi    9.6 bar - 139psi   9.1 bar - 132psi  9.8bar - 142psi

You have a difference of 10psi between your highest and lowest cylinders so that's pretty good. The actual psi or bar pressure is a bit low but that could be due to a cold engine, weak battery or starter or a closed throttle when checking the compression. Offhand I'd say your compression is pretty good for the engine's age. Oil burning usually is more of a valve guide or valve stem seal problem than rings unless the rings are really shot. Typically the stem seals on the older engines harden up with age and allow more oil past the vavles stems. I don't think I'd open up the engine unless you find something more serious.

Actually I made the pressure measurement on a bench, just by rotating engine by starter motor and the carburettors completely off, intake channels fully open. Naturally engine was very cold at the time.

Thanks for the answers, I´ll just clean the engine, make a good service into it and possibly coming spring change the engine to my "riding bike".

Welcome to the forum simo_taavetti.

In case anyone is wondering why simo_taavetti's profile is blank in the opening post here, it's because I accidentally deleted his profile when I was clearing out old unactivated accounts. This meant that his initial post just has "guest in the profile" and he had to register again.

I have to take the blame for this mistake, sorry about that. ;)

Take it easy Axe... the Wingnut does not make mistakes on this site! He may from time to time decline to be correct but he does not make mistakes.
