ABSOLUTELY! My next monthly check goes out on the 15th.  Let's not forget that this is a continuing story.

Folks, our forum is so active I found this buried way down on the second page. Bringing it back to the top. Not everyone got a chance to see it over the last week.

If you can afford to help and have not done since Sept 1st,
please give Phil and Erika a shot in the arm. Okay?

My little tid bit goes out every other Friday with an automatic deduction at the bank on Payday.

It's the middle of the month and time for me to pony up my monthly donation for Phil and Erika.  Once again, Phil and Erika are making progress, but not back to work yet.  There are several making monthly donations, but there is need for more.  If you have not helped out, remember that a blow out could happen to any of us, and send a bit of something their way.

Well, Phil is still in his cast and it doesn't come off until Oct. 4.  Erika is still having problems.  My point is, don't forget these good folks- find something to send their way, even if it is $5.  Everyone can afford another $5.

I just got an email notice that my bi-weekly donation was made automatically for me by the bank. It happens on each payday for me.

Now the good and bad news for Phil & Erika.

He called me just this evening and we visited about the symptoms and recovery process. Comparing how Erika is doing mentally with how I progressed as I recovered from the triple concussion I received in my accident.

We discussed how my therapist had given me certain types of exercises that will also help him. Some of those he was already doing. Others, he had not been told about. All in all, it was a very good talk.

Then, after all of that, I just came right out and asked him how the finances are doing. Well, it isn't so hot. Insurance coverage depends on the Plan Level that is chosen by the employer/employee reps for each year. In Phil's case, that is substantially worse than my own plan's participation. By substantial, I mean about 25% of the bills are covered by insurance.

The paramedical helo flights for him and Erika were billed out at $10 grand each! Insurance cap stopped at $4,000 each. The other charges have a similar sound like the helo flights. Insurance caps kicking in before all of the bills are paid.

At this point, Phil is about $30,000 in the hole, so it is going to take him a long time to get back on his feet.

The important thing for them, from my perspective is to help them make their normal monthly bills plus the extra nominal deducts they have to pay UNTIL HE GETS BACK TO WORK.

At this point, that will be two weeks after they pull the cast off his arm in about 4 to 6 weeks.

So, if you can, please continue to contribute to Phil and Erika for another two months at a minimum.

Phil is an extremely proud man and absolutely will not inform us of him problems. I am stepping out of line here to bring his (their) plight to surface.

I know that this is an extreme situation for our Goldwing Family. We have never, ever, had this serious of a situation in our membership.

It makes me proud to be a part of a world wide group that steps up to the plate to help "one of our own". And that, for nearly everyone here, we have yet to meet Phil and Erika.

But they are real folks, and any other time, we would enjoy a ride with them. Well, the "ride" just got very expensive this trip out, and they need some help.

So, as S. Clark said, it is time "to do it again".

I'll step off my soap box now.

PS see my signature for ways to contribute. Paypal with his email address, or just a paper check to his home address.

That's not too bad ... my mom's recent med-flight was $25,000.  The helo wasn't allowed to land at the hospital either, had to take another ambulance to the hospital from the helo pad.....  Stuff like that costs a lot more than people realize.

Insurance.  ha!

The 'wonderful' plans that my workplace offers to me every year vary from outrageously-priced high-deductible plans to ridiculously-high-priced low-deductible plans.

A person has to guess-timate how many claims they will incur in the following year and choose a plan that will best cover it.  My family is pretty healthy so I choose a high-deductible plan.  A few years ago, my wife spent a few days in the hospital and I was in the same boat as Phil and Erica, but on a much smaller scale.  That's the year I had to sell my truck to pay the bills.  The same truck that helped me maintain my 15-year perfect attendance streak.  Kind of counter-productive, don't you think?  Don't have a dependable vehicle to get to work, so that I can earn money to pay my health insurance to protect me from spending money allocated for truck payments on medical bills....

Why were they carrying so little?  It's all they thought that they would need.  And it was probably sufficient...until the accident.

Sounds like my employer is going to jack up the rates again this year.  Funny how everything but wages keep going up....

I can sure feel for you in that department also.  Last year our rates jumped about 15%.  My employer is city government and our wages are paid with $ales Taxe$.  The general public is hurting and not buying things they don't absolutely need now. So, $ales Taxe$ monies are much smaller than what was collected last year.

I just got out of a mandated full blown staff meeting whereby all of us were informed of the "good news" - no jobs will be cut (yet), but my little division lost 50% of our operating budget. So, we cut back on capital projects. make do with what we have now, patch it up, etc...

The financial gee whiz types in management are looking at what has to be done to make ends meet with our insurance policies. Probably going to up our premium cut of the pie. I just looked at my pay stub and it has $136 bux deducted for medical on a two week check.  My employer kicked in another $525 bux, medical insurance is not cheap...:stumped: and it is just getting worse from what I read in the papers.

Couple all of the above with the fact that my salary is down this year by 38% from last year as a result of my m/c accident/job change.   But hey!  I am still employed full time and they made a place for me to work.  I'm not complaining.  Just the usual bitching we all do when we get cramped in our "style of living" standards.

Yeah.  All that money we pay.....:X:X:X

My company announced that there will not be an increase in premiums in 2010.  I'm sure we'll get the screws put to us in 2009 though.
