3:30 AM ? In the morning? Without getting paid to do it? I'll stick to night riding.

I'm a morning person by habit. My oldest Boston Terrier needs to go out anywhere from 11:30 to 3:30 so it's just natural to me.

If it's close to 4:00am, I just put on the coffee and get on the computer in the office. It's good and bad to work out home.

My sister is like that. I'm more of a night owl.

My longest trip in two days was from Portsmouth, Virginia to Orlando, Florida.  I was active duty in the Navy, and had to go to recruiter school on my GL500I.  That was the trip I learned that bumble bees make a huge splat when they hit a helmet.   Oh to be young, dumb, and good looking again!

In answer to that question about strapping our daughter to the tank.....We strapped a pillow down on the tank, daughter was 3 yrs old and I had a special harness built to where she was connected to me and couldn't slide off the tank....When the daughter got sleepy she would just lay her head down on that pillow and crash.....That long ride was probly her last ride as she was getting too big to ride in front of me and yet too small to ride behind me by her self......She rode with me on short rides later and longer rides as a teenager.....But she was dangerous behind me, even as a teenager, because she would, like her mother, go sound to sleep..and she was smaller than her mother, so it was had for me to ride and hold her back against the tour box....

I got my bike back on the road on August 1, today is the 12th and I have about 1800 miles on it. Just riding to work and bumming around, not even out of the state yet.
My longest ride was New Orleans to central Wisconsin on a CB900C full dresser (all Hondaline.) 1070 miles according to Mapquest (just looked it up.) Tha was a nice riding bike but not a good enough seat for that mileage. Sore butt for over a week.

Wife and I rode up to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, the week after Thanksgiving last year. After riding around the area for a week, we headed home the first week of December, swinging south to miss an advancing cold front. As we crossed Mississippi and Louisiana, I kept asking my wife when she wanted to stop for the night. Every time, her answer was that she didn't care - she was doing fine and to ride as long as I wanted. Well, about 17 hours after we left Pigeon Forge we rolled into the driveway - 1,190 miles or so. Beautiful ride! And neither of us were particularly saddle sore, just tired.

Having a bike that fits your likes and riding style makes ALL the difference!

My longest single day ride was a little over 600 miles from Pittsburgh, Pa. to Agusta, Ga. thanks to elh21566 and SBinSC.   :waving:
Having a comfortable seat and a backrest makes a world of difference.

I purchased an 86 Aspencade a week before Memorial day, and have put just over 12,000 miles on so far. I am hoping to break 15,000 before I have to park it for the winter. Calhoun will make a good chunk of the remaining miles. On a casual ride with no particular destination, I will go maybe 300 miles or so, and still smiling at the end of the day when I have to get off. :cooler:

Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Scott

I have had possession of my new 1800 for just a month and have ridden over 2400 miles so far. It came with free oil changes for the first 3 years. I plan on making them pay. I bought the bike to ride not to look at. I would be out ridding now but it has rained hard and I got 4" of water in the basement that I am taking a break from.

Just finished putting together 5 pieces of furniture. You all know the type, it comes in a box at the local Super Market.  A Fry's in this case which is a Fred Myers by another name.

Anyhoo, since I have "earned my off time" :), I needed to go for a ride. But alas, as that Freightliner relieved me of my beautiful gl1500se back in January, I am a bit short of anything to ride on.

So, what better than to sit down to my favorite forum and relive all of the rides you guys have been on???  Nothing else is better, and it is this forum that helps me to "keep it all together".

If I had my replacement bike, I would be taking the whole week off before and after our Rally in Calhoun.  A very nice leisurely multi-state vacation with a rally in the middle of it!  I can't think of anything nicer.

Sigh.....  Delta Airlines will have to do, but in the meantime, thanks to all for helping me through the day.

See you at Calhoun on the 25th!

John

We've done Sacramento to Las Vegas (560m) four times. Leaving early in the morning gives lots of time to tool the lights at night.

 SOME PEOPLE HAVE A nerves to call such riding a trip ??????? By car i use to make in one day from Louisville Ky to NYC .. by my self and with kids in a car.. The same would be for Florida Destin, when some of my acquaintance ask how long its take me i use to say 10-11 hours and one speeding ticket- they use to be brutal in Maryland for speeding.

By bike -well since we are farely newbies- even so- 200 ml on Saturdays -piece a pie- round trip for scenes and lunch.

I've done my share of 500 milers - I think the longest in a day was 650. But I don't really judge a ride or rider by mileage - for me, it is more about the journey. I have taken some rides that follow so many 10 mile per hour hair pin - twisty roads that if you do 150 miles in a 15 hour riding day - you are rightfully exhausted - but usually more inspired for it.

I would call the "bikers" in your story more out for a social ride - bar stops and all. Those are fun too if you are careful. We have a bunch of old "stage coach stops" that are now great biker bars that dot the California landscape. I have about 4 or so within a hundred miles in different directions - I ride to about one a month mixed in with my other riding.

Every year for the past 6 I have done between 1 and 4 trips from my home to Reno Nevada and back - about 450 miles one way. I make it a point to vary the high mountain passes I take while crossing the Sierras. Usually ends up being 9 - 15 hours including all stops depending on my exploring.

A successful ride to me is the one you just went through that makes you feel you want to go back and do again - but know you most likely will not because there are so many more you "have to" see before your done in your riding days - which is most of them for me - LOL.
