Jim at Ultra has asked me to turn off the members name links for a few days so he can track down why the server is running slow at certain times. This means you will see the members names on the forum front page and in the post columns in black instead of the usual various colours. You will still be able to click the members names from the posts and the Members button at the top of the forum if you want to send them PM's, email etc.
I will turn it back on in a few days.

Good show Steve. Not a problem from here at all.
Glad to hear that Jim is conscientious about keeping the server running fast.

Personally if the speed stays as fast as it is without the colours; I'll take it without the colours; if people want the colours could we supply them with crayons and they could colour in the names as required....

I agree - nothing worse than sitting and waiting for the topics to come up when selected.
Well, there may be a few things worse.

I was wondering if I was just crazy or something??
The forum is flying now! I hit a link and the thread is up in about 2 seconds flat! Whereby before, it was crawling and sometimes taking almost a minute for it to load for me.
I even noticed it today at work on the company's intranet. That is the slowest lizard I have ever had to work with, and the forum is speeding to my work station PC like it is on greased rails!
If colored hot links is what slowed it down, throw'em out with the old dish water. I just use the standard yellow background anyway.

| I'll leave the links turned off for now as it seems to have sped things up considerable.

I don't think it's the colors as much as them being linked to the user profiles and such. It's running good for now but I suggest just turning the colors back on for the names but not the linking and see how it does. The colors do help in figuring out who is online at the time, makes them easier to read.

Steve,
I was just wondering about the names of the online users at the bottom of the main page.
I note they are now in "italics". Is that just a fluke, or a permanent change? Makes them hard for my eyes to read, but if the majority like it that way, it's fine.
The Colored online users was a neat thing, but if it was what was slowing the forum down, then I would prefer to leave it as is. It is way fast now for me, best I have ever experienced it since the board's inception.

Yea, at least get the names into a bigger font, hard for me to read them also.

Steve;
I have been noticing that the "last message read" pointers are getting lost on ocassion. IE, when I click on the arrow to read the new messages for me, it sometimes goes back a page or two, and sometimes to the first post.
Was wondering if the server crashes had something to do with that.
It happens quite a bit though, and I don't think the server is down two or three times a day.

Yes, the forum seems to be running much quicker, since the colours have been removed.
concerning the font size, ... on most other boards I've been on, if you hold the Ctrl key down and use the scroll wheel on your mouse, this changes the size of the font. That doesn't work here. Is there anyway that we can activate this, for our ailing eyesight?
Thanks, Dusty

No John, it's a bug which has been addressed in the new upgraded version 1.7 due soon.
