I took 2 trips this season, both about 1500 miles round trip. 8 - 11 hours in the seat per day. OUCH !
So, what do you long distance riders use to help prevent soreness ? gel pads ? Sheepskin ? Powder ? I need to do something and am open for suggestions.
Thanks, Dave

this is what I use and it works
- Anti Monkey Butt Powder is specially formulated to absorb excess sweat and reduce frictional skin irritation
- Ideal for butt busting activities such as truck driving, motorcycling, bicycling, horse back riding, and extreme sports. May also be applied inside footwear, under sports pads, and other areas prone to chafing
- Indoors or outdoors, work or play, or on occasions when you sit on your butt all day, don’t let your buns get red, use Anti Monkey Butt Powder instead

| I do like my sheepskin, although I think I could have gotten a better quality one. It just doesn't seem to be as thick as I thought it would. Anyway,,,, I do know it made a BIG differance when I took my trip out west,,,,,5,683 miles round trip. But like others have stated,,,,,,,,you gotta take breaks. I did many 8-11 hour days which would be 500-700 miles. A good walk to stretch the legs does well.

We have a good sheepskin pad (Butt Pad) from Alaska Leather. That and a short break every fill up (180 - 190 miles) keeps the Monkey Butt away. Surprising what a difference a good sheepskin will make.
If your sheepskin is feeling a little flat you can puff it up using a metal pet brush.

I've used two different seats on my 1500. The Diamond velour that came with it, and a factory vinyl seat that I found later.
With both of them, I found that I needed to get off of that thing and take a walk about every 1-1/2 hours or my legs would just about lock up.
I've tried the "stand up and stretch" while riding, but it isn't really a safe thing to do. And, you can't do it for more than a few seconds anyway.
I also have the AntiMonkey Butt powder and it does indeed go a long way towards making your ride much more comfortable.

| My problem isn't my butt, but instead, my legs get to hurting, especially the upper hamstring. I think the solution is to ride more.

If you don't have highway pegs, get some. they are a must have for long distance riding. You will be able to stretch your legs and sit in different positions on your bike which helps with long distance comfort. not to mention that your feet and legs will be cooler out in the wind and not tucked in behind the hot engine.
And as others have mentioned, a good seat and stopping to take breaks goes a long way.

| The best way is to get used to it by riding more long distance and while doing it don't sit flat on your butt the whole time. Probably rather difficult to move much on a goldwing, but the way I used to do it was ride for a while on the butt, then a little while kind of hanging off to one side, a little while hanging off the other side, hang my legs down for a while, rest the legs on the passenger pegs for a while, then extended forward on the case guards, then stand a little taking tension off the rear. Anything to move around a bit. To me sheepskin doesn't make sense because it's too slippery, but to each his own. This always worked for me. 1135 miles in one day on a Yamaha FZ750 which isn't the most comfy bike and 10,800 in 13 days on a Kaw KZ1000. I had loads of fun, but have no desire to even ride 100 miles a day anymore. My neck was my weak point, took years to build the neck up to ride these long rides.

Riding is a good way to build up your butt.
I got a 1200 this spring with a Corbin seat. I hated it for a long time. I kept reading about how good they are and that it takes a few hundred miles to break it in. I think it is more appropriate to say that it takes a while to break in your butt. I had to ride over 5,000 miles to get used to it. Now I like it and am able to ride 400-500 miles easy.
I did get a sheepskin on one of my weekend trips and I'll have to admit that is a good addition. I don't use it all the time, but it is nice when you need just a little more.
I now have over 11,000 miles this year and have many miles to go before the season is over.

First of all you have to build up to the long rides. Then I have a small feather pillow that Nancy made us that is long and skinny, you can sit on it one way and then rotate it the other direction to give your aching butt some relief.
I have also bought bicycle shorts to try too. They have been okay on some of my short rides around home, but I haven't tried them yet on a sure enough long ride.
Biggest thing is ride alot.
If you don't walk much, your feet are going to start hurting when you try to walk a couple miles.
