We're planning a road trip to  our west coast this summer, but plan to come back through the states. We're thinking on heading east on #2 from Everett to Spokane Wa. then on to Yellowaston.Good road or should I go down to Seattle and get on I-90. I would imagine there should be lots places on#2 for fuel, but we've found over the years that to see the country, get off the major highways

Route 2 is a great back road and it keeps you off the super slab. Suggestion #1: Don't forget to get off and do the Going to the Sun Highway at Glacier National Park - we have been there several times. Sometimes the GttS highway is closed due to construction and repairs from the winter damage. You will not regret the trip. Suggestion #2: When you can - get down on US 12 into Idaho and do the 77 miles of curves along the Clearwater Canyon! It is awesome and beautiful. These are my suggestions and ride safe!

The I90 is quite boring except for the pass   Better road is through Stephens pass

back roads are great in the States  ( way better shape than our "trans Canada HYW"  Although the new bridge through Kicking horse is quite spectacular

Hey send me your email  I'll give you some good info   Etc!!!

Lots of great roads to take across the Cascades without resorting to super slabbing on I90.  :(

How many days for traveling, once you leave Everett, to get back home??  I have lots of suggestions to keep you off the Interstates. ;)

Yeah, stay off I-90!   Every transplanted, frustrated Californian in the world is ripping up I-90!   Bad for bikes......

From Everett, take Highway 2 and follow it over Stevens Pass, all the way to Spokane......

Or better yet!   Take Highway 5 north to it's junction with Highway 20,  the North Cascades Scenic Highway, take it across the mountains to Kettle Falls, then take 395 to Spokane....

Or even better yet!   from Kettle Falls take Highway 25 alongside Lake Roosevelt to  to Miles, then swing west to Grand Coulee dam, from there drop back down on 2 and go to Spokane....

Had to edit this!  Was going the wrong way!

I'l be riding up to Couer D' Alene in June.
Up through the Rockies, Tetons, Sawtooths and Back down through Lewiston, Enterprise, Northern Nevada, with a stop at the salt flats in Utah.

If you haven't been to Glacier Nat. Park and rode the Going to The Sun Road, I highly recommend it!
There are 2 great routes from Everett to there.

The Southerly route to West Glacier, via Hwy 2 and the Coulee Corridor -  http://tinyurl.com/dzrcdn
or the Northern route to West Glacier, via the Cascades Hwy  - http://tinyurl.com/cs5w4p

Although the Going to The Sun Highway isn't closed due to construction, there will probably be short delays, but what beautiful scenery to gaze upon while waiting

From Glacier, I would circle back along the Southern perimeter of the park and head on down to Yellowstone and do a loop through the park and then hit Cody WY. http://tinyurl.com/cxuo9v

From There, head on up to Red Lodge MT, via the Chief Joseph and Beartooth Pass scenic highways and either back the same way, or an alternate route - http://tinyurl.com/dj5fmx
Then head east along 14 and a fairly short jaunt N on I 90 to US 212 and follow that over to Spearfish Canyon/Lead SD and spend a day or 2 exploring the Black Hills/Custer State Park/ Badlands Nat Park region of South Dakota  - http://tinyurl.com/d886bs

Don't forget to stop in to Wall Drugs  while in the Badlands/Rapid City area. Worth the visit!

Then head for home. -  http://tinyurl.com/d9xvd8

Have fun  - Dusty

I second Hwy 12 in Idaho. It is amazing. One of the most beautiful roads in the States IMHO.

This makes me sick. I shouldn't have looked. Now I gotta know and go. Exactly where is this stretch of #12? Where can I find Clearwater Canyon?

US 12 is right out of Missoula Montana - US 12 aka the Lolo Pass - aka Clearwater Canyon - road is 77 miles of curves going west to Kooskia, Idaho.

We continued and took it all the way to Lewiston and then to Walla Walla and past Yakima all the way to Aberdeen along the Pacific coast.

Happy sailor, are you planning to hotel/motel your way across the West or rough it and camp? I did the #2 right across the prairies and over the Road to the Sun in September and camped. If you plan on camping it is still cheaper to go thru the States both ways because you save a bundle on gas. And the roads/scenery just don't compare across the prairies. Canada's main roads (#1 & 16) are just too straight & flat to enjoy and the secondary roads have too many potholes just waiting to jump out and bite you.

Having said that, we're heading up the Yellowhead in June to visit relatives in Burns Lake and then hoping to go thru to Prince Rupert, take the ferry to Vancouver Island and then the ferry to Washington and across the U.S. home. And you can bet I'll find a way to ride the #12 in Idaho. Yahooooooo!:action:

wpgfire...We're going to motel it. Gotta go to Calgary to see the grandkids, then off to Victoria to do the same. Planning on catching the ferry from Sydney BC to Anacortes Wa, then pick up #2 at Everett Wa. , then work our way down to #12, to Yellowstone, and back across Montana to home.We bought a 91 1500 last year, so should be a fairly comfortable ride I think.....
