I did it. I removed the boards and put pegs and a stock shifter on and it makes all the difference in the world. I can lean, shift and just plain maneuver better. This simple mod made my naked 1100 feel smaller and less bulky.

I can understand making all the difference in the world... its really irritating having to lift my foot to brake, and even more irritating to scrape the floorboards and have them fold up and pinch your feet!

Floorboards on opposed engine motorcycles never seem to be a very good idea. I tried it on one of my BMW's years ago and it's just too cramped in that area with cylinders and stuff hanging down in the way. I looked at boards for GL's too but decided there just wasn't enough room down there to work like I wanted them to work. Old Harley FL was fine with springy floorboards - didn't lean too much anyway and the vibration would have had my feet sliding off pegs. Floorboards are/were a good idea for that FL but not BMW/GL opposed engine bikes.

Just warms the cockles (or whatever kind of clams) of my heart to hear these apostates swearing off the floorboards on their poor suffering Goldwings. It's always been my contention that only forward control cruiser types should have them. For all of you remaining folks that still think they are great we have hopes of converting you back to Mother Honda's creed in the future.

I've met quite a few, serious, touring bike riders who think floorboards &/or h/t shifters are the best accessory on their scoot. It's like those extra tall windshields, some just love 'em, but they aren't for me.
