I'm a firefighter, and as much as I don't like candles burning in a house(because i've seen the horrible outcome) I will also say there is a time and place for them, as it goes for helmets, there is no absolutes, if someone wants to drive around (like I sometimes do) without their helmet on(I wear them almost alway's but I won't around the small town I live in), so be it,  if someone want's to fly down the interstate with no helmet, let them, that rider may be cycling smarter than the fully armored person , as much as that may not make sense to some, I know what I'm saying in just observing so many cyclists, and the fact that in 19+ year as an emergency services worker, the VAST-VAST majority of cycle accident fatalaties that i've seen are NOT due to the lack of a helmet, they were due to a combination of extreme excessive speed/ intoxication/ inexperience/ high horsepower bike. I am not lying, I see it continually, and it's saddening.

I don't recall saying anyone, in a coma, was alive. Guess it depends on your view point though, I'd give them a chance. I don't know how long they waited to unplug her wasn't long though. If it means that much, to you, I'll find out.

I wasn't talking about...whatever you were referring to.  The guy here locally went into a coma.

And cursing at me was still uncalled for.

Ok. I'm convinced. Your time is up when your time is up.

I'm wearing a tank top, shorts and flip flops from now on.

I like sandals.......the ones with the straps.  That flip flop thing between my toes is uncomfortable.......those sandals are pretty nice.   Kit

Yeah...I keep losing the flip flops. I am getting some nice callouses on my brake toe and shifting toe.

I also have all this extra room in my trunk...where my helmet used to be. :waving: More room for tequila while riding. :cheeky1::cheeky1::cheeky1:

I never thought about tequilla.....and a salt shaker.........I been carrying this case of beer around......a small bottle would sure make more room.......for an extra set of flip flops. :cheeky1::cheeky1::cheeky1::cheeky1:

Come on guys..........smile...........don't take it so serious.  People are people......from many walks of life and with many habits.

We all know we should wear a helmet......but if some do not wish to.....that is their choice.......you might be sitting in your living room in your chair and a light bulb fall out of the ceiling and kill you.........just enjoy every day........and if you get the chance......suggest to a friend to wear a helmet......if they do not want to.....hey.....that is life......for so long as it lasts for all of us.

Kit

Well it's great to see this thread end on a lighter note...:D

Hello, MikeF, if you are still reading this.

I deliberately wrote what I did, just so people WOULD get angry and bother to put their thoughts forward, even if they don't agree with me.:baffled: And it has worked!

After this thread is long forgotten, even if one forum member stops for a moment to put ON his lid before riding, it will have achieved something. Maybe he won't need it that day, but some day he might.

Anyhow, I am off to work now. In the spirit of many contributors here, I may decide to exercise my "right to choose" when I get there.

Now....will I choose to turn ON the radar screen....or will I choose to leave it off....before I tell that 757 to turn and descend....Hmmmm????   :cheeky1::cheeky1::cheeky1:

Now, I wouldn't be THAT stupid, would I ???

Ride safely y'all

Steve

We always wear ours. Our son was hit in the rear by a car running 40 mph and survived. He had a helmet and protective gear on.

He had me running around the house checking that all the bulbs were tight in their socket!  I used channel-locks to get them nice and snug.  hehehehe

Helmet?  City and highway...yes.  My village and other small towns...probably not.

Seat belt?  If I'm passing a cop or going through a "safety checkpoint"...yes.   All other times....no

As far as giving up the fight and doing something just cause some politician thinks he/she knows best for all of us is just ludicrous.  That's all I'm going to say about this.  Thank you all for your reasonable and rational thoughts on the subject.

P.S.  Now that the "Topic Killer" (me) has spoken, we can put this one to rest.  hehehe

Full face helmets are also very good for sleeping in rest areas..... I often catch naps on the picnic tables (after the first 300 miles, of course) ....my  head is always very comfortable in the helmet..... if it rains, just close the face shield.......snzzzzzzzzzz....

For those of you riding in North America, especially Alaska........

if attacked by a bear, leave your helmet on..... they don't like the taste and haven't learned yet how to open the shield.......
