anyone have any experience with Kno Place Upholstery Co. ? Claim to take your present seat, install gel insert with proper foam backing. Sounds good.

I had a Saddlemen on my 1999 Goldwing. It was the lowboy style. I hated it and so did my wife. The wornout stock seat was better. I had a Corbin on my 2005 V-Max. I could actually ride longer and with more comfort on the Corbin seat on the V-Max than the Saddlemen seat on the Goldwing. Corbin is deceptively comfortable. It's expensive, but I think it's worth it.

I could get my feet down grand with the Corbin (I'm 5' 7") but it was just too bloody hard and my missus wasn't impressed with it either. I ended up putting the stock Honda saddle back. Thats my opinion of the corbin seat also . They using foam or hard plastic in them things

Now I'm not bashin them, but....I could not ride with a stock seat for more than an hour or so. So I shopped around and decided to go with the RoadSofa from Saddlemens. They took my inseam and hieght/weight info, and I specifically said I needed 4 inches higher, and 2 inches farther back. I was told there was no problem. They sent a sample of the vynil I chose and everything was a go. When the seat came out of the box, I was impressed with the weight and firmness of the new seat. But not for long. The fit to the bike was terrible! Huge gaps, sat crooked, too. I was told that (and I swear to God this is true), "We can't fit the bike exactly, cause Honda will sue us if it fits as good as the stock seat." I was dumbfounded that he thought I was that stupid. Then I asked when I should expect my passenger cover, as it was not in the box, and I paid for it. Response was that it takes longer to make, and I'd have it soon. One month later it came, fits terrible as well. I was told that it takes a long time to "break it in", cause it was hard as a rock. It's been 3 years and it is still hard. All the info they took to custom fit my body was a joke. It was exactly the opposite of what I asked for. It was 4 inches LOWER and 2 inches FOREWARD!. I have come to live with it, as it cost me $700.00 plus. I have since seen the same seat at JCWhitney for around $300.00! Off the shelf Road Sofas! So my point is, don't trust them as far as you can spit. They lie and will NOT custom fit your seat. It's a ruse. They used to be a leader in the seat busness, but something has changed dramatically to the way they do busness. I don't know what, but something is different! Just beware. jimsjinx

I know! The dealings I had were so unbelievable, compared to what most say about them. I ordered the top dog seat with gel and everything. I tried and tried to be as calm as possible, and I am normally very polite when doing busness. I just don't understand what went wrong. I begged the rep to just let me send it back, and he'd see what I was talking about. He was having none of it, and the BS just kepy getting deeper, so I gave up. Weird. jimsjinx

I have a Hartco saddle. It's my second one. I had one on my 1200 too. For what I paid for them they're a great saddle. I don't have a lot of experience on other brands, but I have ridden a bike with a Corbin. I liked it, but the price was way out of my range. I bought both of my Hartco's from a seller on ebay that works for them. He custom made my 1500 one for about 1/2 the price of new. Here's a few pictures of it. As for the moisture absorption, I don't find that to be much of an issue. I spray it with a moisture protectant a couple of times a year and find it drys pretty fast when it gets wet. I just towel it off, as I have done with my vinyl seats, and that's plenty. I do always ride with riding pants though, so your mileage may vary. John

I have a diamond and really like it. It needs one adjustment to be perfect which Mark said they would do. I got it last June and did a saddle sore 1000 in Aug. Best money spent on my bike so far

I bought a Hartco Big Boy seat from a gentleman on this site for the long trips, I put the stock seat on for ridding around town and such, but for the long trips I switch seats. Mama has more room and sits a tad bit higher and for me, the sitting is alot more comfy but alittle harder to put the feet down at stops because it is much wider than stock, good seat great for ridding but kinda a pain in town for lots of stops and starts, that's my take. Good luck shopping.

Yeah, the Hartco is definitely wider, and that was a bit uncomfortable in traffic at first, but as it broke in that problem went away. The added height put my knees at a much more comfortable angle so riding long distance is much more comfortable. John

Had a Corbin on my Venture and just loved it! Felt like a brick to touch, but yet somehow was very comfortable.

I have a Hartco on both my 92 and 98. I would not trade them for anything. My dad has a Corbin he loves it, I do not like it. I will keep my Hartco. Wife had back surgery last August, she can ride on the Hartco with no problems.

Can the Utopia backrest still be installed on the Corbin, or only on the OEM?

You might shoot an inquiry to Utopia, they'd be glad to tell you. They are nice people to deal with. http://www.utpr.com/

I have a Corbin on my 1500, my backside aches after an hour. It has 65k miles on it so I think it's broke in. The seat wears well being it is leather. Maybe it's just me I dont have anything to compare it to. My buddy with his Ultra Classic doesn't seem to have the same problem.

If I might add a comment about the Corbin, and really all custom seats. If possible go directly to them and let them make it while you are there. I've always hated Corbins until I sat on one constructed for a 265 pound guy with a 30 inch inseam. The guy went to Hollister, where they formed the seat and sent him out on a ride. When he came back, they made the adjustments he felt he needed and sent him for another ride. Only after he was happy with the feel, did they apply upholstery. I happen to be the same size as him and when I bought the bike, a Moto Guzzi, I was very happy with the seat. I once had an "off the shelf" Road Sofa that was quite soft and very comfortable when I first got on it. Thirty miles down the road I felt like I was sitting on a steel pan. It would have probably been great for someone 50 pounds lighter than me.

I picked up a Hartco off the guy on e-bay and have about 30,000 miles on it so far.Wife and I both love it.I do like the Corbin, but too much money for me.IMHO any after market seat is light years ahead of stock.
