Me I would love to have an altimeter on the bike, living in the mountains its just one of those things I like to know. Yup it will often explain a temperature drop or even a loss in performance.............plus I worked in the aviation industry for over 20 years

Hey Wildcat, if I can get an oil gauge that will fit in that spot, I'll send the Altimeter to you.

Hey now that would be sweet. What size is the hole? Are you after a Honda gauge or just whatever with the black face?
Cheers
Tim

| Something that match the other gauges and fits the hole. I think I have one in storage. I'll just have to go look for it.

So...does the air temp guage work? I mean, is it actually 86 degrees where you are???

| as once told to me by an instructor. The altimeter doesnt tell you how high you are in relation to the earth but tells you how long you have to realize your mistake before hitting the ground.

Anyone want an altimeter for their GL 1100. This guy says it is the only 12K altimeter he has ever seen. Only asking "Buy It Now": $175.00, starting bid is $99.99. Better hurry, only 4 days left to bid.
Ebay Altimeter
On second thought, if you really want one, I will sell you mine for $90.00 and I will pay the shipping.

| My sons GL1100 interstate had those gauges. I had never seen them either. I was figuring that it was an option and the original owner had put them on. I never saw the altimetor move, but the temp and clock were nice. Volt meter let you know if there were too many lights on.

It's not much of an altimeter, you have to have at least 200ft change to even notice it moved. When I first got my 83 I didn't think it worked until I went up to my parents place which is about 1300 ft higher than where I live.

I wasn't sure that mine worked until we took the trip to Chicago. Did see it at different readings between here and there. I don't see much reason or good for having one though.

I have those gauges on my '81 that my uncle installed a short time after buying it new because of multiple open heart surgeries he was warned to not ride over a certain altitude. I dont know if he followed the instructions too close but at least he knew when he was breaking the rules . He lived in San Bernadino(?) CA and ride alot in the mountains so that would be the closest I can come up with for an explanation. Mine all still work and look good and since im leaving the bike pretty much like he had it they are staying on the bike. Flyone even comented that he was surprised the Honda Clock still works, but hey its a Honda

| Of course if you have a GPS most of them have an altimeter function that's a lot more accurate than an aneroid barometer type.

| That panel between the speakers seems to come in a variety of ways. I have two '82 Aspencade meter panels. One has four digital meters, radio station readout, voltage, ambient air temperature, and CB channel. The other one has three meters, digital radio station readout and CB channel, one center meter and it's an analog voltmeter. Last edited on Sat May 10th, 2008 04:45 am by exavid

| An altimeter is going vary around 500' even if it never moves due to barometric pressure changes. One inch of mercury equals approximately 1000' so a half inch change on the barometer equals about 500' on an altimeter.
