Trikes rock. I'd love to have one. I'm sure you will enjoy it immensely.
Is it a 1500 or 1800? Oh, and welcome to the site!

Welcome, ranger3! We're new trike owners as well, and we're new to the sport (and relatively new to this forum, too); I look forward to sharing news and views as regards "life on 3 wheels". We're north/east of you, in the Great Lake State, but have family and friends in Illinois...maybe we can meet up with ya!
Welcome to the wonderful world of 'wingers'!

| It is a 1996 1500se with 58,000 miles, but I need to find some way to stop the handle bars from shaking at lower speeds. I really like it and my wife of 37 years the 11th does too. She is the reason I bought a trike instead of a two wheeler. Attachment: ce34_3.jpg (Downloaded 78 times) Last edited on Wed Jul 4th, 2007 04:12 pm by ranger3

Hi Ranger and welcome - looks very nice.
For the wobble, a little experimentation with tyre pressures would be in order, both front and rear.

Welcome to the forum from another triker. You have a sweet ride there. How about more info on it? What kit is it, what kind of suspension, etc.
If this proliferation of 3 wheel GW's keep up on this board, we might have to have a dedicated trike forum! (Though I like it as it is.)
As far a the head shake, if you hit a bump with one of the rear wheels, you will get some shake - thats normal. By all means try playing with tire pressure within the trike kit and tire manufacturer's guidelines. If it is a tire based thing, the rears are most likely the culprit. You might also tighten up the fork stem nut a bit. I can't tell for sure from the picture, but judging from the angle of the brake cover scoop and full fork slider guards I would say that you have the stock front steering geometry. I would suggest a rake kit. (A rake kit will tip the scoop up slightly, and the fork tube guards usually get cut down to avoid hitting the trim piece under the nose)Depending on what kit you get, they add 3, 4.5. or 6 degrees to the front end. We put a 4.5° from CSC on ours and it remedied the head shake, and the effect was like putting on power steering. Best $1000 we spent on the trike, especially with the very curvy roads here in the Ozarks. Benefits outweigh the money spent.

Ozarkryder, it is a Lehman trike kit and it has a 3 degree rake on it. The rear tires say no more than 45#s. How low can I go on tire pressure?

Run 45 lbs in your rear tires and you'll shake your fillings out! Remember those at the rear are car tires, made to handle the weight of a car, passengers, gear, etc. - The maximum carrying capacity is at 45 lbs. and you won't come close to that even 2 up with a trailer and gear. Most run 18 - 25 lbs or so. Start out at 20 lbs and go from there. On the front, start out with the recommended psi and adjust from there. We have a rear Dunlop mounted backwards and run 38 psi. That seems to be the sweet spot for our trike and that tire.
Your trike may pull to the right going straight down the road. (Yes, this is tire pressure related) This is usually due to the crown in the road, the more crown, the more it will pull. Some add 2 - 4 lbs of air in the right tire to counteract the pulling to the right. On the Motortrike, the axle can be moved in the ladder bars slightly to push to the left (I don't think other brands recommend this, if it can be done at all) but the tire adjustment is easier.

| Another air pressure question: Since the air pressure in the front and rear shocks is to be set while on the center stand, what computation can I make for adjusting the shocks on my trike? Obviously, no center stand! It is a 1994 SE with a California Sidecar conversion. Any suggestions appreciated! (Right now the front reads 10 psi and the rear...according to the computer...reads 55 psi. California recommends 35 psi in the rear...but of course, that would be on the center stand...which it isn't...help!) Last edited on Fri Aug 8th, 2008 06:31 pm by FatherWilliam57
