I'm sure there are a lot of members who, like me, don't post a lot even though I'm on quite a bit. I just usually don't have a lot to say, though I really enjoy reading the posts and have learned a LOT about keeping my two old beasties running. My bikes wouldn't be in nearly as good shape as they are without you and the other GW sites.

Really there isn't.  I run a BBS of my own, and I have over 200 or 300 spammers for every legitimate member.  People have websites  such as porn and gambling and cheap viagra and so on, so they like to sign up and post their website so that the Google bots will see their website listed out there and it will raise them higher in the search results.  I spend time every month working on deleting these buggers.

Just to see how we really stack up, I just went to the members list on this forum and did a sort by the number of posts.

There are approx 600 members with over 100 posts.    Thats all.  Only 600 people have made it to 100 posts.

If you ask me 70 is a pretty good list for only 600 active members.   It's over 10%.  Not too bad for a first call/first draft.   If we continue to talk it up, by this time next year, we'll probably have a couple hundred, maybe more.

But expecting a percentage of 10,000 members isn't realistic.

I realize that CCSAILOR was probably starting this thread "tounge firmly planted in cheek" and probably laughing to himself the whole time, and his little "tirade" will probably generate several more on the list, so for that I say: :P  Good on ya, for those that can sign up, We understand for those that can't, and those that just found out.... We want you if you can do it.... the more we have the better it will be for all of us.

By the way, I am on one list, but I didn't pay attention to the other one, so I'll have to look at that when I get home and get myself on it.

Dang   Caught so early :cheeky1::cheeky1:  Awareness is every thing!!!1 now if I can only figure out how to get him to list the 2 canucks who did turn in there name   Hard to explain to me why they (me) were not included as there are STATES with only one listed   Explain away!!!!

Wolfman has indeed put the sign up rate into perspective, some folks only visit the site once or very rarely having signed up, so are unlikely to become part of these projects. Even some of the higher posters may not visit very often, but have been members for a long while.

Some regulars may also skip over the sticky threads, in order to see what the new stuff is, so might miss the latest info in the stickies.

As you all will know, I hardly ever come on here and post , so I often miss new threads, or read them late.

So don't be too hard on anyone not signed up, but instead, just remind folks regularly that these schemes are afoot.:3sum:

For those just coming across this thread and wondering what these schemes are, there are two things going on, one a paper version list, done by Digby O'Dell ( whoever he is!!!:baffled::cheeky1:) that covers the Stateside members only, not Europe or anything like that. If you PM him with your details, I believe he can still add them to the list.

Then their is the on line type directory, being arranged by Rudy, which covers pretty much the whole world, so can be used by anyone travelling the Globe.

For those who are thinking that they can't offer much, remember, even though you may have no facilities, as a local, you will know the area and as such might be able to point someone who is stranded, to a source of help.

As for Canadians..... met one once.... she was quite nice too...... once she got the snow shoes and the lumberjack jacket off and dropped the tree trunk she was carrying!!!!!:cheeky1::cheeky1::cheeky1:

Many people have probably not noticed that there are two lists, or even one.  People tend to be busier in the Summer so they are spending less time on the forum.  I have over 5000 posts on this forum, but simply missed the fact that Rudy had started an online list until I got a PM.  I'm way too busy right now to read every post, and so I miss some important one's sometimes, even if they are stickies.  After I found out about Rudy's list, I made this post to help call attention to it.
http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/forum4/49573.html  It only got two replies, but it did get 128 views so far.

All that said, I really appreciate the work Rudy and Digby have done on this.  I personally would prefer it to be only one list though, but until that happens I'm on both.  Now those of you with your panties in a bunch, take a deep breath and go for a ride. ;)

John

I have said it before and I will say it again ,,I think  the reason why a lot of members are hesitant to post their details on a help guide is because they fear  people who they do not know turning up looking for free accommodation ,I think it SHOULD BE STRESSED that this is a HELP GUIDE  for a member in trouble with his bike and not a FREELOADERS handbook ,,Ciaran

I would like to meet one of those Canadians that SilverFox met. Especially if she was wearing a bunny suit!! And had dancing eyes full of mischief.

Basically it is just human nature. I have over a hundred local wing riders where I live in just our club.....how many are signed up on this site......not many.....and they all know about this site...and the Calhoun Rally....because I told them....only one person I think might be interested. So I just dropped it......

If you are lying on the side of the road with your leg cut off....who will stop and put a tourniquet on your leg....not many.

A few of us like bikes.....we like to ride.....and we are very helpful and not afraid to help.

It is the rare person who thinks for themselves and will actually step up in life to do anything.....most are like little scared sheep.....if you say Boo!! They run for cover.
They will never become involved in much...and especially in any situation that might cause them stress....

Just my take on it.......I deal with people daily.....know how they think.....before they do.

Kit

Fer me, I love Canadians. They've always treated me well even tho some of them think a little strange and talk funny.

I have only one complaint about Canada, it does not recognize a weapons carry permit from the U S. Now I realize that they have zero crime up there;), well maybe except for an occasional mad butcher cannibal that cuts peoples heads off on buses.  So no need to carry a weapon, right :?

Well Cyote61--I love no Americans, but I generally like most of you. You do have some antiquated laws and habits though-like packing heat-gees, a person could get shot for being cross eyed down there-or talking funny. Actually, I am not quite sure who it is that talks funny:baffled:  Well, the bus thing--er, ya we generally only read about that kind of stuff in the good ol USA. Probably would not have happened if there had been some gun packing Americans on board. Perhaps a general shootout though. Just ribbing ya.:cooldevil:

And stop talking about me like I am not here.:P:P:P          :cheeky1::cheeky1:
