I just emailed him too. You'd think they would at least charge prices that looked low but possible!
3900! Just doesn't make any sense!

I have seen that $3800-$3900 range countless times. Sometimes the trikes are $5800. I really dont understand what is so magical about that level. Probably keeps it in a lower category of prosecution if they do get caught. I dont really feel like doing the research. Its too bad we dont have a lawyer amongst us that could answer that question.
How ya been Jack?

Perhaps that is the difference between petty larceny and grand theft? Or perhaps between state jurisdiction and federal charges. Either way it is still "stupid is as stupid does." Can't believe people are so ill informed as to the value of these beasts that they actually bid on them.

I'm not sure about the price, but I told the guy I am "Very interested" and if he replies I'll see if I can run down to Florida and take a look at it. If he says ok .. well, why not ; ) My fiancee is away for 2 weeks and I can take a long weekend...
I have to go somewhere right?
I've been good man, weather here in NJ hasn't been the best but we still managed to sneak a few nice day trips in. I have a little 3-4 day trip coming up in the next week or 2 so I'm trying to pick a direction.. they all look so tempting.

Yes, I sent an email. I've taunted this guy before. Craigslist shuts him down but he is right back a week later. The scam is always the same. The bike is not available for viewing because he is "working out of the country". He wants you to send him the money by Western Union and then he will ship the bike. But don't worry "it's all 100% guaranteed" dontchaknow.

That's pretty good evidence. Once a crook, always a crook. Gotta admit, the bike looks nice though.
Shuts him down for what reason? What exactly is he doing wrong? Don't know this guy like you do.

It sure would be nice if Craigslist and Ebay both would have some way to insist that these scammers put up or shut up. But they are only interested in the fee they collect I guess.
Maybe some one could offer to pay cash for it on the spot and then beat the crap out of the guy when he can't produce.

They do it on Craigslist because Craigslist doesn't charge a fee, they are free classifieds. Ebay hasn't been much better lately even with fees and their other security, but I haven't seen this sort of scam there yet.
If the guy gets back to me I intend to offer him cash and tell him I want to come see the bike. I doubt he'll be interested though... ; )

Here are the 3 emails I received from these guys when I played along last month. The email from "Moneybookers" is of course fake. They don't even offer these services and say so on their website.
Hi,
There are 64000 miles on it, the bike is in great condition, it has been properly
maintained, never been dropped or abused in any way. It has clear title and the price I'm
selling it for is $2950, which is including all the shipping charges.
I live in Eastern Shore but currently I am with work in UK, London for the next approximately 7
months. Anyway, there shouldn't be any problem, because I am using MoneyBookers services so I can sell the bike without difficulty. I left the bike at their warehouse before leaving to the UK. They will take care of the delivery. There's a 14 days return policy so you will have the chance to test, inspect and ride it before final decision. So if you want to purchase it, let me know and I will explain you how MoneyBookers works and how we can move forward.
I am waiting your email.
Thanks.
Hi ,
The bike is in Suffolk (at MoneyBookers official location). It could take up to 20 days to set up an appointment to pick it up and I am not going to wait that long because I am paying some fees each passing day.
So let me explain you how MoneyBookers works and how we can proceed:
In order to start the official transaction, I need your full name and shipping address.
As soon as I receive your info, I will forward it to MoneyBookers, they will start the transaction and notify you with all the instructions (payment, shipping, my account status etc) One of their agents will be assigned to handle the payment. You have to make the payment using the exact details they will provide you with and when the payment is complete, you have to send them the payment information, they will verify it and proceed with the delivery. You will have 14 days return policy, so you will have the chance to test and inspect the bike and decide either you keep it or not. If you decide to keep it, they have the power of attorney so they will transfer the title into your name and release me the funds, if not, they will be responsible for the return shipping and you will have a complete refund within 3 days.
I am waiting your email.
Thanks.
Hello
We have to remind you about the transaction you have with Mr. Freeman Rice and that we have a product ready to be delivered to your name and address we have on file.
You need to go to a WesternUnion office and proceed with the payment which has to be made using our agent details we have provided you with, and therefore the payment details must be sent to us in order to be verified prior to proceeding with the shipping.
As soon as the payment is complete email us the following information:
-10 digit MTCN (Money Transfer Control Number)
-Exact sender's name on file with Western Union
-Your street address on file with Western Union
-City and country where you sent the money from
-Amount sent
If the payment is confirmed we will proceed with the shipping and notify you with all its details.
Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
MoneyBookers Financial Department

Sounds like he wants you to pay first, then ride. Of coarse, if you don't like it, you can't return it for two reasons.
1. You'll never get a hold of him again once the transaction is completed. And...
2. There is no bike to look at.

Anything over $100 is grand larceny.
I suspect that the consistant asking price range is due to the fact that "Auto Loan Store" " Cash Advance" "Money Now" and other such loan shark companies only offer loans in that range. The people who would most likely fall for the scam are the same people who would be forced to resort to borrowing money from such organizations.
It's really mean, they are targeting people who are already in poor financial standing. The people who have just enough money to be online, to want a bike like that but not be able to afford one, but dream of someday stumbling upon that "Once in a lifetime deal."
I found that the listing had ben "flagged for removal".
The best way to deal with these ads is simply to continue flagging them whenever you came across them. The autorities don't have the time or resources to pursue them. And they know it.
Even if one did manage to arrange a face to face meeting with one of these criminals, I would venture that the danger would be far greater for the good guy than for the crook. further, if one idd manage to put the oh so deserved asswhipping on one of them, the unfortunate result would be the good guy being slapped with criminal charges.

| Everything I've read about these scams indicates that these guys work out of Nigeria and the nearby countries. Their knowledge of English is poor and their knowledge of North American geography is worse. I strung one along a few months ago and told him I lived in Palm Springs Alaska and that I was going to ride the new bike to Inuvik (near the Arctic Circle) for the pineapple festival in February. He didn't clue in and continued to send me emails.
