It's 12Am and the wife and i are about to go on a 80 miler, anyone ever go out and ride this late? Only thing bad about late night riding is the drunks are out, but we tend to hit back roads, way back back roads. Just curious who tools around this late.

if I have to go out late, I take the 1800, got to love those lights. I have a headlight from a 99-2000 GL1500 on my 1988 Gl1500, and it is not alot of improvment over the 88 headlight.

And do watch out for the critters, both 2 and 4 legged types.

I love riding at night, the air feels cleaner, the road is quieter, and I'm riding free--Except for the deer.

Just a thought...... riding back roads in the middle of no where sounds fantastic, but it might be wise to leave details of your route and your ETA, with family or friends and also to take a mobile phone with you, not much fun being stuck out in the middle of no where with little prospects of help in the case of a breakdown.

My favorite time to ride is actually a few hours after that, around 2-3am. There's no traffic to contend with, and the solitude really appeals to me.

I don't like to ride at night around here, especially this time of year. Too many drunks and the deer are thick, thick, thick. Yesterday at around 5 PM another bike hit another deer. Sounds like he will survive but busted up pretty good. Good news is, he had on a helmet. Kind of a rare thing during the rally.

A couple of friends call me Grandma..........I will not ride at night unless it is an life threatening emergency.

I used to ride a bike full time.....just like a car......to work.....for play.....at all hours. Now I do not have to.  At that time all I could afford was one vehicle.....so it was a bike.

If one rides a bike for fun.....enjoyment........and as you gain experience on one......it is just wise to not ride at night.   It does depend on the area.....and the day....and I do understand the solitude......and have enjoyed the solid hum of the machines at night with the lower temps and humidity.....they do run better then.......

But Friday night.......and the Weekend......really ups your chances for drunks........and just ordinary people who cannot see you in the day......really cannot see you at night........then there are a whole lot of deer and dogs.......so if I do ride at night.....it will be in town....not on any backroads.

Heavy pouring rain.......puddles on the road.....standing water.......that is another one.....I just pull over and wait it out.

Kit

Kit, you said it.

Besides right now it is way too humid to really get out and enjoy it.

I agree with Kit. And remember a seasoned drunk will take the back roads home. If you have to ride that late at night at least go slow. Be careful out there!
