I love my Wing but growing up with a father that owned 7 Harleys in his life makes me a little sensitive to Harley owners. I have several friends who routinely log over 100,000 trouble free miles on their Harleys. The only reasons I don't own one is price and comfort. Harleys and Indians created an affordable alternative for transportation and a desire to ride in America long before there were Hondas, and other foreign makes here. I really don't care what someone rides as long as they respect the fact that I ride for the love of riding and not to look cool going to the local bar for a beer. In fact, I never ride and drink adult beverages. We have a lot of fun commenting on Harleys leaking and problems inherent with their bikes but they created a mystique and culture we all benefit from. Bikers and motorcyclists understand the freedom and exhilaration one gets when riding! I wave at them all and hope they all get the same thrill, satisfaction and peace of mind that I do every time I ride my Wing!

that's absolutely priceless. I'll have to show my boss when he gets back to work. He rides a 2008 ultra glide and it's the same colour as the harley in the picture

That's one for the album.
There's a pic of an 1800 trailering a HOG somewhere on the interweb. I wish I could track it down.

I went to a car gathering last night. There was between 80 and a 100 cars there and 5 harleys parked in a row. I pulled up and backed in beside them and without saying hi or by, the climbed on their hogs and rode off. An older gentleman with a beautifully restored 67 mustang walked up and said where did my buddies go? I said I didn't know them at all and he wondered why they left in such as rush. I said I suppose they didn't want to be parked beside a real motorcycle that actually gets ridden more than just to the local bar. Later as I took the long way home I spotted them parked with several other harleys at a bar drinking outside and admiring all the shiney bikes. I laughed and thought to myself if they had ever known what riding was all about! I still have a soft spot in my heart for the harley but most of those riders today ar just posers!

I parked in alongside three heavily customised Hardly Driveables (You know the type, all show and no go with riders to match.) yesterday and deliberately pulled in nose first to the kerb on what was quite a steep camber. One of the HD riders said something to his mates along the lines of.."He'll be wanting a push back later." Shame of it was they left before me and missed seeing me powering back out of the gutter. I do lurv that reverse facility.

A recent study showed that 90% of Harley's are still on the road........
The other 10% made it home!!!!!

Actually I think it's just the opposite, when I was a teenager anyone who rode a bike was considered a hoodlum because of bike gangs that rode Harleys for the most part. Honda came along with their famous "You meet the nicest people on a Honda" sales campaign and reduced the stigma that Hollywood and Harley cultivated. The only mystique and culture connected with Harleys is either a marketing gimmick that works extremely well with herd animals and a lot of low life folk who think they're bad asses because the ride a Harley. It has nothing to do with the qualities of a Harley. Nowadays the HD is a good bike, antiquated, so-so performance, but reliable though overpriced due to their so called mystique.

I grew up in a part of the world that used bikes to get places. Harleys were barely affordable and cars weren't. My mother and fathers first vehicle was a harley. That is how they got out of the coal mining camp in W.Va. to get to the store. True, hoodlums gave bikers and harleys a bad name but they served their purpose for many, including in our military. Its the people that give bikes a bad name. The bike is just an inocent bystander. Just like blaming a gun for killing someone. A gun can't pull a trigger.
That being said, I love my Honda and dismiss anyone who owns a bike to be noticed. I ride and they pose, no matter what they ride.

What gets me
A $35,000 cookie that looks outstanding sitting there all shined up but when the owner sits and hits the start button your hair stands up on the back of your neck as the metal grinds and crunches, a loud THUNK into gear and you see the rear view mirrors bouncing and vibrating so bad you wonder why they are on the bike at all
Get next to one going down the road and it is easy to see why they only bar hop, I would not want to hang on to a vibrating rattle trap more than 10-20 miles at a time no matter what it looked like.

Wings are one of the few bikes made to ride. I don't have to tell any of you about their reliability and comfort. At my age, it is the only bike I can ride without being laid up for a week after recooperating in traction! Besides, riding is what they are made for, not bar hoping! While they were in the bar drinking I was enjoying a wonderful night ride thru some beautiful starlit countryside!

I get the HD thing, had a couple myself when I was too busy for long rides. Did a few, but it always turned out to be a test of will after a couple hundred miles.
The big ROAR of my 1200cc engine was fun around town, but as I ventured out, I wanted a bike that was actually made for long distance comfort.
Nowdays, I have a little 500 Shadow for puttin around town/work & a lawn tractor, both with V-twins....that's enough. Neither gets much 'seat' time, but they both are great at what they were designed to do....within an hour.

Maybe I'm a bit demented, but the first thing that came to mind when I saw the pic was a line from an old Fed Ex commercial. For the Harley owner, "When you have to absolutely, positively have to have it there".
