Hi folks. I've been approached by one of our forum members in Germany who runs a company that makes pins and badges. He has offered to make some for us for free, and he may even be able to make different ones for the various member groups (Guru, Active Member etc...), or some of them anyway.
The pins will be free for forum members, but will probably be on condition that the members have been with us for a certain amount of time and have a few posts, maybe a year and say for instance 50 posts. This is to prevent people registering just to get a free pin, then never participating on the forum afterwards.
Anyway to make a long story longer and if you lads and lasses think this is a good idea, we will need some input for the design and text. It's early days yet and I don't know what size or shape the pins/badges will be (I'm not even sure what the difference is between a pin and a badge), but once I find out next week I'll post the dimensions here. Once we have that information, I'll welcome your ideas for the graphics.

A pin would be nice along with some forum patches so it would be a lot easier to spot members at bike rallies. There were a lot more folks that went to the WingDing this year that no one knew about until after they posted on here about going.
I haven't been here a year yet but have plenty of post over 50!!

| I like the idea and I wouldn't mind paying for either a pin or patch. This site has been so helpful.

That's good enough for me. The whole point is to give the pins to people who take part on the forum, which in turn leads to many of them getting together and making new friends, doing some amazingly good deeds etc.

Steve,
It should be good quality, enamelled and should have the pin (s) that stick out from the back so you can use the little keepers to secure them. If confused, ask mne at the weekend.

The pins will be free. If a lot of people want them I might ask them to refund the postage when they receive the pins, ie just look at the price of the postage stamp on the package and paypal the few cents to me. A postage bill for say 1000 pins to different parts of the world would otherwise be a bit of a hit to my pocket. If only a few people want the pins, then I can cover the postage costs myself. But that's all for thinking about later on, for now we just need design input.

Steve,
I would consider it an honor to have a badge like that. And, it should not be totally "free" either. There are costs that should not be shouldered by this generous individual.
Postage at the bare minimum.
Put me down for my share of the new found Gold here on the forum.

I agree that it is a good idea and would be very pleased to have one. I think we should pay at least a nominal sum to receive one and procceeds cover costs and the rest go to the site or chairty of Steve's choice.

| Great idea. But let's all pay something for them. A lot of time, effort and a fair amount of expense will go into this project.

If you set a rate equivelent to a £1 a badge, i am sure most people would be happy to pay that, the remaining money could be used for charity or help with website.
I would also suggest that members from the various countries set up one person who you could send the badges to and distribute them more locally.
As for the design, open it up as a competition get the various designs and then have a vote of the winning design. the winner gets the privalage of saying they designed the badge

Athough the offer is very generous, it would make sense to me to charge 5-10 dollars and put the "profit" back in a fund to help out those of our members like Nightwing83. I bet you would raise around $1000 as most of us that are regulars will want at least one.

Good idea I think that would be wonderful to help a fellow winger in time of need. You could put me and the captain down for three sewn on patches, two pins and three bumper stickers. I still got room on my riding vest and winter jacket for another patch. So let's see...3 patches $10 each, 2 pins $5 each and three bumper stickers $2 each...total of $46 plus shipping and handling. Sounds like a bargain to me. Now where did I put that check book.....
Edited...Question...Which will carry the "Guru, Top Poster, Active Member, Very Active Member, etc the patch or the pin? IMHO the pin should and the patch should just be for the web site. Pins are easier to replace than patches.

Another great idea . I too, see no reason for you to shoulder the load of expense . I think a donation to the forum along with your other reqirements of posting and time enrolled.
I would think of a Pin as something smaller which might be put on a hat or collar . When you say Badge I think of something larger worn on a vest or jacket perhaps . Or is a Badge a larger, size like might be mounted to the bike ? On the rear bumper, fairing . I see lots of old cars have a badge on the grill or front bumper .
AS to the design maybe a competition as mentioned earlier is in order . Its hard to incorporate bike because we all have interest in one version over the rest . Perhpas using the same LOGO as the patches would be in order .

That sounds like a great idea.
I would think that someone who understands design and such will hopefully step up and offer a hand.
My suggestion is to have colors that reflect the origin of the forum and also my Grandma Kyle's place of birth. Hint: I-R-E-L-A-N-D

I know I'm not close to 50 posts but I would love to get a pin and/or patch. I say charge a few bucks and use the leftover for the site, postage or charity, whatever works.

I agree that pins are easier to replace than patches, HOWEVER, Patches are harder to lose if properly sewn on. I would be interested in having a few of ALL of them, Patches, Pins and Bumper Stickers but I wonder if in designing them, we need to be cautious about copywrited designs etc., we may need to get permission if we use any original Honda logos or art work. This is a GREAT idea and
I can't wait to get a few. Also I agree that FREE is to cheap, I vote for a nominal fee and let Steve donate the surplus to his choice of charities, or save it back to help any members that are in need. Let the choice be His.
Seeing as how the Site Founder is Irish, as am I, maybe we could incorporate a Shamrock into the design,, after all,, who couldn't use a Good Luck piece, and a nice green Shamrock would be an eye catcher for members to readily recognize other members. ( my 2 cents)
Blessings

Well I'm pretty new here but IMO it would make sense to have some sort of a wing on it. Maybe superimposed over the shape of Ireland to show our appreciation for Wingnut's awesome site. (Which has already unraveled a few gordean knots for me and saved some loot to boot!) Beyond that, I'd gladly chip in for one, Steve shouldn't have to pay for it. Just a thought....
