I know a fellow just bought a 91 1500. Bike has 47000 miles. At idle the rmp's are at 2000 surging to 2600. I thought that was a little high I don't remember mine ever idling over 1200. It does not surge over the 2600 RMP. The guy he bought it from says its the carbs but I don't think so. Any ideas. I don't have a manual anymore since I don't have my 1500 anymore. He is picking the bike up in 2 weeks bought it on ebay, any ideas would be appreciated

Pretty good bet that you have rotted vacuum lines.Even 1 line broken off would give you a high idle and a surge.

Rabbit, Fatwing is correct check your vac lines they are under the right side faring. Spray them with WD40 if it smoothes out bingo. Havn't had that problem but i should have thought of that:baffled:. I f that doesn't do it chek your plugs if foul maybe run a 1/2 can of gumout throught the tank.
