I have been using a Garmin Quest II but the display is small and the buttons are impossible with gloves. Saddly I love the thing but it is getting harder to use. I just found a Garmin 2720 on Ebay for $179. It is refurbished but has full Garmin 1 year warranty. I wish it had an internal battery but it is touch screen and has a larger display for these older eyes. My friends and I have been taking off and just heading north for Wisconsin and wander around. When it starts getting late we just have the GPS route us home and dont have to worry about where we are. It is a great way to roam. We have found a few great little out of the way restaurants for lunch and seen some great sites this way.

I have a Garmin Street Pilot that I use in my truck when out on business. I have not tried it on the bike yet. It does have an internal battery that seems to work pretty well. I unplugged it just for fun to see how long it would last and it worked for several hours. The diplay is not what I would call huge but it seems to be sufficient.

I've been looking & saw the Garmin 330 up close, MP3, etc., but it has a suction cup mount that doesn't hold it in tight enough for big bumps. Those with the 2.8 x 2.1 inch screens seem way too small. Then distances are in 'meters'....where are U.S. measurements? I have enough grief with silly metric wrenches & such.

I have a couple of GPS units. Both are Garmin, one is a 2730 and the other is a Nuvi 600. The 2730 is a gee whiz machine and I really love it. But, it requires external power. The Nuvi has an internal rechargeable battery which makes it neat for going on a nature hike in the woods and finding your way back to camp I used to have a Magellan Roadmate 300, but I let that go with the last wifey

I will comment that the screen on my Garmin 2730 is a lot easier for fat fingers to use than the Nuvi 600 is. But both of them do a great job. I like to set them for "shortest route" sometimes. you find some of the neatest store fronts that you have never, ever, seen in your own home town.

I have the Garmin Quest, first edition. It's pretty simple and doesn't have the bells and whistles others do, but it satisfies my needs, especially for the $$ spent. I would like to have one with a built in MP3 player, but haven't found one in my budget yet that is also waterproof. John

We have a GPS V, Quest, Streetpilot 2610 & Nuvi 250W. usually the 2610 is mounted for trips, I carry the quest for portability when off the bike. My wife loves her 250W so she can research ( shopping/accomodations) while in motion & it does not interfere with my navagation. The GPS V mostly gets used when I'm running, bicycling. I also would like a 2610 with an internal battery.

Have a Garmin 2720. Bought it from the Refurb Depot about a year ago. Took us to many places. Especially useful in a strange town when looking for an address or street.

I also have a Garmin 2610 that I have plugged in to a 12V accessory plug I installed. I typically only use it on the bike, but I have a spare plug for it so I can use it in my car or my truck if need be. It draws so little power, you wouldn't have any problem tapping into a running light circuit for the 12V plug, as long as you don't try to make coffee or plug in a hair dryer.

Garmin Street Pilot 550c,,,,,,,,used it on my trip out west. Mainly for getting through the big cities,,,,,it was a big help there. the MP3 is a great way to go. It also has Blue Tooth,,,,but my cell phone is not. Besides,,,,,,,,who the hell wants to talk on the phone while riding???? It's bad enough with all the cagers on the phone these days. I also like POI features,,,,,,,,gives addy and phone #. I used that for motels. I would sit in a parking lot of one motel and call all the others for best price. Touch screen works well for me too. One other thing,,,,,,,,,,I just put a clear baggie over the GPS and Camera when it rained, and had no problems.

Main GPS is a Garmon 550. Nice large touch screen and is color. Started out with a Garmon V. Both have internal batterys, the 550 is rechargable lasts 4 hours when not hard wired into the bike. The Garmon V takes 4 AA or AAA batteries, lasts 6 to 9 hours and also has a cig. lighter plug to attach to bike. The 550 is the main GPS that I use and really like.

I like a GPS. Have several of them and the one built into the new 1800. So I will concentrate on your original question......use of a GPS with gloves on. That is in the advertisement part of just about every GPS that is made for motorcycle use. I have not found any of them really easy to set or play with with gloves on. The only one that is glove user friendly is the one on the 1800 and it is that way only because it is not a touch screen but totally separate buttons big enough that you can punch the buttons with gloves on. As for touch screens......the Zumo units seem to have the best as far as use with gloves........but still difficult......they all work the best if you just take your glove off long enough to program them. A crotch rocket with storage bags.............As for oil I use the slick kind, and I like round tires, but as of late I have found square ones work best on the rear. Glad to see this topic come up. I've been looking to buy a GPS as well. After researching the Tomtoms and Garmins, I've settled on the idea of the Garmins due to reading many, many good things. I don't have a power supply on the bike right now, so the long battery life of the Garmin Nuvi really stuck out. Found the Nuvi 350 for $199 on walmart.com
