| As some my know I bought a 1980 Interstate and a 1983 Aspencade this week at a good price. As I mentioned in my Frozen Engine Post I have a gauge on my Interstate fairing I've never seen before but more than that why would you need an Altimeter? Attachment: Int Dash.JPG (Downloaded 404 times)

Reminds me of that song..."I'm flying in my taxi, collecting tips and getting stoned" Maybe riding just gave someone a natural high.

That was an option on the wings, I remember Toyota having it on a pickup I used in Honduras back in the mid 80s, I believe it was just a novelty item at the time, pretty useless unless you were planing on running up Pikes Peak or the Alps to make sure you wouldn't get so high up, that the engine might need a carb adjustment or that you might not have enough air, or to make you feel like a pilot.

I believe that has to take place in a flying machine to qualify.

And unlike the diluted "Mile High Clubbers" who claim membership due to a quick fumble in an airliner's lavatory, we TRUE Mile High Club members know that actual real membership can only be attained while FLYING the airplane.

There is an Altimeter like yours on my 1983 GL 1100A/Sidecar. It is mounted on the panel in front of the right knee. It doesn't move much around North Central Texas. Not much use to me except if fills the hole until I can figure a way to patch it.
It is lighted so I can see it not move at night.

Eight miles high and when you touch down
You'll find that it's stranger than known
Signs in the street that say where you're going
Are somewhere just being their own
Nowhere is there warmth to be found
Among those afraid of losing their ground
Rain gray town known for its sound
In places small faces unbound
Round the squares huddled in storms
Some laughing some just shapeless forms
Sidewalk scenes and black limousines
Some living some standing alone

Hey that's for the birds.....no wait, that's from the byrds. Now I need to go online and down load some of their stuff and maybe some Buffalo Springfield and what the heck, some Yardbirds.
I have that same basic gauge pack for an 83 Interstate I'm working on. It wasn't installed but was in one of several boxes of "stuff" I got with the bike. Mine has a voltmeter, vacuum, lbs/sq.inch and one empty spot which I assume was for a clock. I'm sure the gauges are not stock since one is a Sun gauge. Am going to have to go through the rest of the boxes to see if the stock ones are there.
Am glad Teacher posted that pic so I know what was supposed to be there.

Only if you know what the elevation is at the bottom, and are good at math.

To get full membership it should be accomplished in a tandem seat aircraft with a stick, no control wheel. For the gold medal award in a J3 Cub.

Out here in SoCal, I can go from sea level to 4000' elevation in a short period of time. That's why I have my GPS display the elevation, so I'll have an explanation of why I suddenly got cold.
Depending on your locale, the altimeter might come in handy.

| I had to pay extra to get a voltmeter on my 1500SE, much less get an altimeter.
