First off Steve, let me say thank you for giving us this great place to hang out when we're not riding. Thank you, thank you.
1. When was this site first launched.
2. What gave you the idea.
3. Did you ever expect it to grow like it has, I joined just over a year ago, and it has grown quite a bit since then.
4. If I could ever get my wife to fly, or get on a ship, I would love to have a "face to face" someday. That ain't gonna happen!
I think some of the newer members would like a little history (myself included)
Again thanks for the forum, it has really helped me out alot. And I've made some new friends, always a good thing.

Since we're picking apart grammar and such, Redneck, what's a "moth" of Sundays?
Seriously, I've been wondering these same things and look forward to some history on the site. This is a terrific resource for a mechanical idiot such as myself. I've recommended it to some friends who have also found it very useful. When I need to know something, this is where I come.

It would be interesting on the history, unless Wingnut is like some of us, the wife cut him off for something meaningless and just got bored and started going stir crazy!

Would you believe that I'm only seeing this thread for the first time today? Well I suppose a belated answer is better than none;
1. July 1999 for the site. First forum in December 2003, but the hosters/suppliers I rented it from went bust and I bought this one and the domain name goldwingfacts.com and set up this forum in July 2004.
2. Goldwing sites were thin on the ground in 1998 and I wanted to try and get some non-commercial information up on the web for anyone interested in Goldwings and put up the homepage in August 1999.
By 2003 I was getting so many e-mails (often hundreds a month) asking me for tech help that I decided a forum was needed to get me away from the computer and spend more time being a dad. Junior and I lived alone at the time and I needed to spend all my available time with him so I had little to spare for answering all the questions. Besides, you guys know much more about Goldwings than I ever will.
3. No, definitely not. I don't really know how it became so popular (lets face it there were no shortage of Wing forums around by 2004 anyway) and I doubt if it was down to anything that I did, so I can't take any real credit. At a guess, I think we were lucky to attract an initial core membership of people who were friendly, knowledgable and helpful to other members. Also I wanted to make sure that owners of all the Goldwing models were welcome. Keeping the site and forum out of the clutches of vendors and free of adverts and vendor manipulation may have been a positive factor, but I've no way of knowing for sure.
You guys and girls make the forum what it is now, I just do a bit of tidying up along the way. The forum was never a place for me as you can probably guess by my meagre post count.
I have to add that as well as the participation of all the members who regularly post here, I would be lost without Ciaran's (wexman) help. While I struggle to read about 5% of the daily posts now, Ciaran unselfishly puts in many hours of his time making sure things run well and keeping a lid on things when they heat up. He has automatically filled in when I've been away, busy or couldn't be bothered. That's why I recently made him co-Admin.
Hopefully we will all be able to enjoy out Goldwings and the forum for a long time to come.

Well Thank you for seeing a need and having an idea that has been a great place to hang out. I have snooped around on a few other forums, and this one is the best.
You've done a deed that you should be very proud of!!! and just keep cracking the whip on wexman and everything should be great!!

A good example of the members good nature is the new Introduction forum. The last couple of days we have had tons of first-time posters introducing themselves and every single one of them were warmly welcomed by you guys and girls (even though I know it must have been an effort to check them all) and none of the newbies are ever left feeling out in the cold. Thanks and well done to all of you.
